My Top Convenience Store Eats & Recommendations

Guess what? I'm back with more convenience store finds from this trip!

If I write this down, I'll even use my own posts for reference later on!

Japan is one of those places where, every time I visit,

I find myself popping into a convenience store 2-3 times a day!

That's why I always make sure to meticulously document my Japan adventures.

And this time, as I explored Tokyo on my independent adventure,

I'll be sharing all the yummy things I munched on from the convenience stores.

Some of these are already quite famous,

while others are new obsessions from this particular trip.

So, take a look and have fun~!

My Tokyo Convenience Store Haul

First on the list is something for... *ahem* 'bathroom necessities' ☺️

Japanese food is incredibly delicious,

but with all the sushi, kaisendon, yakitori, okonomiyaki, and so much more,

you don't always get enough raw veggies or dietary fiber.

This can sometimes lead to... *ahem* 'bathroom issues' during your trip.

Among the R-1 branded items you'll find at convenience stores,

THIS specific yogurt!

This stuff is an absolute game-changer, I swear by it! (Based on personal experience 😉)

Next up: convenience store dango.

I feel like I grab these every single trip,

and honestly, the original flavor is still the best.

While dango specialty shops offer that incredibly soft, mochi-like texture,

convenience store dango is a different experience entirely!

In fact, for a first-timer, you might even prefer this version!

It strikes the perfect balance of chewy and sweet.

It's the ideal treat for a quick sugar boost when you're out exploring.

This one's quite famous, isn't it?

If you're tackling Tokyo on an independent adventure, clocking in 20,000 or even 30,000 steps a day,

then this essential energy booster, Mukumi, is a must-have.

I grabbed a bottle of this after breakfast every morning and started the day,

and whether it was thanks to this or not, I was able to make it through my Tokyo independent adventure, walking over 20,000 steps daily right up until the very end.

Now, let's talk snacks!

This trip, I completely fell in love with convenience store sweet potato snacks.

I bought and tried sweet potato snacks from practically every convenience store I visited!

Among the stick-shaped ones, this was by far the tastiest:

Calbee Baked Sweet Potato Sticks.

And for the flat-style snacks, THIS one is absolutely divine!

It has just a hint of saltiness,

paired with the sweetness of a salted butter sweet potato snack.

I really wanted to stock up on more of these before I left,

but it turns out many convenience stores didn't have them in stock anymore.

So, if you spot it, grab it!

This is a Seven-Eleven product I've introduced before,

Sugar Butter Tree, which you can even find at duty-free shops!

At Seven-Eleven, you can find these in small packs of three, which makes them absolutely perfect for a little souvenir or gift!

There are two flavors available, but the original is definitely superior! Pair it with coffee, and you'll be in pure bliss.

This one's a skip for me!

I tried this pretty-looking cherry blossom edition snack, but the red bean paste filling just wasn't hitting the mark.

Let's keep the carb train rolling and move on to some delightful breads!

The Japanese convenience store strawberry sando?

Quite delicious, actually!

Melon pan and custard taiyaki!

The melon pan is especially tasty if you give it a quick warm-up in the oven.

If your accommodation happens to have a Balmuda toaster,

definitely grab one and toast it to perfection!

After wrapping up a day of exploring Tokyo,

here's what I munched on for my late-night snack haul!

A 9% lemon-flavored beer,

enjoyed alongside a Strong Zero!

You know that perfect ramen egg?

It's that familiar, incredibly delicious taste you always crave!

I also picked up some yakitori skewers and fried treats.

The chicken thigh yakitori was definitely the highlight,

the plain grilled ones were just okay.

Tonkatsu bento and hamburg steak bento.

I grabbed these because they were on sale, and they tasted exactly as you'd expect.

If these were from a Korean convenience store, I'd rave about their high quality,

but with so many incredible options in Japanese convenience stores,

I wouldn't call them an absolute must-eat.

Now THIS is a seriously delicious recommendation!

Natto Maki!

I ate these so frequently that I often forgot to snap photos at the convenience store,

but the egg sandwich and salad are staples!

As I mentioned earlier, when you're diving deep into Japan's amazing food scene,

vegetables tend to be scarce. So, I make sure to get my greens in – even if it's just with a late-night snack.

And seriously, that egg sandwich? Always a winner, any time of day!

And finally, something you won't be eating, but definitely a must-have convenience store recommendation:

Family Mart socks!

They're fantastic for running, and the soles are so wonderfully thick – the quality is genuinely impressive!
