Kayuya Sato Asakusa Review 2026: Comforting Congee in Tokyo
Craving a comforting breakfast in Tokyo? Discover Kayuya Sato in Asakusa, a Taiwanese-style congee specialist. Ideal for solo diners and a gentle start before exploring Senso-ji Temple.

Today, I'm thrilled to introduce you to a fantastic Tokyo eatery that’s perfect for soothing an overindulged stomach after a little too much vacation feasting.
Say hello to Kayuya Sato!
1. Kayuya Sato in Asakusa
📍 Kayuya Sato (粥や 佐藤)
📍 Hours: 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM (Closed Mondays & Tuesdays)
Kayuya Sato is a delightful restaurant in the heart of Tokyo where you can savor Taiwanese-style congee. While the dishes are Taiwanese, the interior boasts a charming Japanese aesthetic, creating a unique fusion of cultures.
Despite its Taiwanese roots, the shop's interior exudes a distinct Japanese charm.

Located in Asakusa, it’s the perfect spot to grab a warm bowl of congee for breakfast before exploring the iconic Senso-ji Temple.
The restaurant is quite small, with only counter seating, making it an excellent choice for solo travelers or those looking for a quiet meal.
2. Kayuya Sato's Menu

First, you'll need to decide which set to choose. There are two options: Set A and Set B.
Set A includes congee + two side dishes.
Set B includes congee + two side dishes + Xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) + Annin Tofu (almond jelly).
Next, it’s time to pick your congee! They offer five delicious varieties:
Shiitake Mushroom Pork Congee, Japanese Dashi Congee, Century Egg Congee (Pidan), Lu Rou Congee, and Chicken Lemon Congee.
We opted for the Pidan Congee and the Lu Rou Congee.
3. Century Egg (Pidan) Congee

Here it is: the Pidan Congee, featuring century eggs!
Century eggs, with their distinctive dark appearance, can be a bit polarizing for some. I admit, I was hesitant at first, but my curiosity won out.
The congee itself isn't a watery gruel; instead, it's wonderfully soft and creamy while still retaining a pleasant texture from the rice grains.
The century egg has a unique jelly-like texture, and its yolk is incredibly smooth and savory, pairing perfectly with the congee. It was a new flavor experience for me, and I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was!
4. Lu Rou Congee

Next up is the Lu Rou Congee.
This comforting bowl features tender, braised pork. The aroma of savory-sweet soy sauce is absolutely irresistible.
The congee itself is mild, but with a generous topping of the flavorful braised pork, the rich, savory sauce blends in perfectly, creating a balanced and delicious bite.
It reminded me a bit of a comforting American pot roast, making it a dish I think even picky eaters would enjoy.

5. Xiaolongbao

Since we ordered Set B, we also got to enjoy some delicious Xiaolongbao.
These soup dumplings were incredibly juicy and flavorful!
Even though they contain pork, they tasted surprisingly light and well-balanced.
If you're a fan of dumplings, I highly recommend opting for Set B to get a taste of these fantastic Xiaolongbao! ♥️
Kayuya Sato is a staple on my Tokyo restaurant list.
It offers both comfort and incredible flavor, so if you're looking for a satisfying and easy-on-the-stomach breakfast during your Tokyo trip, I can't recommend it enough.
I'll be back soon with more exciting Tokyo food recommendations.
Happy travels! ♥️
