Hey everyone, it's Bamkki!
For my recent trip to Taiwan, I opted for a round-trip route connecting Seoul's Gimpo Airport and Kaohsiung International Airport.
Honestly, with Incheon Airport constantly packed to the brim these days, flying out of the much quieter and less crowded Gimpo Airport was an absolute dream!
For the outbound leg, I flew Jeju Air (check out my full Jeju Air review), but for the return flight, I booked Tigerair Taiwan—a prominent Taiwanese budget airline. Here is my honest review of the experience, plus an exclusive Trip.com promo code at the end of this post to help you save on your next flight! 🥰
📍 Kaohsiung International Airport
No. 2, Jhongshan 4th Rd, Siaogang District, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan 812
Getting to the airport from downtown Kaohsiung is incredibly easy.
It only takes about 20 minutes from Formosa Boulevard Station via the MRT.

Even though it was a Sunday, the airport wasn't overly chaotic, and the Tigerair check-in counter had a very manageable queue.

A word of warning: Tigerair is extremely strict with carry-on baggage. They will weigh every single bag and attach a tag to it.
Tigerair Taiwan
Carry-on Baggage Allowance
Up to 2 personal items/cabin bags combined
Maximum weight: 10 kg (approx. 22 lbs)
Dimensions must not exceed: 54 x 38 x 23 cm (approx. 21 x 15 x 9 inches)
*The combined weight of both items must be under 22 lbs!
Many domestic carriers are quite lenient when you depart from your home country, but international budget airlines will not hesitate to enforce their limits. Make sure you weigh your luggage beforehand!

Now, about my major slip-up... I had to add checked baggage at the last minute!
The day before my flight, I logged on to check if mobile check-in was available, only to realize I had booked a ticket that did not include checked baggage.
Don't make the same mistake I did just to save a few bucks! There's always a reason a ticket is dirt cheap. 😂
Thankfully, I caught it early and added baggage online for ~$29 instead of paying the hefty gate fees.

But the LCC experience didn't stop there. Tigerair is a true ultra-low-cost carrier. I was genuinely taken aback when they handed me a boarding pass printed on thin receipt paper!

Even the baggage claim tag was hand-written! I had a brief moment of panic wondering if my luggage and I would actually make it back to Seoul in one piece! 😂

After passing security, I admired the beautiful stained-glass windows in the terminal and picked up some local Yushan Kaoliang liquor at the duty-free shop before boarding.

The aircraft definitely showed its age, but for a short-haul flight under three hours, I didn't mind too much.

The cabin configuration is quite tight. I'm 5'1" (156 cm) and relatively petite, and even for me, the legroom felt pretty snug. If you're a taller traveler, you're definitely going to find these seats cramped.

Welcome back to Seoul! This was actually my first time landing at Gimpo Airport since flying JAL back in 2011. It was incredibly quick and convenient.

Departing in late 2025 and returning in early 2026—my New Year holiday getaway was an absolute success! ✌️
