When you think of markets in Bangkok, Chatuchak is often the first to come to mind, and for night markets, Jodd Fairs Night Market is incredibly popular. While these are fantastic, their popularity often means navigating through massive crowds.
Today, I want to introduce you to a more relaxed alternative: The One Ratchada Night Market.
My first impression? "Peaceful." Perhaps it's the lower foot traffic, but the entire market felt remarkably clean and well-organized.
I vaguely recall visiting this spot before, and Google Maps confirms it. However, the current layout felt unfamiliar, leading me to believe it might have undergone a renovation or even a temporary closure and reopening. This would certainly explain its fresh, tidy appearance.
Back then, before I started blogging, I didn't take many photos or fully immerse myself, so my memory is a bit hazy! It's interesting how places evolve.
And truly, there weren't many visitors. Compared to the bustling crowds at Jodd Fairs, The One Ratchada felt almost deserted.
Even as I ventured deeper into the market from the entrance,
the overall atmosphere remained calm and unhurried. If you're not a fan of crowds, this Bangkok night market could be an excellent choice. But if you thrive on the hustle and bustle, Jodd Fairs is still your go-to.
From Leng Saap (spicy pork rib soup) to durian, various street foods, and a wide array of accessories, everything you'd expect from a night market was available. (Just, you know, fewer people to share it with...)
Since I had already indulged in Leng Saap and done some shopping at Jodd Fairs earlier, I didn't make any additional purchases here.
Even the designated photo spots were practically empty, making it ideal for snapping pictures without battling crowds.
However, it wasn't completely deserted. There was a lively alley lined with pubs, and that's where most of the visitors were gathered.
During my visit, it was Songkran, and a lively water fight was in full swing!
If you're heading to Thailand for Songkran for the very first time, Khao San Road is undeniably the classic choice. However, if you've experienced it before and are looking for an alternative vibe (you'll understand why after you've been!), I'd definitely consider The One Ratchada as a potential option.

The restrooms are located next to the Ferris wheel, which you can spot in the photo zone pictures. You'll need to pay a small fee (~$1, or a few Thai Baht) to enter, as the door operates with a coin slot.
Whether The One Ratchada Night Market can overcome its current quietness and truly thrive remains to be seen. After all, a market often needs a certain level of buzz to feel truly alive – that chaotic, vibrant energy is part of its charm! However, for those seeking a less crowded experience, it certainly has its appeal.
