Hey there, fellow travelers!
As a huge fan of saunas and all things relaxation, I recently dove into the world of "Hyo-so Jjimjil," or enzyme bathing, which is a super hot wellness trend right now.
And let me cut straight to the chase...
The moment my session ended, I was so utterly enchanted that I instinctively signed up for a 10-session package!
If you, like me, often suffer from cold hands and feet or just generally feel chilly, this post is a must-read for you!‼️

Since I couldn't find any enzyme bath spots in Chuncheon, I went on a frantic search and stumbled upon Ter-en in Gapyeong!
What's really special is that Ter-en's Gapyeong location is the main branch, and the owner actually supplies the special enzymes and other essential ingredients to their other locations. Talk about expertise!🤩

Honestly, it was my first time trying an enzyme bath, and I was a little worried about going alone. Would it be awkward?!
But the owner was incredibly welcoming and friendly, and the facility itself is designed for private, individual sessions. So, going solo felt completely comfortable and stress-free!

Let's be real, many places claim to be private but don't quite deliver, right? I'd even read reviews that some Seoul branches, due to their popularity, were fully booked and it was tough to get a quiet, undisturbed session. But Ter-en Gapyeong Main Branch was truly the real deal!

The owner shared that during a reserved time slot, they strictly ensure no other customers are accommodated!
That's why I had this entire spacious area all to myself! Haha.

You'll change into your spa wear in the dressing room. And let me tell you, the jjimjil-bok (spa attire) was surprisingly stylish and cute! I loved it so much I kept taking photos to send to my fiancé, haha. After changing, you sit for a moment to enjoy a warm herbal tea before heading into the enzyme bath.
What Exactly IS an Enzyme Bath?
As a sauna enthusiast, I initially sought out enzyme bathing for the warmth, but then I became super curious about what 'enzymes' actually are! For anyone else with similar questions, I've compiled what I learned from my research and what the owner explained.

An enzyme bath utilizes 'fermentation heat' ❤️🔥, which is naturally generated by microorganisms as they consume and break down rice bran. Unlike traditional saunas that rely on artificial electricity or boilers for heating, this is pure, natural heat produced by the vigorous activity of these microorganisms. This fermentation heat can reach impressive temperatures of up to 140-158 degrees Fahrenheit!
How is an Enzyme Bath Different from a Regular Sauna?

🌿 Deep Detox: A Refreshing Cleanse from Within:
Because enzymes generate pure, natural fermentation heat, it doesn't just warm the surface of your skin. Its long-wave heat penetrates deep into your core body temperature, allowing stubborn waste and toxins to be thoroughly flushed out with your sweat! You'll definitely notice this sweat feels different from what you usually experience.
🥚 Silky Smooth Skin: Like a Peeled Egg:
Rice bran is incredibly rich in vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. During the bath, it acts as a natural exfoliant, leaving your skin feeling incredibly soft and smooth after showering, with a noticeably brighter complexion! Haha.
🔥 Fatigue Relief & Improved Circulation:
The warm, natural heat envelops your entire body, melting away tense, knotted muscles. As your core body temperature rises, blood circulation gets a significant boost, which is excellent for alleviating cold hands and feet and reducing swelling. I personally felt incredibly refreshed, as if all my accumulated fatigue had simply floated away.

The owner preparing my cozy spot... haha! She was so thoughtful, carefully adjusting the rice bran to my height, ensuring my lower back and neck weren't strained (so kind, truly!).

And when I asked her to take some photos for me, she enthusiastically snapped away, capturing some great shots! Thank you! 🤭

An enzyme bath typically lasts for 10-15 minutes, but first-timers often find it much hotter than they anticipate, with some struggling after just 5 minutes!
Since my body tends to run quite cold, I actually felt 'warm and cozy' right from the start. The owner even commented that while most people find it hot, my perception of it as merely warm meant my body must truly be quite chilly. Aww, poor me! ㅠㅠ
Even though it was my first time, I stayed in for almost the full 15 minutes. It felt a lot like getting a sand bath on a beach!

The owner advised that it's best to rinse off with just water after the enzyme bath! Oh my goodness, after showering, I felt utterly refreshed! All my body aches and stiffness just melted away ㅠㅠ

After my session, I decided it was crucial to focus on improving my body's circulation before I even thought about weight loss. So, I just went for it, no hesitation! Haha. I immediately bought a 10-session package! 🤍

I haven't been able to go back since my first session, but for about two days afterward, my hands and feet felt noticeably warmer, and I felt like my core body temperature had genuinely risen, which was fascinating, hehe.
Since enzyme baths are even more beneficial with consistent sessions, I'll be sure to come back and share an update after I've completed a few more sessions!
Thanks for sticking with me to the end today! 🥰
