Tenkai is incredibly easy to access, located just a 2-minute walk from both Ueno Station and Keisei Ueno Station.

Its proximity to the subway stations makes it a super convenient spot! Just take the elevator up to the 2nd floor.

Interior Atmosphere

We made a reservation in advance and were delighted to be seated in a private room. It comfortably fit four people and felt incredibly spacious and comfortable.

For solo travelers or couples, there are also cozy counter seats available, making it a great spot for a relaxed drink alone.

All the sauces and tableware you need are conveniently prepared at your table.

Unlike some loud izakayas, Tenkai offered a quiet and intimate setting, perfect for easy conversation and a truly enjoyable dining experience.

Menu

The menu at Tenkai boasts a wide array of izakaya staples, from fresh sushi and crispy tempura to succulent skewers and delicate sashimi. You'll find pretty much everything you'd expect from a top-notch izakaya here!

Ordering is a breeze with the tablet conveniently located at each table.

Food Review

First to arrive were the refreshing draft beer and a warm, comforting hand towel! I always appreciate how Japanese restaurants offer these thoughtful touches.

For those who love to enjoy a few drinks, Tenkai also offers an all-you-can-drink course, which is definitely worth considering!

Next up were our orders: a delightful assortment of 5-piece tempura and a skewer platter.

The tempura included shrimp, fish, mushrooms, and sweet potato. The batter was thin and light, so it didn't feel heavy at all.

Despite the thin batter, each piece was incredibly crispy, never soggy, and absolutely delicious! ❤️

You absolutely *must* try the shrimp tempura – it was hands down the best of the bunch!

The skewers featured juicy chicken hearts, tender chicken, and earthy mushrooms. They were glistening with flavor, incredibly moist, and packed with savory juices.

They were the perfect accompaniment to our beers!

And here's the star of the show: the 7-piece sashimi platter. Doesn't it look incredibly fresh just from the photo?

It included a wonderful variety like tuna, shrimp, and salmon. Each piece was impeccably fresh, with no hint of fishiness, and served over ice to keep it perfectly chilled and delicious until the very last bite.

Every dish we ordered paired wonderfully with our drinks, creating a truly satisfying experience.
