A hot spot in Tokyo even Jennie visited,
teamLab Borderless! I finally visited too!
When you search for 'teamLab Tokyo,' both Borderless and Planets
come up, and I wondered, 'What's the difference?'
To cut to the chase, if you enjoy taking your shoes off
and experiencing art with your whole body, then Planets is for you.
If you prefer taking photos and freely exploring
the exhibition, I recommend Borderless!

Both are teamLab media art exhibitions,
but their viewing styles are quite different.

At teamLab Planets, you get a strong sense of experiencing the artworks with your body,
for instance, by walking directly into water installations.
In some areas, you'll need to remove your shoes and socks
and enter barefoot, and towels are provided.
Borderless, on the other hand, lives up to its name:
there are no boundaries between the artworks.
You can wander without a map, enter and exit rooms as you please,
and even revisit rooms you've already seen.
It's more like an exhibition perfect for capturing those 'life-shot' photos, wouldn't you say?
So, if you're on a family trip with kids,
or if taking off your shoes feels bothersome,
I'd lean towards recommending Borderless a bit more!

I booked my tickets in advance through Klook.
It was cheaper than buying on-site
and super convenient to enter directly with a QR code.
teamLab tickets are booked not only by date,
but also by specific time slots.
Popular time slots can sell out quickly, so
if you're planning a weekend visit, I recommend checking for your preferred time slot at least 3-4 weeks in advance.

Flexible entry tickets (Flexible or Premium Pass),
which allow entry at any time slot,
are definitely convenient. However, the price difference can be significant, so
if your travel itinerary is somewhat set,
a time-specific ticket is much more reasonable.
When I went on a weekday at 2 PM,
it wasn't as crowded as I expected!

3. TeamLab Borderless Review
It was definitely different from what I saw in pictures.
Especially since the artworks aren't static but
constantly moving and changing, so
even if it's the same space, the atmosphere changes if you go back in a little while later.
The Light Sculpture space, where red light poured in from all directions,
was truly overwhelming.
It felt less like I was simply viewing an exhibition and more like
I had, at some point, stepped right into the middle of the artwork?
What I loved most about Borderless was that
there's no set viewing order;
you can just follow the beautiful light and wander around.
Borderless also has interactive experiential spaces where you can participate directly!
If you draw a picture and scan it,
your drawing comes alive, hehehe.
It was a space kids particularly loved,
but I secretly put my heart into coloring too, teehee!

You can also check the names and descriptions of the artworks
you're viewing through the app, which made it much more
engaging than just taking pictures and passing by.
The total viewing time took
about 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours.
The exhibition space is quite vast,
so you end up walking more than you might expect,
but there are also places to sit and rest, and restrooms scattered throughout.
Definitely wear comfortable shoes when you go!
And since there are many mirror-covered floors,
those wearing skirts should be careful!!!
Just wear pants, trust me..
