The moment I landed in Takamatsu, I dropped my bags,

and headed straight for an udon adventure!

Even though I'm a blogger myself,

I'm not much of a planner, and I actually prefer *not* to research things too much,

loving a good surprise trip! 😅

So, I just blindly searched Google Maps for a decent udon spot near my hotel.

And the delicious shock was absolutely indescribable...!

01 A Truly Traditional Spot

Just head straight down from the Takamatsu Park Hotel where we stayed,

and you'll spot Udon Market Menkui!

It's one of those places that's so unassuming,

you might even walk right past it without realizing it's an udon shop...!

Apparently, a bowl of udon used to be just 100 yen back in the day!

Wow...😅

And just so you know upfront,

Takamatsu udon prices are still incredibly reasonable,

hovering around 500 yen (for a small size).

A quick check on Google Maps revealed that

they're only open from morning until 2 PM,

so you can really only grab lunch there.

(Weekdays extend to 3 PM!)

You can totally tell it has that charming, long-standing traditional vibe, right?

02 Udon Market Menkui: The Menu

Since Udon Market Menkui isn't located in a bustling downtown area,

they didn't have a Korean menu.

But no worries! We just had to deduce from the pictures and available English translations ^*^

We visited a little after 1 PM on a weekend,

and even then, locals were steadily stopping by

to enjoy their udon.

It was my very first udon experience in Takamatsu,

and I totally fumbled a bit before just mimicking what the locals did! >.<

It looked like there'd already been a major rush,

because there weren't many fried goodies left! 🥲

But I managed to snag the one remaining onigiri!

The rice ball wasn't particularly seasoned, so it was just so-so.

03 Recommended Menu

We both ordered **meat udon**.

None of that "let's order one each and share" stuff here, lol...

You just gotta eat what you want! 🤣

Instead, my boyfriend ordered the Medium size,

and I ordered the Small.

Since I eat a bit less (..)

generally, we recommend **Medium for women**,

and **Large for men**, but...

Takamatsu is actually the city of udon...

If you want to eat four meals a day,

some people order **Small sizes multiple times**, so keep that in mind, haha!

04 Takamatsu Really Is the City of Udon

Honestly, before trying the udon,

I thought, Udon is udon,

how good could it really be?

But wow... Takamatsu udon

is definitely different, it really is...

The noodles are *totally* different! 😳

Seriously, I just stumbled into a neighborhood udon shop,

and it's *this* good?

Then how much more amazing must the

famous, popular spots be?! 🫪

And seriously, after that, I visited a few more places,

and Takamatsu udon almost always exceeded expectations no matter where I went ㅠㅠ.

I can't eat udon in Korea anymore~~

Oh, and Udon Market Menkui

only accepts **cash**! ❗

'Ah, right, this is Japan...'

We didn't have cash, so we went

"Sumimasen,, ittekimasu!!!" (Excuse us, we'll be right back!)

and rushed to a nearby convenience store

to withdraw cash, then came back 😅.

Q. Is Udon Ichiba Menkui delicious?

It was the first udon I tried in Takamatsu,

and it was shockingly delicious!

While I can't objectively say it's the absolute best,

during my 4-day, 3-night trip to Takamatsu,

it definitely offered the most memorable first bite.

Q. Does Udon Ichiba Menkui accept card payments?

As a small, old establishment, they don't accept cards

and only cash payments are possible.

Q. What time does Udon Ichiba Menkui open?

They open at 11 AM

and operate only until 3 PM

— it's a charming little udon hotspot.

Since they close at 2 PM on weekends,
