Hello everyone!
It's Susukkotdari, sharing my travel stories.
My friends and I went on a spring trip in 2026
to Takamatsu!
It was a 5-day, 4-night adventure.
We stayed at an Airbnb for three nights, and for one night
we indulged in a top-tier ryokan experience.
We also made a trip to Naoshima.
You might be wondering how much it cost to enjoy our
5-day, 4-night Takamatsu adventure.
Well, you're in luck! For those of you planning your own Takamatsu trip,
I'll detail all the expenses right here.
📍 Travel Period: April 18th~22nd
Companions: 4 people

Takamatsu Flights

We planned our Takamatsu trip in February,
and booked our flights right away on Trip.com.
Later, with the war-related issues,
fuel surcharges significantly increased, so I was really glad
we booked early! 😊
✅️ February Flight Price: ~$207
Transportation Costs

We pooled our money for transportation, food, and other expenses,
so I don't remember all the exact details.
I wasn't the treasurer, after all! 😉
However, I do remember the transportation costs,
so I'll lay them out for you.
Takamatsu isn't a huge city, so honestly,
we walked almost everywhere!
Airport Limousine Bus
✔️ Airport --> Hyogomachi: ~$6
✔️ JR Kotohira Station --> Airport: ~$12
✔️Naoshima Ferry (Round Trip): ~$8
✔️Naoshima 100-yen Bus (3 rides): ~$2
✔️Train: Kataharamachi Station --> Kotohira Station
~$5
✔️ Bus: Yume Shopping --> Kawaramachi Station: ~$1
Transportation Costs: Total ~$35
Accommodation

For our accommodation, we chose an Airbnb
and a ryokan that could comfortably host all four of us.
✔️ Airbnb (3 nights): ~$406
Per person: ~$102
✔️ Kotohira Kadan Ryokan (1 night): ~$621
(Includes dinner and breakfast)
Per person: ~$155
Accommodation Costs: Total (per person) ~$257
Admission Fees

We paid admission fees at two places:
The Chichu Art Museum on Naoshima
and Ritsurin Garden in Takamatsu.
Don't forget, you absolutely must book your Chichu Art Museum tickets
in advance!
✔️ Chichu Art Museum: ~$17 (Sunday price)
✔️ Ritsurin Garden: ~$3
Admission Fees: Total ~$20

Shopping & Personal Expenses

I did a lot of shopping, but I didn't buy much at Don Quijote or
drugstores. The biggest purchase was a pair of Adidas sneakers
at Yume Town, which cost 15,000 yen.
Strawberry milk-colored Adidas shoes are hard to find, so I bought them,
and I think I saved about ~$7.
And I bought some clothes too~~
Plus several udon kits!
Shopping & Personal Expenses: Total 26,825 yen
Miscellaneous

The largest portion of miscellaneous expenses was for
food and snacks.
We had absolutely delicious meals, going on a culinary tour of famous eateries,
trying Honezukidori, gyoza, yakiniku,
various kinds of udon, and more.
Except for Naoshima, prices felt similar to or
slightly cheaper than in Korea.
Food & Snack Expenses: Total 19,235 yen
Takamatsu Trip Total Expenses
Here are the amounts, converted to USD.
<Takamatsu 5-Day, 4-Night Travel Expenses>
Category | Amount (USD) | Notes |
Airline ticket | ~$207 | |
Transportation | ~$38 | Ferry, airport limousine |
Accommodation | ~$278 | |
Admission fees | ~$22 | Chichu Art Museum, etc. |
Food & shared expenses | ~$130 | Food, snacks, etc. |
Shopping & personal expenses | ~$182 | Includes airport lunch |
Travel insurance | ~$11 | |
Total | ~$868 |
One cost not included here is for an eSIM.
I received a sponsored eSIM from USIMSA,
so I didn't incur any costs.
If you add a generous ~$7 to my calculated costs,
that should cover the eSIM expense.

Considering we even stayed at a premium ryokan that the Emperor once visited,
I really think this trip offered incredible value for money!
The room we stayed in at Kotohirakadan originally costs about ~$146 more than this price,
but luckily there was a ~$146 discount event, so we got to enjoy it at a truly affordable rate.
