✈️ Takamatsu: A Japanese Gem I Never Knew Existed!
Having explored bustling Japanese cities like Tokyo and Nagoya, I was completely blown away by my first visit to Takamatsu. It was a revelation!

It's not overrun with tourists, yet it's incredibly peaceful with so much to discover. It's the kind of city where you naturally slow down and just soak it all in. Our 3 nights and 4 days flew by, leaving us wishing for more.

🌤️ Takamatsu Weather - Check Before You Go!
Takamatsu, nestled along the Seto Inland Sea, generally enjoys mild weather. Summers can be hot and humid, while spring and autumn are ideal for visiting. We went in March, and the weather was pleasantly cool and refreshing.

Especially if you're planning to visit outdoor art installations like those on Naoshima Island, choosing a sunny day will significantly enhance your experience. We always recommend packing an umbrella, just in case!
🏨 Accommodation - KOKO Hotel: The Location is Everything!
We chose KOKO Hotel for our stay, and its central location was an absolute game-changer. Getting anywhere was incredibly convenient – the port was close, and the main shopping arcade was just a short walk away.

Being able to check in, drop our bags, and immediately head out was a huge plus. The rooms were spotless and well-maintained, offering just what we needed without any unnecessary frills. It was truly the perfect basecamp for our adventures.

🏝️ Naoshima Island - The Art Island: Seeing it in Person is a Whole Different Experience

Without a doubt, Naoshima Island is the highlight of any Takamatsu trip.
You catch a ferry from Takamatsu Port, and as the island draws closer, the anticipation builds.
And then, you see the Yellow Pumpkin in person – it's absolutely incredible! I'd seen countless photos, but standing there with the sea as its backdrop, it felt completely different. I couldn't stop snapping pictures.

The Red Pumpkin is also located further inland, and it offers a distinct vibe from its yellow counterpart, so make sure to see both!
The Chichu Art Museum is a work of art in itself. Built mostly underground, the way it uses natural light to illuminate the exhibition spaces is truly breathtaking. It's a sensory experience that's hard to put into words.
I also highly recommend the Lee Ufan Museum. With its focus on 'emptiness' and 'space,' it has a calming effect, even if you're not deeply familiar with contemporary art.

The moment you step inside, your eyes will be darting everywhere! They even have exclusive Kagawa-limited merchandise, so there are quite a few items you can only buy here. I wanted to buy absolutely everything! 😂
It's a fantastic spot for adults to enjoy, and an absolute must-visit if you're traveling with kids.

🌿 Ritsurin Garden - One of Japan's Top 3: The Scale is Breathtaking!

Ritsurin Garden is celebrated as one of Japan's Top 3 gardens. I expected it to be beautiful, but stepping inside revealed a scale that was truly astounding.
Hundreds of years old pine trees stand majestically, and serene ponds are scattered throughout. Time just slips away as you leisurely stroll and capture photos.
It's the perfect place to clear your head with a quiet walk. Going early in the morning means fewer crowds and fresher air, making the experience even more delightful!
♨️ Busshozan Onsen - All My Travel Fatigue Melted Away!

After a day of extensive walking, we made our way to Busshozan Onsen. The moment the hot spring water touched my skin, all the fatigue in my legs just melted away.
It was so incredibly relaxing that I didn't want to leave! It's easily accessible from Takamatsu city center, and the price is quite reasonable. I highly recommend incorporating a visit into your itinerary. You won't regret it!

The Seto Inland Sea stretches out before you, and a refreshing breeze blows in. The quiet, uncrowded atmosphere of the port was surprisingly captivating.
