Once you start planning, you'll quickly realize that among
all the expensive things, transportation costs are
honestly mind-boggling.
A single intercity train ride can easily cost over ~$115,
and round-trip mountain railway tickets often exceed
~$230 per person, making it incredibly
daunting for budget-conscious travelers.
That's exactly why most visitors rely on the Swiss Travel Pass.
But let's be honest... figuring out what exactly it is,
whether it makes sense for your specific itinerary,
and worrying about wasting money on an expensive pass
can be super stressful, right?
So today, I'm breaking down the types and prices of the Swiss Travel Pass,

and how to structure your itinerary to get the absolute most out of it.

The Swiss Travel Pass is broadly divided into two categories.
✔ Continuous (Swiss Travel Pass)
A pass used on consecutive days starting from a designated date.
Available in 3, 4, 6, 8, and 15-day options,
it's recommended for fast-paced travelers who move around every day.
✔ Flexi (Swiss Travel Pass Flex)
A pass where you choose specific travel days within a one-month period.
Available in 3, 4, 6, 8, and 15-day options,
it's ideal for travelers who plan to stay in one city for a few days at a time.
The Flexi pass is slightly more expensive than the Continuous one,
but the massive advantage is the
freedom it gives you to choose your travel days.
It allows you to pause the pass on days when you just want to
relax or explore right around your hotel!
Because of this, I personally chose the Flexi pass.
If you're moving between cities daily, go Continuous.
If you're taking it slow and spending time in one spot,
Flexi is much more efficient!
You can choose between 1st and 2nd class seating,
but since the breathtaking views are exactly the same from both,
opting for 2nd class is the best way to save some cash.
As of 2026,
Swiss Travel Pass prices have seen a slight increase.
Here are the prices for Adult 2nd Class Continuous passes:

and used it as my home base while utilizing the Swiss Travel Pass.

Staying near Grindelwald means you wake up and go to sleep
surrounded by lush, green alpine vibes,
plus you get direct views of the Eiger North Face right from your room.
On top of that, Grindelwald Terminal station
has trains running right out front, making it super
convenient to zip over to Interlaken. The main Grindelwald village
is also just a quick walk or short transit ride away.
Using Grindelwald Terminal as my hub,
I used my active pass days to visit
Interlaken, Grindelwald, and Zermatt.
On the days I chose not to use the pass,
I simply took the gondola up to First and hung out there.
Also, the Eigergletscher route up to Jungfraujoch
is discounted with the Swiss Travel Pass,
and since this route starts right at Grindelwald Terminal,
the location was absolutely perfect.
It was the ultimate itinerary for squeezing every drop of value
out of the pass while easily hitting the best nearby sights!

is a highly efficient strategy.
