Planning a trip to Sorrento, Italy, and renting a car?

Finding a comfortable and budget-friendly parking spot can be tricky, but I'm here to share a quick tip!

This information will be super helpful for your 2026 Italian road trip.

1. Sorrento's Streets Are Incredibly Narrow...

The Hunt for Parking in Sorrento

Sorrento is an ideal base for exploring Southern Italy with a rental car. Compared to Amalfi or Positano, accommodations here are often more affordable, and it’s a vibrant town with fantastic restaurants and picturesque scenery.

However, as you can see in the photos above, Sorrento's roads are notoriously narrow – a real challenge! Street parking is virtually impossible, and dedicated parking lots aren't abundant.

I stayed in Sorrento for two nights and was able to use my hotel's parking. But for those just passing through for a few hours of sightseeing, an affordable parking option is essential. Let me share details about a parking lot I used before checking into my accommodation.

2. Your Go-To Parking Spot in Sorrento

I didn't think to take exterior photos at the time, but this spot is actually a large supermarket parking lot in Sorrento. (You can find entrance photos in the Google Maps reviews, which might be helpful!)

You can park here even if you're not shopping at the supermarket, and it operates on a post-paid system.

The parking rates are clearly displayed at the entrance.

Supermarket customers get 1 hour free (with a purchase of ~$11 or more), otherwise, it's ~$2 per hour.

It's a covered parking lot (though not fully enclosed), and being a supermarket parking lot, it feels relatively safer than open-air options.

You'll receive a ticket upon entering, and you can pay at the automated machine before you leave. If you did make a purchase at the supermarket, simply show your ticket to the cashier to get your first hour free.

3. Exploring the Sorrento Supermarket

Since I was already parked, I decided to take a look around the supermarket and grab some snacks. Here are a few glimpses of the interior.

I picked up some delicious prosciutto here. If you love cured meats like prosciutto or jamón, I highly recommend getting them sliced fresh at the deli counter rather than buying pre-packaged options. They are so much more moist and flavorful!

I often do this when I visit Spain, and in Italy, I used a combination of gestures and a translation app to ask for 100g of the best prosciutto. You can also buy other items like salami this way. (Pro tip: even 50g is usually plenty!)

These fresh cuts make for perfect appetizers to enjoy with a glass of wine back at your accommodation. The photo on the right shows the ticket dispenser for the deli counter, but when I visited, there was no line, so I just walked up and ordered.

You can also purchase various pickled items like olives, peppers, and sardines by weight, and have cheeses cut to your liking.

Don't be shy about ordering this way – it's not too difficult, and the staff are generally very friendly. It's a fantastic way to enjoy delicious, fresh products often at a better price than pre-packaged alternatives.
