Sitges is an absolute must-visit destination for a day trip from Barcelona.
I recently visited for the first time and was so captivated that I'm already dreaming of an overnight stay next time.
Today's post is less of a formal guide and more of a visual diary, a photo dump if you will, sharing my experience exploring this charming town.

Sitges: A Coastal Gem Near Barcelona

Sitges is a beautiful coastal town located approximately 22 miles southwest of Barcelona.
Imagine a picturesque seaside escape, roughly the distance from Los Angeles to Santa Monica, with a population of about 30,000 residents.
If you look at the map above, you can spot Sitges in the bottom left corner. It's quite small compared to Barcelona, isn't it? You can reach Sitges from Barcelona by train or bus, and many visitors opt for organized tours, which is what I did, combining it with a trip to Montserrat.

Our tour bus dropped us off in Sitges after our visit to Montserrat.
The weather that day was quite gloomy, which was a real shame for a coastal town that thrives on sunshine! We followed our guide from the parking lot into the town, and it's always charming to see everyone in the tour group diligently following along.
It started to rain right after I took these photos, so people began pulling out their umbrellas.
We parted ways with our guide near the beach, and after wandering through the charming alleys for a bit, we decided to grab lunch to escape the rain.
You can just make out a rainbow flag in the photo. Sitges has long been known as a very welcoming town for the LGBTQ+ community.
You'll actually spot rainbow colors in various corners of the alleys, symbolizing their presence. I even passed by what seemed to be a 'gay cafe' – I was surprised to see it packed with only men on the terrace!
A little drink and the sun coming out? Instant mood booster!
I happily ventured out for a stroll. Sitges isn't really about specific tourist attractions; it's more about enjoying leisurely walks along the beach and through the town, soaking in the relaxed resort atmosphere.
It's a popular getaway for people from Barcelona. I visited in March, so it was less crowded, but I hear it gets absolutely packed with Spanish locals during the summer months.
With palm trees lining the beachfront, it feels even more exotic and beautiful, doesn't it?
Did you know that soccer star Lionel Messi reportedly owns a villa here?
Many wealthy individuals have vacation homes in Sitges, and it's a highly desirable place to live. However, with limited supply, property prices here are quite steep.
The colorful buildings truly evoke that resort town feeling. I had a blast taking photos and exploring.
Although I came as part of a tour, we had plenty of free time, enough to see a good chunk of the town. I even enjoyed a leisurely lunch and still had time to spare.
Look at this adorable Chiringuito!
A chiringuito is a casual beach bar or small restaurant, often found right on the sand. They're perfect for enjoying seafood dishes or tapas. You'll find many chiringuitos along Barceloneta beach in Barcelona too.
Even without major landmarks, Sitges is a town that simply makes you feel good as you wander around. I'd love to stay for a night or two.
The weather in March was still a bit chilly, but it would be absolutely perfect in spring or fall. With Europe's scorching summers these days, I wouldn't recommend visiting in mid-summer... ^.^...
The **Sitges Carnival** takes place in February and is considered one of the most vibrant carnivals in Spain.
If your travel dates align, it would be an incredible experience. Also, like other Spanish cities, **Gay Pride** celebrations happen in June or July. If you prefer to avoid large crowds, you should definitely steer clear of Sitges during those dates.
Given that it's an LGBTQ+ friendly city and even has a nude beach, you might want to consider this if you're planning to visit with children.
Sitges: A Town Where You'll Want to Linger

It's only a 30-40 minute journey from Barcelona, making it perfectly feasible for a day trip. However, I believe it's also a wonderful place to spend a relaxed night, truly experiencing the Spanish way of 'rest and relaxation.'

You can get to Sitges from Barcelona by train or bus. Many people also visit Sitges as part of a tour combined with Montserrat. Sitges is located approximately 35km southwest of Barcelona, which is roughly the distance from Seoul to Gapyeong.
