Winter Shizuoka Trip
Top 3 Ryokan & Hotel Stays with Mount Fuji Views
Shizuoka, a city near Tokyo, is a popular small city known for its stunning views of Mount Fuji.
How about enjoying a winter trip to Shizuoka, gazing at the snow-capped Mount Fuji from a traditional ryokan?
I'm excited to recommend the top 3 hotel accommodations in Shizuoka, Japan, that offer breathtaking Mount Fuji views!
1. Fujisan Mishima Tokyu Hotel: Open-Air Hot Spring

📍 Fujisan Mishima Tokyu Hotel
17-1 Ichibancho, Mishima, Shizuoka 411-0036 Japan
Mishima Tokyu is a ryokan-style hotel, boasting the best city access among all the accommodations I'm sharing today.
It's conveniently located right in front of JR Mishima Station, making it easy to explore nearby restaurants and tourist spots. From the airport, it takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes to get here.
Priced at approximately ~$69 to ~$138 per night, it offers excellent value for money. Plus, with the chance to enjoy an open-air hot spring bath while admiring Mount Fuji, it's a popular choice for couples and family trips!

From superior rooms perfect for solo travelers to deluxe, suite, and traditional tatami rooms, there's a wide variety to choose from. The tatami rooms can accommodate up to 6 people, making them ideal for family or group trips!
Each room features large panoramic windows, offering stunning views of Shizuoka, and on clear days, you can even enjoy a breathtaking Mount Fuji view.

Breakfast can be added when you make your reservation, with an additional cost of approximately ~$17 per person.
The menu is a Japanese-style buffet, where you can savor Western and Japanese dishes, beverages, salads, and desserts.
However, Mishima Tokyu is located in the heart of the city with many great restaurants nearby, so I recommend exploring those first. If you don't find what you're looking for, then consider adding breakfast!

The absolute highlight of Fujisan Mishima Tokyu Hotel is its ryokan-style open-air bath, offering refreshing, expansive views of Mount Fuji!
Imagine soaking in a warm hot spring while gazing at Mount Fuji... isn't that the epitome of a luxurious and healing getaway?
While the open-air bath is wonderful anytime, in the evening, the sky darkens, and Mount Fuji becomes less visible, so I recommend visiting during the day or early morning.
Just a heads-up: the open-air baths are separated by gender, so couples won't be able to enjoy them together.

2. Nippondaira Hotel

📍 Nippondaira Hotel
1500-2 Mabase, Shimizu Ward, Shizuoka, 424-0875 Japan
The Nippondaira Hotel offers stunning views from various parts of the hotel, including the lounge.
You'll be treated to invigorating Mount Fuji views.
The price per night is incredibly affordable, ranging from around ~$69 to ~$138.
It's also super convenient with great accessibility to Shizuoka city center,
making it consistently popular among travelers!

From JR Shizuoka Station and Higashi-Shizuoka Station,
the hotel operates a free shuttle bus service.
This makes traveling between the city and the hotel a breeze.
** A parking lot is also available for rental cars.
✔ The journey takes approximately 30-40 minutes,
and you can check the schedule and boarding locations in the photo above.

Each hotel room features large panoramic windows,
allowing you to soak in an unobstructed and expansive
snow-capped Mount Fuji view throughout your stay.
** Please note that some standard rooms may not offer a Mount Fuji view.
With a variety of room types including twin, suite, and tatami rooms,
it's perfect for solo travelers or romantic getaways.
The facilities and amenities are also superb and luxurious,
making it ideal for a wonderful family trip with your parents!

The lounge at Nippondaira Hotel is often cited as
one of the must-visit spots in Shizuoka.
In this luxurious and comfortable lounge, you can indulge in an afternoon tea set
with sweet desserts and a cup of tea, all while enjoying the expansive panoramic windows
offering breathtaking Mount Fuji views!

Breakfast is an optional extra when booking your stay,
and since the hotel is nestled in the mountains with no restaurants or convenience stores nearby,
you should pick up food before boarding the shuttle bus.
But while you're traveling in Japan,
I highly recommend experiencing the hotel breakfast as part of the full package!
🍴 Approximately ~$17 extra per person for breakfast.
The breakfast area, bar, cafe, and restaurant all feature
panoramic windows, so guests can enjoy Mount Fuji views
from anywhere while savoring delicious food.
Come and experience a special staycation unique to Shizuoka.

3. Ryokan Izu Nagaoka Onsen

📍 Izu Nagaoka Onsen Hotel Tenbo
431-1 Nagaoka, Izunokuni, Shizuoka 410-2211 Japan
Izu Nagaoka Onsen, with prices starting from around ~$138-~$276 per night,
is the most expensive accommodation I've introduced today,
but once you see the facilities and room options,
you'll understand what incredible value this ryokan offers!
While incredibly popular among local Japanese travelers,
it's a hidden gem of a ryokan that many foreigners don't know about,
making it the perfect place to truly immerse yourself in Japanese culture! 😆
The ryokan is about a 3-hour journey from Shizuoka Airport,
requiring about three transfers if you use public transport.
The cost for this is around 2,500 JPY (~$17).
So, if you can, definitely rent a car for a much smoother and more comfortable trip!

From rooms with private open-air baths boasting incredible views of Mount Fuji,
to traditional Japanese tatami rooms and terrace onsen options,
there's a wonderful variety of room types to choose from.
Among these, the rooms with private open-air baths are the most popular,
and they are typically fully booked until next spring.
If you happen to be lucky enough to find a vacancy for the winter season,
don't even think twice – book it instantly!

Even if you can't snag a room with a private open-air bath,
you can still enjoy the amazing communal public baths.
They're open until late, so you can unwind in a wonderfully warm open-air bath before bed,
or enjoy a refreshing morning onsen early in the day!
Beyond the open-air baths, there's also a separate foot bath area,
allowing you to experience the onsen in various ways.

Some rooms include a traditional Kaiseki dinner,
featuring seasonal sashimi, steak, a salad bar, desserts, and more.
The price including Kaiseki isn't even that expensive, and
the quality and presentation of the food are absolutely superb,
so make sure to truly indulge in this experience during your Japanese getaway :)
On the other hand, breakfast is always included with your booking,
prepared in a buffet style with both Western and Japanese options.
It's perfect for a light yet hearty meal, and there are plenty of dishes that even young children will love, so be sure to try it out.
