How to Get to Shimoyoshida

There are two main ways to get to Shimoyoshida:
1. By bus from Shinjuku Station
2. By train from Kawaguchiko
If you're departing from Shinjuku Station, you can explore Shimoyoshida first and then head to Kawaguchiko, or vice versa – either way works great for sightseeing!

However, if you're departing from Tokyo Station, you absolutely must use option 2.
Those departing from Shinjuku Station can choose to alight at either Shimoyoshida or Kawaguchiko. But if you're leaving from Tokyo Station, you can only go to Kawaguchiko Station.

For option 1, departing from Shinjuku, simply book your bus ticket with Shimoyoshida as your destination.
Today, let's talk about option 2: traveling by train from Kawaguchiko!

There are four types of trains that go to Shimoyoshida, and each has a different interior design and varying fares.
** All trains stop at Shimoyoshida Station **

The standard fare for any train is 310 yen, but if you want to use special seating areas like those shown in the photos above, you'll need to pay an additional fee.
The Fuji View Express and Fujisan Express trains are very popular, so it's best to book in advance on their website. However, if there are seats available on the day, you can also make a reservation on-site.

For regular trains, you can purchase your ticket on the day of travel.
If you have a transportation card, just tap it at the ticket gate to pass through. If you're paying with cash, use the ticket vending machines located in the corner of Kawaguchiko Station.

There can be significant gaps between trains, and the express trains aren't super frequent, so I recommend checking the timetable in advance and planning your trip accordingly!

I boarded a regular train,
and it looked just like a typical subway.
If only I had checked the timetable properly,
I could have ridden a more exciting train.
I'm feeling a bit regretful about it now.

For those of you taking the regular train like I did,
if you sit on the right side of the train
(facing the direction it's going), you'll be able to see
Mount Fuji right outside your window on the way!

From Kawaguchiko to Shimoyoshida Station,
it's about 3-4 stops, and the travel time is roughly 15 minutes.
In Shimoyoshida, I highly recommend visiting
Sengen Park and Honcho Street!

The place where you can witness this incredible sight is Sengen Park.
You'll need a bit of stamina to get there, but the view of Mount Fuji
from the summit feels like it's right at your eye level, offering a completely
different vibe compared to the Fuji views you'd get from Kawaguchiko.

Next up is Honcho Street.
The view of Mount Fuji from this street
was absolutely stunning! 🤍
Seeing it framed by the buildings made it feel even more
magnificent and awe-inspiring—!

Mount Fuji stands majestically at the end of the shopping street.
If you snap a photo while crossing the traffic light right in front,
with Fuji as your backdrop, you can capture some truly beautiful shots.
For a while, this spot was incredibly popular on social media for
check-in photos!

Before this spot became famous, there were hardly any tourists,
and you could leisurely take photos at the traffic light.
However, after it blew up on social media with all those check-in photos,
tourist numbers skyrocketed, and now there are even safety officers
stationed at the traffic light!

Honestly, whether you're in Shimoyoshida or Kawaguchiko,
even if it's not a designated tourist spot or famous location,
the views of Mount Fuji are stunning everywhere you look.
So, I think it would be great just to arrive and start exploring on foot!

Even on streets where Mount Fuji isn't visible, the charm of the place truly shines.

I'm already dreaming of another visit between this autumn and winter!
This time, I won't just do a day trip;
I'm planning to stay for at least one night.
I'm already so excited just thinking about sharing a post about a place to stay with incredible Mount Fuji views!
