Today, I'm thrilled to introduce you to Auberge Mermaid Hotel,

an excellent value-for-money accommodation near Mount Fuji's Kawaguchiko area,

located in Yamanashi Prefecture, just west of Tokyo.

Auberge Mermaid Hotel is nestled right next to Kawaguchiko Oishi Park,

offering incredible value compared to other hotels in the vicinity.

While the rooms might show a bit of age,

I chose this place for its unbeatable affordable rates and complimentary parking.

Imagine taking a leisurely stroll to Oishi Park,

waking up to the magnificent Mount Fuji views from the shared lounge,

and even enjoying private access to the large communal bath!

​Auberge Mermaid Hotel is conveniently located just

a 5-minute walk from Oishi Park.

If you're using public transport, you can take a bus from Kawaguchiko Station,

get off at Oishi Park, and then

walk to the hotel.

Since I visited by car,

complimentary parking was incredibly important to me.

The hotel offers 4 parking spaces in front of the building

and also has an underground parking lot, making parking very convenient.

My previous day trip to Mount Fuji with a friend was so wonderful,

that this time, I decided to return for an overnight stay with my husband.

Our plan was to explore Mount Fuji on the first day,

and then play a short course golf game on the second.

So, I looked for an affordable accommodation close to the golf course.

Winter is the off-season for Mount Fuji,

so weekday stays were surprisingly affordable.

Among the options, Auberge Mermaid stood out

for its good location and being the most budget-friendly choice, so I booked it!

While the accommodation generally felt a bit older,

the interior was immaculately maintained.

Since we mostly just needed a place to sleep,

we booked it purely for the free parking and

affordable price, rather than focusing on other facilities.

But with its various amenities and the Mount Fuji view,

I'm thrilled to share that it was incredibly satisfying for the price!

Restaurant

Next to the check-in counter, there was a restaurant,

which operates strictly by reservation only.

You can book it to include breakfast and dinner,

but the meal costs were quite pricey, so we didn't add them separately.

But THIS view from the restaurant!!

Sitting at the table, with Mount Fuji visible through the panoramic window,

I thought, "Ah! It really would have been fantastic even if we had booked meals!"

In the morning, with the bright sunlight,

Mount Fuji appears even clearer,

making it feel like you could have a truly exquisite meal.

Standard Room

The room I booked was the most affordable,

a standard room.

With a twin room layout, it was quite spacious

compared to many Japanese hotels.

The bed setup was a double bed and a single bed,

so I think a family of three could comfortably stay in one room.

On the other hand, the bathroom was quite small,

but since we had already reserved a spot for the communal bath (daeyokjang) at check-in,

we only used the room's bathroom for quick washes.

The amenities provided were quite standard, nothing particularly special.

What was unique was that water was provided in a kettle.

However, we didn't drink the water from the kettle;

we bought bottled water from a convenience store instead.

The amenities were individually packaged disposables,

so we only opened and used what we needed.

Instead of a shower gown, there were pajamas,

which we wore when heading to the communal bath.

There was a bit of a draft from the window,

but it was perfectly fine once we turned on the internal heater, as it became warm and cozy.

Communal Lounge

At the end of the room corridor, there was a communal lounge,

which guests can use comfortably 24 hours a day.

The lounge, with its cafe-like interior,

features large tables and comfortable chairs,

making it perfect if you need to get some work done on your laptop.

On one side, a sink and microwave are available,

which is great for heating up simple meals you might buy from a convenience store.

Next to it was a beverage fridge,

but I didn't use it as it operated on a self-payment system.

Mount Fuji comes into full view through the lounge's panoramic window,

allowing you to check the Mount Fuji forecast before you even check out.

Private Hot Spring Bath

I actually booked without knowing they had a hot spring bath,

but at check-in, they asked about my preferred usage time.

There were two bath areas available,

and I booked the slightly larger one.

There's a towel rack right in front of the bath area,

so you don't even need to bring towels from your room.

Inside the bath area, there's a dedicated space for changing clothes

and a separate dry vanity,

making it super convenient to use.

With a warm bath and a spacious area for washing,

everything was spotlessly clean and wonderfully spacious,

perfect for relaxing and unwinding your body after a cold day.

Oishi Park Promenade

The next morning after checking out,

I took a lovely stroll to Oishi Park.

You can use the connected pathway through the parking lot

to walk right up to the lake.

There were quite a few people near Oishi Park,

but it was much quieter behind the hotel, which I preferred.

In October, there were still some flowers blooming,

but by December, they had completely closed off the flower beds.

It felt like I had the entire park to myself in the peaceful morning hours,

allowing me to leisurely stroll and soak in the magnificent views of Mount Fuji.
