Shibuya Sky Tickets 2026: Booking Guide & Sunset Tips

"I'll just buy a ticket when I get to Shibuya Sky..."

Honestly, that’s exactly what I thought too.

But even though I arrived in the middle of the day,

same-day tickets were already completely sold out!

I was genuinely shocked.

If I hadn’t booked in advance,

I wouldn't have been able to go up to Shibuya Sky at all that day! haha

My friends took care of almost everything else for our Tokyo trip,

but this observatory was one of the few things I personally booked,

so I was incredibly relieved that I did! lol

If you're planning a trip to Tokyo and haven’t booked your tickets yet,

stop what you're doing and check availability right now!

Adult Tickets:

Approx. $19 (for entry before 2:59 PM) / Approx. $24 (from 3:00 PM onwards)

Online advance booking is highly recommended.

Same-day tickets at the counter are almost always sold out.

Only child/infant tickets are usually available for same-day on-site purchase.

Why does it sell out so fast?

The sunset and night-view slots are incredibly popular!

Even on weekdays, afternoon slots sell out early,

and weekends book up even faster.

Shibuya Sky is the observation deck located at the very top of the Shibuya Scramble Square building.

Standing about 754 feet (230 meters) above the ground,

it offers an incredible 360-degree panoramic view of Tokyo!

Because it's such a hot spot,

booking in advance is an absolute must.

Even though I booked a daytime slot, I was shocked to see that same-day sales were already closed when I arrived!

Let me share our actual experience!

We arrived in Shibuya around midday to head up to the observatory.

When we checked the ticket counter,

all adult tickets for the day were completely sold out!

Thankfully, we had our booking ready, but we would have been so disappointed if we had just shown up without one!

Our reservation was for 1:40 PM.

We got there a bit early, around 1:00 PM,

but they told us early entry wasn't allowed, and confirmed that all tickets for the day were gone.

The staff mentioned that not only the sunset hours,

but even weekday daytime slots sell out much faster than people expect.

If you want to secure a specific time, booking early is highly recommended!

Tickets open up 2 weeks in advance,

and if you want that perfect sunset slot, you'll need to be ready to book right at midnight when they drop!

I know many travelers only start looking into tickets a few days before their trip.

But as soon as your travel dates are locked in,

I highly recommend opening the booking site and securing your spot!

Especially during peak travel seasons like summer,

tickets sell out even faster, so early planning is key.

I booked our timed-entry tickets through Klook, which was incredibly easy and straightforward.

Make sure to check the available times ahead of your trip!

Crucial Things to Know Before You Go

Since the rooftop observatory is an open-air outdoor space,

it gets extremely windy up there.

Any items that could easily blow away—like bags, tripods, selfie sticks, and hats—are strictly prohibited on the deck!

You'll need to store all these items in the lockers before heading outside, so keep that in mind.

I brought my camera, but they told me I couldn't bring it up without a neck strap.

The good news is, they actually lend you camera straps for free! haha

So definitely bring your camera and get those gorgeous shots!

Also, keep in mind that if the weather gets bad,

the outdoor rooftop area may close temporarily for safety reasons without prior notice.

If your booking date has a rainy or very cloudy forecast,

it's good to keep this in mind. :(

Fortunately, we had clear blue skies and got to fully enjoy the incredible Tokyo views!
