Bateaux Mouches vs. Bateaux Parisiens
The Ultimate Seine River Cruise Guide: Routes, Boarding, and Prices
When it comes to cruising down the iconic Seine River in Paris, two names stand head and shoulders above the rest: Bateaux Mouches and Bateaux Parisiens.
If you are trying to decide which boat to board for your Parisian adventure, you are in the right place! Let us break down everything from their routes, boarding locations, prices, and booking tips to help you choose the perfect cruise.
Bateaux Mouches: The Classic Choice

Bateaux Mouches is the traditional, classic choice for a Seine River cruise, offering a wonderful 1-hour and 10-minute journey through the heart of Paris.
Departing from near the Pont de l'Alma, the route takes you east toward Notre-Dame, passing the Louvre Museum, City Hall (Hôtel de Ville), and the Conciergerie. On the return leg, you will sail past the Musée d'Orsay, the National Assembly, and finally get a stunning view of the Eiffel Tower.
Bateaux Parisiens: The Modern Experience

Bateaux Parisiens offers a more modern, sleek aesthetic with comfortable, glass-enclosed indoor seating that feels a bit more premium.
The cruise lasts about 1 hour. While the overall landmarks you see are very similar to Bateaux Mouches, the key difference is the starting point. Bateaux Parisiens departs right from the foot of the Eiffel Tower, allowing you to start and end your journey with a magnificent, up-close view of Paris's most famous landmark.

I personally opted for Bateaux Parisiens during sunset because I wanted to capture the transition from golden hour to the sparkling night lights of the Eiffel Tower from the best vantage point possible!
If you want the ultimate Eiffel Tower view ➡️ Choose Bateaux Parisiens
If you want a slightly longer, budget-friendly ride ➡️ Choose Bateaux Mouches

My Honest Cruise Experience

I planned my trip for a winter sunset, boarding around 4:00 PM on 02/15/2026.
If you want a prime spot on the open-air second deck, make sure to arrive at least 30 minutes before departure. I arrived right on time and ended up having to sit inside on the lower deck initially.

While the indoor area is warm and cozy, the glare on the glass makes it harder to get perfect photos.
Pro-tip: If you miss out on the top deck at the start, keep an eye out halfway through the cruise. Some passengers will head downstairs once they get cold, which is your cue to head up and grab their seats!

Watching the Eiffel Tower glow against the sunset and then sparkle in the night sky was an absolute dream. The two vibes are completely different but equally magical.

The moment the Eiffel Tower comes into view, everyone stands up to snap photos. Out of all the landmarks in Paris, this view from the water is truly unmatched! 🌟
Keep in mind that the open-air deck gets incredibly windy and cold, especially during winter when temperatures can drop below 40°F. Make sure to bundle up in layers!

A Seine River cruise is the absolute best way to experience the romance and beauty of Paris at night. Whether you go with Bateaux Mouches or Bateaux Parisiens, make sure to add this to your Paris itinerary!
