Sanraku Sushi Hitakatsu Review: A Hidden Gem for Dinner & Drinks
Stumbled upon Sanraku Sushi in Hitakatsu, Tsushima? This non-smoking spot is perfect for families and friends seeking delicious sushi, skewers, and local favorites.

During a slightly challenging trip to Tsushima, we unexpectedly stumbled upon a fantastic restaurant:
Sanraku Sushi.
We had planned to visit other spots, but they were all closed. So, we quickly searched for an alternative and landed here. Despite being a completely unplanned visit, we were thoroughly impressed!
If you're looking for a great place in Hitakatsu for dinner or an izakaya experience, you should definitely consider Sanraku Sushi!

Location

Sanraku Sushi is conveniently located in the heart of Hitakatsu.
It's not far from Value Mart and just a quick 10-minute walk from Hitakatsu Port, making it an excellent stop for day-trippers as well!
We visited in the evening, but they also serve lunch.
Menu

The interior features both counter seating and table seating, though it's not a particularly large restaurant.
When we arrived, the table seats were all taken, so we couldn't snap any photos of the full interior.

While many international visitors frequent this spot, there isn't a separate English menu. However, translation apps like Google Translate work quite well, so you shouldn't have any major concerns!

Although it's a sushi restaurant, we were surprised by the extensive variety on the menu. Beyond sushi, they offer tempura, skewers (yakitori), pizza, and even motsunabe (offal hot pot). There's truly a lot to choose from!
⚠️Please note: Motsunabe requires a minimum order for two people.

The "Tonchan," a charcoal-grilled pork dish, seemed to be a huge hit, as the kitchen was constantly grilling it. It reminded us a bit of Korean-style BBQ and appeared to be one of the most popular items, right after the tuna sashimi.

There are plenty of options for a full dinner, along with appetizers perfect for drinks and even desserts. Being a non-smoking restaurant, it's also a great choice for families traveling to Tsushima with children, looking for a relaxed dinner or an early izakaya experience.
Our Order

As dedicated beer enthusiasts, we naturally ordered a large beer right away. At ~$9 (~1330 JPY) for a large glass, alcoholic beverages in Tsushima generally seem a bit on the pricier side.

The assorted sashimi platter we ordered with our beer varies in price and composition daily, depending on the freshest catches. Prices typically range from ~$11 to ~$13 (~1650 JPY to ~2000 JPY).
Our platter, which cost ~$12 (~1800 JPY), included tender octopus, fresh tuna, and amberjack.
The sashimi was perfectly aged and incredibly fresh, making it an excellent pairing with our beer.

We also ordered the 5-piece assorted skewer platter, which featured tsukune (chicken meatball), chicken skin, chicken gizzard, chicken wing, and chicken thigh.
Grilled items can take a bit longer to prepare, so we recommend ordering them in advance!

Initially, we planned to finish up and head to another spot for round two, but almost all the other businesses nearby were closed. So, we decided to order more!
We added gyoza and grilled shishamo (smelt) to our order, both of which were perfectly satisfying.

The table also featured a list of daily specials, and from that, we chose the takowasabi (octopus with wasabi). The wasabi kick wasn't overpowering, and the seasoning was perfectly balanced, making it a delicious choice.
How to Make a Reservation

As I mentioned earlier, we visited without a reservation. Even arriving around 6 PM, the restaurant was already completely full, and many people who came after us had to be turned away.
If you're planning a dinner visit, I highly recommend making a reservation. You can book via LINE by scanning the QR code in the photo, or by phone.
Our total bill for two came to about ~$69 (~100,000 KRW). Considering we enjoyed six beers and ordered everything we wanted, it felt like a very reasonable price for the experience.
It wasn't our original plan, but in the end, we were really satisfied that we could enjoy a delicious dinner and drinks all in one place.
If you're looking for a single spot in Hitakatsu to enjoy sushi, sashimi, skewers, and other great izakaya dishes, Sanraku Sushi is definitely worth checking out.
