Saas-Fee: Hohsaas & Kreuzboden Alpine Viewpoint Guide 2026
Discover Saas-Fee's breathtaking Hohsaas and Kreuzboden viewpoints! Ride gondolas to over 10,000 feet, marvel at 13,000-foot peaks, and enjoy unique Alpine adventures.
While staying in Saas-Fee, Switzerland,
I pondered where to explore, and the place I ultimately chose was a
mountain railway adventure in Saastal. 🏔️

Saas-Fee itself boasts incredibly beautiful Alpine scenery,
but with just a short trip, you can take a gondola much higher up
to get up close to glaciers and 4,000m-class Alpine peaks.
We followed this route: Saas-Fee → Saas-Grund → Kreuzboden → Hohsaas → Kreuzboden Lake.
📍 Kreuzboden
3910 Saas-Grund, Switzerland
We rode the gondola up to admire the Alpine views,
enjoyed a beer at over 3,000m above sea level 🍺,
snapped photos at famous spots,
and even rode a raft on the mountain lake after coming back down – what a day!
There was surprisingly so much to do, making it a
perfect itinerary to fully enjoy one day of our Saas-Fee trip! Let me introduce it now.
📍 From Saas-Fee to Saas-Grund by Bus
Instead of taking the gondola directly from Saas-Fee,
we first headed towards Saas-Grund.

The Saastal region is convenient for traveling between villages by bus,
making it perfectly fine to explore without a rental car.
🚡 Take the Saastal Gondola Up to the Alps!
From here, we took the gondola
up to the summit of Kreuzboden first.

Kreuzboden is a mountain area located at an altitude of approximately 2,400m above sea level,
and the great advantage is that you can reach high up into the Alps with the gondola
without a difficult hike!
Especially, if you ascend to the Hohsaas summit, you can view 4,000m-class
Alpine peaks, so we decided to visit here first and then
descend midway!
I highly recommend checking out the Saastal Card before your trip!

As we started ascending by gondola, the village below gradually grew smaller,
and our eye-level began to match that of the Alpine mountains.
From this moment on, it truly felt like we were on a proper vacation… 🤍
The Saastal valley scenery visible outside the window was especially beautiful,
so I kept taking photos even inside the gondola.
🏔️ Past Kreuzboden, All the Way to Hohsaas!
Before Kreuzboden, we decided to go even higher up to
📍Hohsaas, located at the summit of this area.

If you want to truly experience the Alpine altitude on your Saas-Fee trip,
this is definitely a place worth visiting.

While lush green mountains and villages were visible below,
as we ascended higher, rocky mountains and snow-capped peaks drew closer before our eyes.
‘Ah, I’m truly in the Alps.’
This was the moment I realized it. 🇨🇭
📸 Swing on an Alpine Swing at 3,000m Above Sea Level
And the very first place I sought out after reaching Hohsaas!
It's a swing photo spot where you can take pictures with the Alpine mountains as your backdrop. 🏔️
You just can't pass by a place like this, right? Haha.

When you sit and take a photo with the sprawling Alpine mountain range behind you,
it's a photo spot where just one look at the picture instantly makes you feel like you've been on a grand Swiss adventure!
It's a brand-new swing that was built not too long ago.
Personally, during this Saastal trip,
this was one of the best moments to capture in photos.
Sitting on the swing with the Swiss Alps as a backdrop,
the scenery itself felt just like a postcard.
If you're looking to capture beautiful travel photos in Saas-Fee,
I recommend bringing a camera or tripod!
🍺 A Beer in the Swiss Alps
And then…
After coming all the way up to over 3,000m above sea level, there's a small restaurant (?) and
a pub! You can't possibly leave without having a beer, right? 🍺

A beer enjoyed while gazing at the Alpine scenery.
It tastes just like the beer I drink in Korea,
but why does it feel so incredibly special drinking it here? Lol.

This day wasn't just about quickly hitting a few sights and heading back down.
Instead, we spent a good amount of time just sitting, gazing at the mountains, and truly soaking in the tranquility.
I think this is the real charm of traveling in Switzerland. 🤍
🚡Descending to Kreuzboden
After spending ample time at Hohsaas,
we hopped back on the gondola and rode down. (About 5 minutes?)

Just so you know, trekking down would take about 1 hour and 40 minutes!

Because Kreuzboden holds another amazing sight!
The Kreuzbodensee (Lake Kreuzboden) is located right here!
💙 Kreuzbodensee: A stunning lake high in the Alps
I found it quite fascinating at first, seeing such a beautiful lake perched high up in the mountains.
The serene lake perfectly blended with the panoramic Alpine scenery stretching out behind it,
creating a completely different vibe from Hohsaas.

With goats and chickens roaming around, it's a totally different feeling to leisurely stroll by the lake compared to just gazing at the towering mountains.
📍Hohsaas → Kreuzboden → Kreuzbodensee
I highly recommend combining these two spots into one visit.
The area around the lake was also perfect for a light walk.

The biggest advantage of this route is that you can reach these high altitudes by mountain railway and enjoy the stunning Alpine scenery without any strenuous hiking!
I felt this was also a great itinerary for those who might feel pressured to do long treks on their Swiss trip.
🛶 We also tried the rope boat (?) on the lake!
And here's another fun discovery we made!

We even tried out the small rope boat experience on the lake! 👀
It was surprisingly fun, haha!
Rather than just observing the lake,
actually moving across the water made the travel experience feel so much more alive.
It seems like it would be great for families to enjoy with kids,
and it was also perfect for couples like us looking for a lighthearted activity.
And here's a secret: you can actually cross without the rope boat!

When you're running around, utterly thrilled by such a view,
you'll be taking photos and still hardly believing this is truly Switzerland.
It's S O G O O D ✨👀
🇨🇭 Saas-Fee Trip: Take the Gondola All the Way Here!
To summarize our enjoyable Saastal trip from Saas-Grund!
Saas-Fee 🚌 → Saas-Grund 🚡 → Kreuzboden → Hohsaas 🏔️ → Swing Photo Spot 📸 → Beer 🍺 → Descend to Kreuzboden → Kreuzbodensee 💙 → Rope Boat 🛶 → Descend
At first, I just thought we'd take the gondola up the mountain, enjoy the views, and come back down.
But once we actually got up there, we discovered:
✔️ Alpine Panorama
✔️ Hohsaas at 3,200m above sea level
✔️ Swing Photo Spot
✔️ Beer with a view from the mountain top
✔️ Kreuzbodensee
✔️ Raft (or "Rope boat") Experience
All these diverse experiences could be enjoyed in just one day!

If you have an extra day in Saas-Fee, this is a highly recommended itinerary.
📍 Saas-Fee
3906 Saas-Fee, Switzerland
While well-known places like Jungfrau or Zermatt are wonderful,
if you're looking to enjoy the Alpine nature at a more relaxed pace,
I think heading towards Saastal would be absolutely fantastic.
