Roppongi Hills Observatory: Best Tokyo Tower Sunset View
Want the best view of Tokyo Tower at sunset? Skip Shibuya Sky and head to Roppongi Hills Observatory. Here's how to score 50% off your tickets!

Golden Hour at Roppongi Hills

If you're looking for the ultimate spot to capture the iconic Tokyo Tower alongside a breathtaking sunset, look no further than the Roppongi Hills Observatory (Tokyo City View).
I tried to visit on my last trip to Tokyo, but it was closed for renovations. So, on my 2026 trip, it was at the top of my itinerary!
Spoiler alert: You absolutely *must* go during golden hour.
📍 Roppongi Hills
6-chōme-10-1 Roppongi, Minato City, Tokyo 106-6108, Japan

I booked my tickets through Klook, and I'm so glad I did.
(Klook was significantly cheaper than other platforms!)
Booking in advance is way more budget-friendly than buying tickets at the door. Here is my complete guide on how to score discounted tickets and navigate your way into the Roppongi Hills Observatory!
Roppongi Hills Observatory Ticket Prices

If you buy your tickets at the counter on the day of your visit, it costs 2,600 JPY (around $17).
But if you book in advance on Klook? It drops to around ~$9!
Yes, you read that right.
That's nearly a 50% discount. Why would anyone pay full price at the door?
How to Book Roppongi Hills Observatory Tickets

I compared prices between Trip.com and Klook, and Klook was by far the cheapest option.
It came out to ~$10 per person.
I'm not sure why the price gap is so massive—it's almost an $8 difference!
Seeing those savings, I booked through Klook without a second thought. 😉

✔️ Select your preferred date and entry time,
✔️ Choose the number of people, and you're good to go!
Klook frequently runs flash sales, so you can score some pretty sweet deals right now. ✨

Since my main goal was catching the sunset, I planned my visit for about 30 minutes before golden hour.
I selected the 6:00 PM time slot!
Once booked, a digital voucher is sent straight to your email.
Pro tip: Pull up the webpage or have the Klook app open and ready before you get to the ticket counter to make the exchange process seamless.
How to Enter Roppongi Hills Observatory

When you first arrive at the Roppongi Hills complex, finding the observatory can be a bit confusing.
🌟 Just look for the signs pointing to "Tokyo City View" 🌟
Follow that direction!

Right here!
Head up to the 2nd floor, where you'll find the ticket exchange counter.
After swapping your digital voucher for a physical ticket, you'll take a dedicated elevator soaring up to the 52nd floor. ✨

I had my voucher ready to go!
I didn't have the Klook app installed, so I just logged into the website on my phone's browser, clicked on my voucher, and showed them the screen.

Once you get off the escalator, look to your left to find the Information Desk.
👉 This is where you exchange your digital voucher for a physical ticket.
You'll see a "Redeem" button on your digital voucher.
Do NOT click this until the staff asks you to right at the counter!

Grab your physical ticket, hop in the elevator, and ride up to the 52nd floor. You're in!
My reservation was for 6:00 PM, but I arrived a bit early around 5:45 PM. The staff checked my ticket and let me right in without any hassle. ✨

Seriously, you have to add Roppongi Hills to your Tokyo itinerary.
It is absolutely stunning.
The sunset was slightly cloudy that day, but seeing Tokyo Tower framed perfectly through the massive 360-degree curved windows was magical.
Honestly? I think the view here is even better than at Azabudai Hills...

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the Tokyo sky turned a brilliant shade of orange.
It was the perfect backdrop for the vibrant red of Tokyo Tower. ✨

You don't just have to stand dead center! As you walk along the curved glass to the right, you get different, equally gorgeous angles of the tower.
The perspective changes just enough that you'll want to wander around and take photos from every possible spot. 📸

Walk a little further inside,
and you'll find the sweet spot for taking in the "true" sunset experience.

Absolutely insane.
I wish I could have moved some of those clouds out of the way, but honestly?
If the sky looks this incredible *with* clouds, imagine how mind-blowing it is on a perfectly clear day.

Since I was on a mission for the perfect sunset, I didn't stick around long enough to see the full nighttime skyline.
If you want to catch both the sunset and the sparkling city lights, I highly recommend dedicating a full hour here: 30 minutes before sunset and 30 minutes after!

My first time at Roppongi Hills was a massive success.
If you want a panoramic view that specifically highlights Tokyo Tower, I genuinely recommend this spot over Shibuya Sky!
And remember, booking in advance is significantly cheaper than buying at the door, so do your wallet a favor and grab your tickets early. ✨
