Room Mate Pau Barcelona Review 2026: Safe Stay Near Plaça Catalunya
Discover Room Mate Pau, a top Barcelona hotel near Plaça Catalunya, offering unbeatable safety and location. Perfect for exploring Gaudi's city worry-free in 2026.
Barcelona, Spain—a city infamous for its notorious pickpockets.
They say it ranks in the top 3 cities in the world for pickpocketing,
so when I was planning my trip to Spain, my biggest worry and concern
was exactly where to stay in Barcelona.
Especially since my itinerary involved walking everywhere on foot to see the Gaudi sites and main attractions,
convenience and safety were my absolute top priorities.
Plus, because I care about accommodation more than anything else when I travel,
I filtered out any places that were far from metro stations or tucked away in sketchy alleys,
and decided on a spot with stellar reviews for safety, cleanliness, and location!
Long story short, here is the start of my happy record of this 100% self-funded hotel that I absolutely loved during my 5-day, 4-night stay! ✨
Where to Stay in Barcelona with Zero Pickpocket Worries: Safety Standards near Plaça de Catalunya
When choosing accommodation in Barcelona, the choices generally fall into
the Gothic Quarter, Eixample, and around Plaça de Catalunya.
I immediately skipped the Gothic Quarter since there were so many reviews pointing out safety concerns there.
📌
[My 3 Must-Have Criteria for Choosing a Hotel]
1. Safety: A wide, well-lit main street with plenty of foot traffic, even late at night.
2. Cleanliness: Absolutely zero reviews mentioning bedbugs or pests.
3. Location: Super convenient to walk to all the major tourist spots.
✔️
So, after weighing all these conditions,
I decided on the safe and centrally located Plaça de Catalunya area,
and out of all the hotels near the plaza,
I made my final choice: Room Mate Pau! ✨

There was a supermarket right in front of the hotel,
making it incredibly easy to grab water or snacks even late at night.
Plus, just a 1-minute walk away was the holy grail of Spanish shopping:
the massive El Corte Inglés department store,
which was perfect for souvenir hunting and shopping. The quality of the gourmet food hall in the basement was also fantastic!
On top of that, both the metro station and bus stops were right outside,
making it super easy to head to major sights like the Sagrada Família or Casa Batlló.
Getting anywhere was an absolute breeze.
Whenever I got tired from walking all day or had too many heavy shopping bags to carry,
it was so easy to drop everything off, take a quick break, and head right back out. The location was truly unbeatable!

Barcelona Aerobús Safety & The 2-Minute Walk Accessibility to Room Mate Pau
Above all, the most crucial factor I considered when choosing a hotel in Barcelona was
the distance from the Aerobús (airport bus) stop to the hotel.
Landing at Barcelona Airport past 7:00 PM on a direct flight,
the thought of dragging heavy suitcases to the hotel in the dark
made me really anxious about safety and pickpockets.
Plus, since we had to catch another flight to Mallorca after our 5-day trip in Barcelona,
and head back to Barcelona Airport in just a few days,
the round-trip route to and from the airport was a major priority for us.
🚌
Among all the ways to get to the city center from Barcelona Airport,
the most cost-effective and convenient option is the Aerobús—
and its final stop (and starting point) is right at Plaça de Catalunya.
From where the Aerobús drops you off, the hotel is a 2-minute walk flat❗️
The path from the airport bus stop to the hotel
is smooth, flat pavement rather than those bumpy European cobblestones, making it incredibly easy to roll heavy suitcases.
And since the massive El Corte Inglés department store is right next door,
the street was bright, bustling, and not intimidating at all. I was absolutely thrilled! ✨

Bedbug-Free Stay: Honest Room Condition Review of Room Mate Pau, Barcelona
As soon as I stepped into the hotel lobby,
I noticed an elevator wrapped in unique, artistic modern-art-style designs.
There are rooms up to the 7th floor, and we were assigned a room on the 4th floor after checking in.

The only thing as terrifying as pickpockets on a European trip is bedbugs... 😳
Since I'm quite meticulous and prioritize cleanliness above everything else when booking hotels,
I'm the type to dig through the latest reviews looking for any mention of bedbugs.
Any hotel that had even a single mention of bugs got immediately crossed off my list.
Room Mate Pau in Barcelona had rave reviews for its cleanliness,
so I booked with confidence. And indeed, the room was impeccably clean and neat! ✨
Let's head inside the room! 👇🏻

Instead of a dusty carpet, the floor is a clean, sleek hardwood style,
giving the room an instant breath of fresh air the moment you step in!
The built-in desk right in front of the bed, paired with a uniquely designed chair, adds such a stylish touch.

There’s also a dedicated luggage nook in the corner with a cute suitcase illustration,
making it super easy to lay open your bags and organize your gear!

They had complimentary tap water waiting on the table,
and even set up welcome chocolates and a card on the bed!
It's the little details that win you over🤍
The bedding was absolutely crisp and clean, too.

A mini-fridge, safe, and electric kettle are all ready to go,
and the closet space behind the curtain has plenty of hangers.

✔️
The bathroom was spotless—no water stains or mold, and the water pressure was amazing!
What I loved most was the dry vanity being sleekly separated from the shower area.
It made getting ready in the morning with two people so much easier!
P.S. The hair dryer and extra toilet paper are tucked away in the drawer under the sink.

Safety, cleanliness, and unbeatable location...
