Exploring Sicily, Italy
And I'm so glad I went!
Ragusa: A UNESCO Baroque City
✍️Travel Writer Nanna from LaidBack Journeys
First, I spent a lot of time pondering whether to visit Ragusa or Modica,
and if I did, where to stay.
Modica seemed to resonate more with my aesthetic preference,
but Ragusa's ancient cityscape, seemingly suspended in the sky, coupled with its fantastic night views, ultimately swayed me to choose the latter.
Then, just two days before my stay, I hastily booked accommodation.
I hadn't done any research beforehand, and it was such a last-minute decision,
so I just picked a place with good reviews and a decent price.
Well, turns out I hit the jackpot!
I truly hope this helps anyone planning their own Sicilian adventure!
Where Ragusa Superiore Meets Ragusa Ibla: The Perfect Vantage Point
Ragusa Ibla: The Panoramic View

Ragusa Ibla is the city's charming old town. After a devastating earthquake destroyed parts of it, the surviving residents rebuilt a new city on the hill, known as Ragusa Superiore.
While choosing which area is 'better' largely depends on personal preference,
just as you can't see the Eiffel Tower from its very top, if you stay within Ragusa Ibla itself, you'll be immersed in its charming, romantic alleys, but you'll miss out on the majestic panoramic views of the entire Ibla.
Therefore, most travelers prefer a location that offers the absolute best views of Ibla.
Was it luck? My hastily chosen accommodation turned out to be in that exact prime spot!
Where Ragusa Ibla Unfurls Before Your Eyes in a Breathtaking Panorama
Via Pezza 100

While not visible directly from the room, the connected (private) terrace offers...
as you can see, this stunning view unfolds before you.
Thanks to this, I got to soak in both the enchanting night and serene morning landscapes,
and it felt truly cinematic.

Ready for a closer look?
A Spacious and Inviting Room
A generously sized room featuring a crisp blue duvet.

What truly captured my heart were the floor tiles, absolutely brimming with Italian charm.
You'll also find a mirror and hangers.
Ta-da!
There are chairs, a TV, and even drawers!
And yes, a refrigerator too!

The bathroom is spacious too!
And spotless, wouldn't you agree?
Yes, a hairdryer is provided!
And fresh towels are always available.

The Ultimate Perk: A Private Terrace!
I booked so quickly that I didn't even know what amenities were included,
but guess what? There was a terrace!
And it was connected directly to my room, for my sole use!
This is it, right here:

And if you turn your gaze forward, voilà!

What I loved most was not needing to step out to enjoy the evening nightscape.
And savoring breakfast with such a magnificent view? It simply couldn't taste anything but incredible, could it?

And here's what the night view was like...

Unbeatable Location for Accessibility
Right in front of your accommodation, you can take the stairs directly down to Ibla – a super convenient shortcut!
Even Santa Maria delle Scale, a famous spot for those once-in-a-lifetime photos, is just a stone's throw away.

Price
Late October was the off-season. It was a bit quiet with fewer tourists, but thanks to that, my wallet got a nice break!
I booked it maybe two days before, and looking back, it was incredibly cheap.
It was in the ~$51 range.

Wow~ I wonder how much it is now?
Let's search!
It's around ~$80 now.
Well, the Euro has risen quite a bit lately.
Still, you're surprised by how affordable it is, aren't you?
What you need now is to snag one of the remaining rooms!

The decisive factor that made me realize staying in Ragusa was a brilliant idea
was the morning scenery.

While it's beautiful during the day,
seeing Ibla lit up at night is simply magnificent,
and the dreamy atmosphere at sunrise almost brought tears to my eyes.

Thanks to the off-season, I booked cheaply, and while the quiet streets made it a little melancholic, I found myself in a delightful dilemma, wondering if I should truly be enjoying this beauty all by myself.
