Where to Stay in Kabukicho, Shinjuku

Words & Photos by High Couple
Planning a trip to Tokyo?
You probably want to stay in Shinjuku for its
unbeatable transit connections and convenience,
but are you hesitating because of the high prices?
Today, I'm excited to introduce a spot that perfectly
balances an amazing location with an affordable price tag:
Premier Hotel Cabin in Shinjuku's Kabukicho district!

Special Notes | Breakfast: Adults ~$14 (1,800 JPY) / Kids ~$7 (900 JPY) Front entrance locks automatically late at night |

Premier Hotel Cabin is incredibly convenient because
📍 it's close to both Shin-Okubo and Shinjuku stations,
making airport access a total breeze.
Plus, because it's located right in Kabukicho—
Tokyo's legendary nightlife mecca—
you'll find endless late-night eateries and bars.
✅ Best of all, despite being in prime Shinjuku,
room rates start at around ~$115 per night,
making it a fantastic value for your money.
If it's your first time visiting Tokyo, you might be
wondering about safety in Kabukicho.
Let's look at the map below to break down the location and vibe.

The green area highlighted on the map represents Kabukicho,
which is actually quite a large district.
The loudest, most crowded nightlife spots
are concentrated in the southern section.
This southern area truly comes alive after dark,
packed with izakayas and restaurants open until dawn.
Naturally, this means you'll encounter plenty of
street promoters and lively crowds.
While the aggressive touting might feel a bit overwhelming at first,
Kabukicho is generally quite safe by global standards.

Fortunately, the Premier Hotel Cabin
is located two or three blocks away
from the main chaos, making it surprisingly quiet.
Despite the peace, there's still plenty of foot traffic,
and you're just one block away from fantastic 24-hour ramen shops,
so you never feel isolated or unsafe walking back.

Now, let's dive into my recent stay
at Premier Hotel Cabin and see the rooms.

The lobby is impeccably clean,
though the decor leans a bit toward a classic, retro aesthetic.
However, it's quite spacious, giving it a nice open feel.

For added security, the main entrance doors
lock automatically during late-night hours.
You need your room key card to enter,
which provided great peace of mind.

The lobby also features a designated smoking room and a
luggage scale for guests to use.
The scale is an absolute lifesaver on your last day
to avoid those dreaded overweight baggage fees at the airport!
The front desk staff spoke excellent English,
making check-in an absolute breeze.
Since I prepaid my reservation, there were no surprise taxes upon arrival.

I booked a Semi-Double Room,
and was assigned a non-smoking room on the 3rd floor.

The layout features a short entryway with the
bathroom on the left and the main bedroom area straight ahead.
It's a textbook Japanese business hotel design.
The hallway was just wide enough to roll a
24-inch suitcase through comfortably.

The double bed is pushed against the wall,
with a compact desk and chair set up near the headboard.
The mattress was surprisingly plush and comfortable!
Across from the bed, you'll find the mini-fridge and other amenities,
leaving a decent strip of floor space in the middle.

For reference, this space was just wide enough
to lay my 24-inch suitcase flat!

Room amenities included complimentary tea and bottled water.
With so many hotels cutting back on free water these days,
this was a much-appreciated perk.
While I didn't use all of them, the room came fully equipped with a
mini-fridge, electric kettle, and a powerful AC unit.

Back near the entryway...
They provided four hangers, though the
hanging space itself was quite narrow
due to the compact room size.
There was a full-length mirror right by the door,
perfect for a final outfit check
before heading out for the day.

Let's take a look at the bathroom.
It's a highly efficient, compact unit bath featuring a
deep soaking tub, toilet, and sink.
I'll admit the legroom around the toilet was a bit tight,
but everything else was perfectly functional.

Bathroom amenities included two towels per person,
along with full-sized body wash, shampoo, and conditioner.
They even provided a complete set of disposable toiletries.
I brought my own shower gear just in case,
but I didn't even need to unpack it!

As for other facilities, you'll find vending machines on every floor,
and ice makers on select floors.
My floor (the 3rd floor) happened to have an ice maker,
which was fantastic for chilling my evening drinks.
I originally booked Premier Hotel Cabin
because I wanted an affordable place near Shinjuku.
After staying here, I was incredibly impressed by the
unbeatable location and spotless facilities.
As someone who loves hunting down late-night eats,
being right on the edge of Kabukicho was a massive advantage.
If you're a night owl looking to maximize your Tokyo itinerary,
▶️ or simply someone hunting for a budget-friendly hotel in a prime location,
I highly recommend this spot.
