P Kitchen Bangkok Asok Review: Delicious Local Thai Cuisine

Bangkok's Asok BTS/MRT station area is always buzzing with tourists. While I often find myself at the food courts inside Terminal 21, sometimes I crave a taste of authentic local cuisine just around the corner. That's how I discovered P Kitchen, a fantastic spot that offers great food at reasonable prices and boasts a wonderfully inviting atmosphere.

P Kitchen is just a pleasant 10-minute stroll from Asok Station (also known as Sukhumvit MRT Station). This particular alley is quite familiar to me, as it's home to the Rembrandt Hotel, where I've often stayed. You'll also find Ace Spa, a popular spot among many visitors, so if you've explored Bangkok a few times, chances are you've walked past this area before.

Look for the 'THAI FOOD&MORE' sign, illuminated by a charming, sparkling chef light. It's a welcoming beacon, perhaps representing the owner's passion for great food!

Head inside and make your way up to the second floor. Interestingly, P Kitchen is quite popular with Western travelers, often more so than local Asian visitors, giving it a truly international vibe.

Stepping onto the second floor, you'll find a relaxed and inviting space. The food here is universally delicious, so you can leave any worries behind! I've noticed that many international visitors, perhaps preferring a more refined setting over rustic street-side spots, gravitate towards places with a great ambiance like P Kitchen.

Beyond the charming terrace seating, there are plenty of tables inside the restaurant. We chose a quiet spot to dive into the extensive menu.

The Menu

Get ready to explore P Kitchen's menu! A common trait of Thai restaurants is that their menus are often as thick as a novel. With over a hundred dishes, it can easily take 20 minutes or more to decide if you don't already have something in mind!

For those looking for a guaranteed delicious choice, there are a few common dishes that almost everyone loves. Som Tum, or Thai papaya salad, is definitely one of them.

The basic Som Tum is a classic Thai-style papaya salad, and the flavor varies slightly depending on any additional ingredients. The standard version is perfectly satisfying on its own. And don't think shrimp tempura is only good in Japanese cuisine; the fried dishes here are also excellent.

The omelets, prepared with eggs, are also a fantastic choice. While Tom Yum Goong and other soup dishes haven't quite won me over yet, if you're a fan of curries or hearty soups, I highly recommend exploring their soup menu.

You can easily add a simple fried rice and morning glory to your order, or go for the popular Poo Pad Pong Curry (crab curry) with a side of rice for a truly satisfying meal.

Given the warm weather, I started with a refreshing watermelon juice.

This time, I decided to lean into my love for eggs and ordered a few egg-centric dishes!

I ordered Som Tum with crab and an egg omelet. While the crab in the Som Tum didn't significantly alter the flavor from the basic version, it was still delicious – you really can't go wrong with the classic Som Tum here.

The egg omelet was generously filled with various vegetables and seafood, making it a perfect side dish to enjoy with rice.

Even though I had eggs in my fried rice, for an egg-lover like me, the more the merrier! While the combination might have felt a touch subtle for some, it was a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience. Classic pairings like Pad Thai with rice, or Poo Pad Pong Curry with Morning Glory are always solid choices.

Its excellent accessibility and welcoming atmosphere make it a great choice whether you're dining solo or with company. You can visit anytime and enjoy a wonderful meal in a charming setting.
