Next to Cijin Island, the most memorable spot from my trip to Kaohsiung, Taiwan,
has to be the 'Pier-2 Art Center,' beautifully nestled right along the waterfront.
With old warehouses creatively transformed into trendy cafes and retro-themed
boutiques, it is easily one of Kaohsiung's coolest hotspots.
While many travelers visit just to check out SunnyHills, famous for its pineapple cakes,
the seaside atmosphere of the Pier-2 Art Center is so wonderful
that it's also a perfect spot to just relax at a waterfront restaurant or cafe.
Plus, it's home to 'Wooderful Life,' famous for those gorgeous wooden music boxes that people love to buy directly online,
which made exploring the area even more exciting.
Here are 3 must-visit shops I highly recommend at the Pier-2 Art Center.
It's a great place to take a break and find endless things to see.

The Pier-2 Art Center features a variety of unique shops in every zone
and is incredibly photogenic, making it a highly recommended stop on your Kaohsiung itinerary.
How to Get to Pier-2 Art Center & Its Vibe
My son, my friends, and I first explored Cijin Island,
and then stopped by the Hamasen Railway Cultural Park.
These spots are close to each other,
and the light rail (tram) makes traveling between them super easy and accessible!
★ How to Get to Pier-2 Art Center ★ If taking the MRT (Orange Line): Get off at 'Yanchengpu' Station, Exit 1, and walk for about 5 minutes. If taking the Light Rail (Tram): Get off at Pier-2 Dayi Station; the walking path connects directly from there. |
I chose to take the light rail and hop off there,
and the vibe was completely different from the bustling city center of Kaohsiung.
Honestly, if I visit again, I’d love to dedicate a whole day here—
just strolling around, grabbing a bite, and reading a book at a cozy cafe!
It's a totally different vibe from the love boat cruise I took on my first day in Kaohsiung.

My Top 3 Recommended Places to Visit
Retro Camera Shop, Wooden Music Boxes, and Cafes
With the Port of Kaohsiung lining one side, the Pier-2 Art Center offers a breezy, open feel,
while the shopping alleyways are filled with charming vintage moods.
From gorgeous murals to tiny details, just wandering around slowly
filled me with that cute, whimsical, and cozy energy.

This is a specialty camera shop in the Pier-2 Art Center
selling various cameras, film, and accessories.
I know so many of us are obsessed with cameras these days, right?
They carry film from famous brands like Kodak and Polaroid,
as well as plenty of beautiful analog-themed camera props and accessories.
What caught my eye were these camera film roll stickers.
The design was so pretty and unique, making them perfect for various uses.
They would look absolutely adorable on a travel suitcase or a carry-on bag!
They were also running a heartwarming donation campaign,
where 5 TWD is donated for every film roll purchased.
It’s a beautiful camera boutique in the Pier-2 Art Center
where analog vibes and warm-hearted charity coexist.

One of the places I was most excited about at the Pier-2 Art Center
was 'Wooderful Life'—and even the entrance felt like stepping into a fairy tale.
As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a wide array of wooden figures and cute props
on display, and the space was surprisingly spacious inside!
What really caught my attention was that they don't just sell finished products.
You can actually DIY your very own music box by picking out your favorite parts!
If I had more time, I definitely would have crafted a DIY music box of my own.
Since I was exploring Kaohsiung with some Taiwanese friends I hadn't seen in a long time,
our schedule for the day was a bit tight.
Next time, I'm definitely bringing my son to Kaohsiung to make a DIY music box together!
I captured photos of the moving music boxes,
and seeing them in action made me completely understand why people order them online from overseas!
Buying them locally is much cheaper than buying them online from abroad,
so if you love Wooderful Life music boxes, this is a must-visit spot!
Besides music boxes, there are tons of cute items brimming with that unique Taiwanese charm,
making it such a fun place to browse around. :)

There are quite a few cafes scattered around the Pier-2 Art Center,
and 'Ruh Cafe No.5' is where my friends and I stopped by to catch our breath.
It had a beautifully modern, minimalist design.
The number '5' represents the sequence of their store openings—this is their fifth branch!
This local cafe first gained massive popularity among Taiwanese Gen Zs for its exceptional specialty beans.
They use a top-of-the-line 'Victoria Arduino' espresso machine,
so you can expect some seriously high-quality brews here.
It's a legendary Italian espresso machine brand often used in World Barista Championships.
Doesn't it look absolutely stunning?
The prices are a tad higher than typical local Taiwanese cafes,
but the incredible depth of flavor in every cup makes it worth every penny.
I ordered a latte, and I absolutely loved its deep, nutty richness.
Wrapping Up
With its fantastic atmosphere, retro boutique shops, and delicious dessert cafes,
this is a Kaohsiung itinerary that easily takes up a half-day or more.
The beautifully curated streets of the Pier-2 Art Center are lovely on their own,
but the scenic waterfront breeze makes it an absolute must-visit when you're in Kaohsiung!
Giving myself yet another excuse to return for that Wooderful DIY music box,
