If you've ever traveled to Europe, you've probably had this thought at least once:

People really ride bikes a lot abroad!

During my trip to Paris, even for distances that were walkable,
as the trip got longer,
I found myself getting quite tired physically!
Many people use bikes –
so I decided to try it myself *.*
Lime vs. Vélib'
From the Eiffel Tower to the Louvre,
from the Louvre to Pont Neuf, etc.
there are always those moments during your trip
when public transport feels a bit awkward to take!
At times like that, the best choice is "a bike."

Paris, in particular, has well-maintained bike lanes,
making it an amazing city for cycling *.*
Among them, the most popular shared bikes in Paris are
Vélib' and Lime.
This time, I tried using Lime, which I was a bit more familiar with *.*
Category | Lime | Vélib' |
Usage Fee | A bit expensive | Relatively affordable |
Operating Company | Private company | Publicly operated by the City of Paris |
Parking Location | Designated parking spots required | Parking allowed in designated zones (check via app) |
1. How to Use Lime Bikes

First, download the Lime app.

Lime bikes offer a wide variety of passes, such as a 30-minute pass for one day
or a 60-minute pass for three days.
I opted for the 60-minute pass for three days,
and I used every minute of it *.*
2. How to Rent a Lime Bike

The rental process is identical to that of electric scooters!
1. Purchase a pass.
2. Find a nearby bike using the map in the app.
3. Scan the QR code in the app.
What to Do When You're Done Using a Lime Bike?

After parking the bike in a 'P' marked parking zone on the app,
end the ride + take a photo!
3. My Review of Using Lime Bikes
If you've used electric scooters like G-Cooter in Korea,
Lime might feel more familiar to you!
✔️Easy to find anywhere
✔️Can be parked anywhere!

Although you need to park in a 'P'-marked parking area,
there are so many diverse parking spots available
that you can practically park anywhere.

Since it's an electric bike, you can ride it without much effort!
However, because it's an electric bike,
the bike itself is quite heavy!
At first, it was hard to balance, and I stopped a few times,
but then I couldn't overcome the weight, and the bike fell over, haha... ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ ㅠ

But once you get used to it,
becoming a true Parisian is just a moment away *.*

Oh, how wonderful it is to cycle along the Seine River...
I couldn't take photos while riding, for fear of falling,
but a beautiful day + a bike + the Seine River = a fantasy come true!
ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ
4. Pro Tip for Using Lime Bikes in Paris
Here's a pro tip:
If Google Maps says a route takes 15 minutes by bike,
factor in at least 20 minutes or more to account for renting and other preparations.
it's a good idea to estimate your 🍯 time!

Since you'll need to park your bike at designated spots,
🍯 Always check in advance if there's parking available near your destination!

🍯 And as you ride along the Seine River,
the bike paths and car lanes
are completely separated,
which makes cycling so much smoother and safer!

When you rent a bike, you absolutely *have* to try this route! *.*

🍯 If you're new to cycling, practice beforehand!
If it's your first time riding a bike
or if you're new to electric bikes,
I recommend trying it out in a park or a wide-open space once
before renting one.

Even though I know how to ride a bike,
because it was an electric bike, it was heavy + a little difficult to balance,
so I was a bit scared at first ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ

I rented a bike and even dropped it twice,
and had a bit of a struggle, haha...
but it was so useful for traveling those in-between distances –
Lime bikes in Paris!
Many tourists use them, so
let's hop on a bike, cruise along the Seine, and truly feel like a Parisian!

Lime is operated by a private company, and its usage fees are generally higher than Vélib'. Parking is allowed in designated areas visible on the app. Vélib', on the other hand, is publicly operated by the City of Paris, has relatively lower fees, and requires parking only in specific docking stations.
First, install the Lime app and purchase your desired pass. Next, find a nearby bike on the map within the app, scan its QR code, and the rental will be complete.
Lime bikes must be parked in designated parking zones marked with a 'P' in the app. After parking, tap 'End Ride' in the app and take a photo to complete the return process.
Since Lime bikes are electric, the bikes themselves can be heavy and challenging to balance. Therefore, if you are a first-time user or not familiar with electric bikes, it's advisable to practice in a park or a wide-open space beforehand.
