Hello, it's Moarang here! :)
For my recent 1-night, 2-day trip to Tsushima Island,
I hopped on board the Panstar Tsushima Link ferry!
From booking the Tsushima ferry to my full boarding experience,
I'll share all the details of my actual experience, exactly as it happened!!
How to Book the Tsushima Link Ferry
I searched on Naver and found
one of the official booking agents for the Tsushima Link ferry,
TNT Busan, where I made my reservation.

They also offer a fantastic free luggage storage service!!
Seriously, luggage storage is an unexpected gem when traveling Tsushima.
There are so many places where it's inconvenient to drag your bags around,
so being able to leave your luggage and travel light is wonderful! :)

Boarding Pass Issuance Guide

You can get your boarding pass at the Panstar Cruise counter at your departure port on the day of travel.
Self-check-in is also available at the kiosks!
For the 08:40 AM departure from Busan,
ticket issuance begins at 07:10 AM and closes at 08:10 AM.
For KTX passengers arriving in Busan before 8:00 AM,
if you inform the travel agency when booking,
they can often extend the boarding pass issuance time for you ^_^
I actually took the KTX and boarded the ferry on the same day,
and using this method made it so much more convenient!!
🔽I've written a separate post about my same-day KTX boarding experience🔽
Services Aboard the Tsushima Link Ferry
The Tsushima Link ferry offers some really thoughtful services.
Their duty-free item storage service allows you to
pick up duty-free items purchased on board during your departure
on your return journey.
👉🏻 Check out the Panstar Online Duty-Free Shop here
You can just pick up your items on your way back after shopping in Tsushima,
which means fewer luggage worries and extra convenience! :)
They also run an onboard duty-free shop with some of the lowest prices in Korea,
where you can find goods from mainland Japan that aren't available on Tsushima,
along with premium alcoholic beverages! :)

An onboard currency exchange service is also available,
which is perfect if you didn't get a chance to exchange your currency for Japanese Yen beforehand!
Carry-on Baggage Regulations

Since it's not an airplane, there are no 100ml liquid restrictions!!
This is definitely one of the biggest perks of taking the ferry! :)
Here are the general baggage standards:

Size: Sum of three dimensions 158cm or less
Weight: 20kg or less
Quantity: Maximum 3 per person
(2 free + additional permitted items)
Small bags like handbags and cross-body bags
are considered additional permitted items, so they are free.
However, please note that backpacks or golf bags
are treated as general luggage.
From the 3rd piece of luggage onwards, an additional fee applies:
it's ~$7 in Korea and 1,000 JPY in Japan.
For those who wish to bring bicycles or fishing gear,
these items are only permitted with a phone reservation,
so please inquire with your travel agency in advance when making your booking.
Electric/motorized bicycles are absolutely not permitted!!

Economy vs. Premium Seats
The Tsushima Link ferry offers
two types of seats: Economy and Premium.

The interior feels like standard airplane economy seats,
and I rode in economy class this time.
Given it's about a 1 hour 10 minute journey on the Hitakatsu route,
I felt it was perfectly comfortable.
Since the journey is just over an hour,
honestly, I wasn't uncomfortable at all in economy class :)
However, for the route to Izuhara,
which takes 2 hours 40 minutes,
I'd probably consider premium seats haha.

Premium seats feature recliner seats,
and a big advantage is being able to disembark first!!

There was a space onboard to store large luggage like this ^^

Boarding Time

There was something interesting that happened.
On the way there, we were scheduled to depart at 08:40 AM,
but since all passengers boarded early,
we ended up departing at 08:20 AM, LOL!
The same thing happened on the way back.
We were scheduled to depart at 05:10 PM,
but we left at 04:50 PM,
and arrived at Busan Port at 06:10 PM.

It seems that if all passengers board,
they depart earlier than the scheduled time.
Worried About Seasickness?

When I went this time, the waves were quite calm.
I don't usually get seasick, so
it wasn't a problem for me at all, but one of my companions mentioned
feeling a little motion sickness.
The Tsushima Link is currently the largest high-speed ferry
operating to Tsushima, making it relatively stable in waves.
However, if you're prone to seasickness, I recommend taking motion sickness medication
before boarding!!
Taking it after you've already boarded might be too late :)
Immigration Procedures
Even though it was a weekend, the immigration process at Busan Port
finished surprisingly quickly.
There were no significant delays, so I passed through without any hassle :)
Immigration at Hitakatsu Port took about 15 minutes.
The port itself is incredibly charming and small.

Don't imagine a large-scale airport;
it's more like a quaint, rural port, which is a perfect description haha.
Still, 15 minutes isn't too long,
so I was able to start my Tsushima trip quickly :)
