Pain Maison Ginza: Tokyo's Original Salt Bread Bakery Review
Uncover the secret behind Tokyo's legendary salt bread at Pain Maison Ginza, the original home of shio pan. Learn essential tips for navigating queues and savoring this authentic Japanese treat.
It's different, truly on another level!
Tokyo Salt Bread?
It's really, truly different...
I recently visited Pan Maison's Ginza branch,,🤎
the place said to be the original Tokyo Shio-pan spot.
Of course, Pan Maison has several branches,
so you can really go to any of them, but
when it's the 'original,' doesn't everyone feel the pull to visit the *very* first one?
That's just human nature, right?

I arrived before 1 PM on a weekday, and

which I didn't think was too bad for a wait!

✅️Pan Maison Ginza Branch Guidelines✅️
Please form a single line inside the building and within the shop.
No queuing past the 'Do Not Enter' signs.
No littering inside the building.
Do not touch mailboxes or building fixtures.
No parking in front of the building.
No eating or drinking inside or outside the building.
That's quite a list of 'don'ts,' but
they're all pretty basic courtesies, aren't they?

Pan Maison makes online queuing easy with a QR code!
Here's a pro-tip for waiting at Pan Maison Ginza!
Because your time is precious, dear explorers! ❤️
Make sure to get your queue number in advance,
and then head over when it's your turn!

I couldn't find the QR code in advance, so I ended up with 23 groups ahead of me, but
that's totally a manageable wait, right? 😉
(After confirming your waiting number, you can join the queue inside the building.)

Beware of pigeons gathering for bread crumbs! ‼️

Salt Bread Menu & Prices

Waiting? I actually love it!
It gives you extra time to decide on your bread choices!

This place is practically a bread factory!
The Pan Maison staff are diligently baking and packaging bread,
working tirelessly!

Just look at the amazing skill of this staff member, showcasing their 'double-tongs' technique!

The size of these salt breads is just overwhelming!

There's even a limit on how many you can buy per person!

Basic Salt Bread 120 yen
Is it true it's even less than ~$1?
Seriously, salt bread back home, you've got some catching up to do!
Melon Salt Bread
Truffle Salt Bread
Sweet Potato Salt Bread 190 yen
Mini Loaf Bread 220 yen
You can even enjoy them like sandwiches, with
Ham & Cheese, Ham & Egg, Cream, and Anko Butter fillings.
Even the most expensive item is just 240 yen...
Meaning you can enjoy it for just over ~$1.
Seriouslyㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ A basic salt bread back home is way over ~$1...
Our prices in Korea...
If you go to Tokyo, you *have* to eat lots of salt bread!
(Fill your suitcase with them!)

Mentaiko Salt Bread is also 220 yen

They put the cold cream items in separate bags,
each individually wrapped for easy eating and distinguishing.
The bags feel heavy, right?
That means I bought a lot! 💚
(And still so incredibly cheap!)
I couldn't resist,
so I ate them on the street.
And to avoid giving any to the pigeons,
I didn't drop a single crumb!
It might not be a 'holy grail' level delicious salt bread,
and of course, there are probably many, many more delicious salt breads out there than what you'll find here...
But for this price and this quality of salt bread,
the crispy and chewy texture is amazing,
there's no reason not to buy them!
Even when I saved some to eat the next day,
they were still delicious – Pain Maison's salt breads!
