Experience Kyoto in Style: Onyado Nono Kyoto Shichijo Ryokan Hotel Review

When planning our recent trip to Kyoto, we wanted to make our final night extra special.
We were searching for a traditional ryokan atmosphere but with all the modern comforts of a hotel,
and that is how we found
Onyado Nono Kyoto Shichijo Natural Hot Springs.
To give you the short version:
"I honestly just want to stay in the hotel all day" was all we could say.
It was an incredibly satisfying ryokan-style stay in Kyoto.

Out of our 3-night stay in Kyoto,
we spent the first two nights in a budget hotel,
and saved this masterpiece for our final night to fully unwind.
Just a 5-Minute Walk from Kyoto Station – Unbeatable Location
📍 Onyado Nono Kyoto Shichijo Natural Hot Springs
491 Zaimokucho, Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto, 600-8146 Japan
📍 Kyoto Station
Higashishiokoji Kamadonocho, Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto, Japan
📍 Shichijo Station
Shimohorizumecho, Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto, Japan
Onyado Nono Kyoto Shichijo is located
just a 5 to 7-minute walk from the Central Exit of Kyoto Station,
making it super easy to access even with heavy luggage.
✔ Plenty of convenient stores and local restaurants nearby
✔ Super close to Kyoto Station (Location B, 6-minute walk)
✔ Shichijo Station is within walking distance (Location C, 8-minute walk)
The location alone is enough reason to book this hotel!
Step into a Tatami Oasis: A Fully Barefoot Hotel

The coolest feature of this hotel is that
you take off your shoes right at the main entrance.
The staff wipes down your suitcase wheels at the door,
and the entire hotel floor is covered in traditional tatami mats,
giving you the feeling of entering a grand Japanese estate.

Walking around in socks without stiff slippers
felt incredibly clean and refreshing.
Our child loved the novelty of it and was absolutely thrilled!
Room Tour: Traditional Japanese Charm Meets Modern Hotel Comfort

We stayed in a Triple Room.
Unlike typical compact Japanese hotels,
it was incredibly spacious and comfortable.
✔ Tatami flooring makes it safe and easy for kids to play around
✔ Warm wooden tones create a cozy, inviting atmosphere
✔ Traditional bath baskets and comfortable lounge wear provided
✔ Dedicated kids' amenities offered at check-in

While it's not a strict, high-end traditional ryokan,
it captures the ryokan atmosphere beautifully
while offering all the convenient amenities of a modern hotel.
It’s the ultimate sweet spot for a family trip!
The Crown Jewel: Natural Hot Spring Baths (Onsen)

The number one reason we booked Onyado Nono Kyoto Shichijo was their
natural hot spring public baths (onsen).
The women's bath requires a secure passcode for entry, so safety is top-notch.
The variety of baths was amazing:
✔ Hinoki (cypress) bath ✔ Ceramic pot baths
✔ Silk bath ✔ Rock bath ✔ Meditation bath ✔ Dry sauna

The hinoki and meditation baths actually use
real, natural hot spring water transported directly from the famous Nose area in Osaka.
It felt like an "onsen theme park" right inside our hotel!
Incredible Post-Bath Freebies!

Another reason this hotel chain is so wildly popular is
their generous complimentary services:
✔ Afternoon/Evening: Free ice cream bars after your bath
✔ Morning: Free probiotic Yakult drinks
✔ 9:00 PM – 11:00 PM: Free Yonaki Soba (hot soy-sauce ramen)
The hot ramen was the perfect late-night comfort food,
and they even have high-end massage chairs you can use for free.
It’s pure bliss!
Don't Skip the Breakfast Buffet! (Highly Recommended)
At around ~$16 per person, we hesitated slightly at first, but looking back,
booking the breakfast is an absolute must.
I can confidently say this is easily
in my Top 3 hotel breakfasts of all time!

✔ Kyoto-style specialty Yuba (tofu skin) dishes ✔ Freshly fried, crispy tempura
✔ Unlimited Ikura (salmon roe)!!
✔ DIY seafood rice bowls (Kaisen-don) ✔ A massive variety of traditional Japanese side dishes
The quality and selection were incredible.
My husband was in heaven with the unlimited salmon roe,
and our child couldn't get enough of the freshly fried tempura!

The dining hall is spacious, and even during peak breakfast hours,
the seating rotation was quick and seamless.
