2. Onomichi Coin Locker Prices by Size
1️⃣ Station Interior Lockers (Outside Ticket Gate)

The best place to store your luggage is the luggage storage inside Onomichi Station itself! Located in the waiting area next to the ticket gate, it's immediately accessible upon exiting the train, so you won't have to wander around. However, since it's a small city that draws many tourists from various countries, spaces apparently fill up surprisingly quickly.
Size | Price |
Extra Large | 1,000 yen |
Large | 800 yen |
Medium | 600 yen |
Small | 400 yen |

Payment Methods
Cash / IC Transportation Card
For your typical carry-on luggage, you'll probably want a medium or large locker.

They even have Korean pamphlets at the tourist information center, so I made sure to grab one!
2️⃣ Station Interior Lockers (Inside Ticket Gate)

What if you've come out and there are no available lockers?! Don't panic! I recommend using the coin lockers on the platform inside the station. If you look at the photo on the top right, it indicates there are also storage lockers on Platform 1 inside the station, and you should speak to a station attendant to access them.
And get this – it also mentioned that you can store your luggage at Yamato Transport, right in the Hondori Shopping Street.

You'll need to go through the ticket gate, past the restrooms, and a little further in to find these coin lockers.

They say this spot has more large lockers than the area outside the ticket gates. If you're planning to take a train again after sightseeing, it might be a good idea to just use these lockers from the start.
Size | Price |
Large | 800 yen |
Medium | 600 yen |
Small | 400 yen |

Payment Methods
Cash / IC Transit Card

You can use both cash and IC cards. The small size is just enough for a simple carry-on bag. I tried holding up my umbrella to give you an idea of the size, but it might not be all that helpful... haha.

You must pay the usage fee in advance on the screen

If your transit card is low on funds, you'll find machines like these near the ticket gate entrance to top it up.
3️⃣ Apaman Shop Lockers (Right in Front of the Station)

Exit Onomichi Station, look across the street, and it's immediately visible to your left.

Size | Price |
Large | 700 yen |
Medium | 500 yen |
Small | 300 yen |
It's only a 2-minute walk from the station, so not far at all, and it's a bit cheaper than the lockers inside the station. You can use both cash and IC cards, and it's open 24 hours, making it super convenient!
If the lockers inside and outside the station are all full, I think this would be the next best place to check.

4️⃣ Hondori Shopping Street Entrance

Most people visiting Onomichi definitely make their way to the Hondori Shopping Street. Right at the entrance, you'll find a shop run by a lovely Japanese grandmother.
When you drop off your belongings, you'll receive a ticket with a locker number.
Size | Price |
Small items | 500 yen |
Large items (suitcases) | 800 yen |
3. Recommended Luggage Storage by Situation
Travel Situation | Recommended Spot | Reason |
Arriving & Sightseeing Immediately | JR Onomichi Station | Easiest flow for moving around |
Large Suitcases | Inside the Station, Platform 1 | Plenty of large lockers available |
Station Lockers Full | In front of Apaman Shop | Close to the station & 24 hours |
Budget-Friendly | Yamato Transport | Affordable price (500 yen) |
First and foremost, the most recommended spots are the two locations inside the station building. If you're arriving by bus from Hiroshima city, I recommend the lockers outside the station building; for those coming by train, the ones on the platform are your best bet.

Next up is the Apaman Shop locker in front of the station, followed by the shop run by a Japanese grandmother in the Hondori shopping arcade.
What if you've tried all these places and still can't find a spot for your luggage?! Then you might want to consider even the Kuroneko Yamato delivery service!
4. Do coin lockers really fill up that quickly?
I've heard reviews that on crowded days, even the lockers next to the station and Apaman Shop were full.

📌 The owner's personal opinion
If you book accommodation near Onomichi Station, you can leave your luggage at the hotel, so you won't have to worry about it at all.
Most people do day trips, and I often hear that some are disappointed because they don't find much to enjoy. But to truly soak in the charm of this small town, I'd gently recommend staying for about one night.
Honestly, it's quite a distance from Hiroshima city, being on the opposite side, so it feels like such a waste to come all this way and not ride a bicycle 😭
Just renting a bike, putting it on a ferry, and cycling for half a day on an island while gazing at the sea is pure happiness itself 🩵

5. Onomichi Travel Luggage Storage Tips
It's a good idea to check your travel dates for Japanese public holidays, long weekends, or festivals like Hanabi (🎆fireworks, scheduled for July 25, 2026) or Becchamatsuri (around November 3 every year), as these days attract a lot of people.
I've summarized some things to check when using coin lockers below.
Things to check in advance |
✔ Drop off large suitcases first thing in the morning ✔ Prepare coins in case of cash-only lockers ✔ Consider your retrieval path for lockers inside the ticket gates ✔ Don't lose your storage receipt or password ✔ Check the usage end time before retrieving your luggage ✔ Check dates for long weekends/public holidays/festivals |
The most important thing to be careful about is
your storage receipt or numbered ticket,
make sure not to lose it..!

At the Apaman Shop's
coin locker storage,
if you lose your storage receipt,
it says they charge a release fee of 5,000 yen...
For someone like me who often loses things,
I always start worrying whenever I get something like that.. haha.
Put it deep inside your bag!!
