Occidental Barcelona 1929 Review 2026: Value Near Plaza Espanya
Discover Occidental Barcelona 1929, a fantastic value hotel just steps from Plaza Espanya. Enjoy a prime location for airport transfers, Montjuïc, and city tours, all in a clean, comfortable setting.
Your Go-To Barcelona Hotel: Great Value Near Plaza Espanya
Choosing the perfect hotel in Barcelona often boils down to two things: location and price. Catalunya Plaza is super convenient but can be pricey, while staying too far out means constant travel hassles. This time, I'm excited to share my review of the Occidental Barcelona 1929 hotel.
Being right next to Plaza Espanya made airport transfers a breeze, and Montjuïc Fountain was just a short stroll away, making our travel plans incredibly smooth. Especially considering Barcelona's general costs, this hotel offered fantastic value for its room condition and cleanliness.
1. Unbeatable Location Right by Plaza Espanya
📍 Hotel Occidental Barcelona 1929
Carrer Creu Coberta, 20-22, Sants-Montjuïc, 08014 Barcelona, Spain

The location was hands down the best part of our stay at Occidental Barcelona 1929.
The hotel is literally next door to Plaza Espanya; you can see the square as soon as you step outside. There's a local bus stop right in front of the hotel and a metro station nearby, making it super easy to explore other parts of the city.
If you're using the airport bus, staying near Plaza Espanya is just as convenient as Catalunya Plaza. No need to drag your luggage through complicated alleyways, and your arrival from the airport is straightforward.

Plus, if your tours depart from Plaza Espanya, this location is gold. For early morning excursions like Montserrat tours, day trips, or private car tours, having your accommodation close to the meeting point is an absolute game-changer. While not all tours depart from here, my Montserrat and Sitges tour did, which meant no rushing in the morning – a huge win!
Montjuïc Fountain is also just a 10-minute walk away! This means you can easily enjoy the late-night fountain show without worrying about a long trek back to your hotel.
Sants Station is also a 10-minute walk, making this a great spot for those traveling by train.
2. Compact Yet Spotlessly Clean Rooms

I stayed in the standard Superior Double Room. To be honest, the room size was a bit on the smaller side. There was enough space on either side of the bed to lay out one suitcase, but it felt more snug than spacious. If you're traveling with two large suitcases and plan to keep them open, movement might be a little restricted.
However, the room itself was exceptionally clean. It featured a large wall-mounted TV, a small table with a capsule coffee machine and an electric kettle, and a safe and mini-fridge next to the bed.

The wardrobe wasn't a separate large piece of furniture but rather a built-in hanging space along the wall. It was perfect for hanging a few days' worth of clothes, and the space below was convenient for standing suitcases or other luggage.
The view from the room wasn't anything special – mostly a street view. This isn't a hotel you book for the views. However, the cleanliness and bedding comfort, which are crucial for any stay, were absolutely satisfactory. Considering Barcelona's higher prices, I think this room condition offers excellent value.

The bathroom was also impeccably clean. One of the reasons I highly rated this hotel was the spotless condition of both the room and the bathroom. The shower stall was spacious, not at all cramped, and the shower amenities were provided in large, wall-mounted dispensers – a common approach in European hotels these days.
A shower cap, comb, shaving kit, and dental kit were neatly arranged under the sink, and a hairdryer was also available. The basic necessities are well-covered, so you likely won't need to pack much for a short trip.
For an arbitrary date in 2026, the price for a basic room per night is approximately as follows:
Platform | 1-Night Price |
~$115 | |
~$115 | |
~$115 |
3. Breakfast and Other Facilities

I tried breakfast one morning, and I'd say it was decent but not overly lavish. It offered the basics, but if breakfast is a major factor for you, I'd recommend checking recent reviews before booking.
If the price difference between including and excluding breakfast is significant, consider grabbing a light bite at one of the many charming cafes nearby.
Although I didn't use them, the hotel also has facilities like a swimming pool and a gym. This hotel feels best suited for travelers who spend their days exploring and just want a clean, comfortable place to rest at night, rather than those looking for a resort-style stay.

📌 Who This Hotel Is For:
I'd recommend Occidental Barcelona 1929 to travelers who:
- Want a clean, comfortable hotel without breaking the bank.
- Prioritize easy access to airport transportation.
- Plan to take day trips or tours departing from Plaza Espanya.
- Enjoy evening strolls to attractions like Montjuïc Fountain.
- Need convenient access to Sants Station for train travel.
Conversely, you might want to consider other locations if:
- You prefer being right in the heart of the main tourist shopping areas and attractions by foot.
- You require extremely spacious rooms for multiple large suitcases.
- A lavish, extensive breakfast buffet is a top priority.

4. Plaza Catalunya vs. Plaza Espanya: A Comparison

Category | Pros | Cons |
Near Plaza Catalunya | Great for Gothic Quarter, Las Ramblas, and shopping routes | Higher accommodation prices, can be very crowded |
Near Plaza Espanya | Convenient for airport bus, Montjuïc Fountain, tour departures, and Sants Station | Requires travel to reach central shopping areas and major tourist spots |
For first-time visitors to Barcelona, it's easy to assume Plaza Catalunya is the only right answer for accommodation. However, when you factor in airport transfers and tour logistics, staying near Plaza Espanya is a perfectly excellent choice.
Occidental Barcelona 1929, especially, benefits from its prime location right on Plaza Espanya. If you're looking for an
