Nusa Penida Tour Review 2026: Essential Packing List & Pricing

Famous for its crystal-clear turquoise waters and dramatic coastal cliffs,

Nusa Penida Island

is one of Bali's most spectacular destinations.

Although it requires a bit of travel from mainland Bali,

the jaw-dropping views make it a highly recommended addition to any itinerary.

Here is my honest Nusa Penida tour review to help you plan your perfect island escape!

1. How to Get There

Getting to Nusa Penida can be quite a journey.

You need to travel from your hotel to Sanur Harbor,

take a fast boat for about 50 minutes,

and then navigate the island's famously rugged roads to reach the main sights.

Because of the complex logistics and bumpy roads, DIY travel here can be incredibly stressful.

That is why booking a guided tour is highly recommended.

You can choose between a shared group tour or a private tour.

I opted for a Private Tour (typically ranging from ~$45 to ~$65 per person).

While it is slightly more expensive, having our own vehicle meant

we could adjust boat times, spend extra time at our favorite spots,

and enjoy a completely flexible, stress-free itinerary.

2. The Nusa Penida Experience

Our adventure began with a prompt hotel pickup at around 6:00 AM.

The air-conditioned car was incredibly comfortable,

allowing us to catch up on sleep during the drive to Sanur Harbor.

Our driver handled all the boat ticketing and check-in processes seamlessly,

saving us from the chaotic harbor crowds. They even provided bottled water for the trip.

Note: Your mainland driver will guide you to the boat, and a local island driver will greet you upon arrival in Nusa Penida.

The boat ride to Nusa Penida is notorious for being rough.

Even on a relatively calm day, the fast boat swayed significantly.

If you are prone to motion sickness, taking medication beforehand is an absolute must!

Once we landed on Nusa Penida, our local guide was waiting for us.

Traveling in our private vehicle felt like a customized road trip.

We could take restroom breaks whenever we wanted and explore the coastline at our own pace.

The island has several famous viewpoints, but the road to Angel's Billabong is incredibly rugged.

I didn't get seasick on the boat, but the bumpy car ride definitely tested my stomach! 🫠

Angel's Billabong is a stunning natural infinity pool.

The emerald water is incredibly clear, contrasting beautifully with the rough ocean waves

crashing against the volcanic rock formations right next to it.

It truly lives up to its heavenly name.

Our guide was an amazing photographer! He actively took photos for us

and even stood in line at the busy photo spots while we explored nearby,

calling us over when it was our turn. It made the trip so much easier.

Please note that the rocks here are sharp, jagged, and highly uneven.

One wrong step could result in a nasty scrape or injury.

I highly discourage wearing long flowing skirts, dragging pants, or cheap flip-flops.

Opt for secure hiking sandals or thick-soled slides instead.

The crown jewel of Nusa Penida is undoubtedly Kelingking Beach.

Famous for its cliff formation that resembles a T-Rex or an elephant,

the view of the turquoise water clashing against the white sands is absolutely awe-inspiring.

Honestly, seeing this view alone made the entire trip worth it.

Our guide captured gorgeous photos of us here while we soaked in the dramatic scenery.

For lunch, we stopped at a local buffet restaurant included in our tour.

While the selection wasn't massive, it featured classic Indonesian dishes

like Mie Goreng (fried noodles), chicken, fresh salad, and shrimp crackers.

Mie Goreng is always a crowd-pleaser! To be safe, I stuck to the bottled water provided

earlier rather than drinking the tap water here.

Pro-tip: The restaurant's restrooms are free to use. Definitely use them here

instead of paying for public restrooms at the tourist sights!

After lunch, many visitors opt to go snorkeling at Crystal Bay, famous for its clear waters.

Unfortunately, I had an evening massage booked back on mainland Bali, so we had to skip it. 🥲

If you plan on visiting, I highly recommend keeping your evening completely free until 6:00 PM

so you can enjoy the island at a relaxed pace.

After wrapping up, we headed back to the harbor, boarded the fast boat to Sanur,

and met our original driver who drove us comfortably back to our hotel while we napped.

3. Essential Packing List

Here is a quick checklist of what to pack for your Nusa Penida adventure:

Sunscreen, sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and small cash (IDR)

If you plan on snorkeling: a change of clothes, swimwear, and a travel towel

Don't forget motion sickness pills if you are sensitive to rough boat rides or bumpy roads!

For outfit choices, comfortable shorts and sturdy walking sandals are highly recommended.

Nusa Penida offers a completely different vibe compared to the lush jungles of Ubud.

With its dramatic cliffs, pristine beaches, and wild coastal scenery,

it is an absolute must-visit during your Bali vacation.
