Nusa Penida Day Tour
Itinerary & Packing List for Your Bali Trip
Words & Photos ⓒ Bbangeuni
On the very last day of my Bali vacation,
I squeezed in a day trip to Nusa Penida-!!
It still feels like a relatively hidden gem,
and the scenery was so incredibly stunning
that I kept asking myself, "How am I just finding out about this place?" ♥
From the itinerary and packing essentials to an honest review,
I'm breaking down everything you need to know for your Nusa Penida tour!

3. What to Pack |
4. Booking Information |

Nusa Penida is an island located southeast of Bali.
You can reach it by taking a fast boat from the Bali mainland,
which takes about 40 minutes.

Because it hasn't been overly developed yet,
it retains its raw, untouched natural beauty.
With its unique topography and overwhelming landscapes,
it's an absolute must-visit for nature lovers! ♥

‼️ Booking a guided tour for Nusa Penida is highly recommended.
There are no taxis or public transportation, and the terrain is incredibly rugged,
making renting a scooter quite dangerous for most visitors-!
I booked my trip through KKDAY!
I chose a highly-rated private tour with excellent reviews,
and it was the perfect way to experience the island in a single day.
It included round-trip transport, an English-speaking driver, bottled water,
and the Nusa Penida local tax.
For our group of 5, it came out to just ~$38 per person, which was an amazing deal-!
(I'll share a discount code at the bottom of this post~!)

The best part about a private tour
is the convenient hotel pick-up and drop-off!
Our driver arrived right on time at our hotel,
and we comfortably made our way to Sanur Port-!
We used the same vehicle for our return trip as well.

Even though the port was quite chaotic,
our driver guided us seamlessly and handed us over to the boat staff.
Despite it being our first time, we boarded without any confusion.

The fast boat ride from Sanur Port to Nusa Penida
takes about 40 minutes.
Luckily, the currents weren't too rough on the day we went,
but if you're prone to seasickness, definitely take medication beforehand.

Upon arriving at the Nusa Penida pier,
we were greeted by our guide holding a sign with my name.
He acted as both our driver and tour guide for the day!

Since it was a private tour,
we had the vehicle entirely to ourselves.
Not having to wait on a large group meant we could take our time
and enjoy the sights at our own pace, which was fantastic-!

Nusa Penida is generally divided into the East and West sides.
Because doing both in one day is too rushed,
most tours focus on one side.
You select West or East when booking.
We opted to explore the iconic West side.
📍 West Nusa Penida Tour Itinerary |
Sanur Port → Nusa Penida Port → Kelingking Beach → Lunch → Angel's Billabong → Broken Beach → Crystal Bay → Nusa Penida Port |
Since it was our last day in Bali,
we had to keep a steady pace,
but the private nature of the tour allowed us to adjust the route.
We decided to head to Angel's Billabong first.

Our first stop was Angel's Billabong.
True to its name,
it's a breathtaking natural infinity pool.
The water was so crystal clear you could see straight to the bottom-!
(Swimming used to be allowed here, but it has recently been prohibited for safety.)

Our second stop, Broken Beach,
is located right next to Angel's Billabong.
The massive cliff featuring a natural archway is absolutely epic..!
The contrast of the turquoise water against the rugged rocks felt so magical.
Photos honestly don't do this place justice.

The final major stop was the famous T-Rex shaped cliff, Kelingking Beach-!
This is the spot you see in every Nusa Penida search,
and it leaves you speechless in person!! So beautiful 🩵
Looking down at the emerald ocean from the top is mesmerizing.
We even ran into a monkey here >.< You're my cover photo now!

It can be tricky to get a good photo with the crowds, but our guide
knew exactly where the best photo spots were
and enthusiastically snapped pictures for us-!

One slight bummer was an abandoned structure
from a failed elevator project meant to bring tourists down to the beach,
which is now just an eyesore on the cliffside,,ㅇㅂㅇ
If only that wasn't there, it would be 100% pristine nature..ㅠ

Originally, lunch was scheduled before Kelingking Beach,
but we powered through our itinerary and ate afterward.
It was a buffet-style meal, and we bought some cold Cokes to go with it.
The lunch itself is included in the tour price.

We headed back to the port to catch our return boat.
We were handed our lanyards and a QR code to show when boarding.
Back in Bali, we met up with the same driver from the morning
who safely dropped us off at our hotel. Tour complete!

☑️ Packing List
Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, motion sickness medication,
bug repellent, small cash (for restroom use),
If snorkeling: swimwear, towel, personal snorkel gear

If you're sensitive to motion like I am, motion sickness pills are a MUST!
The waves weren't too bad on the day I went,
but the strait is known for strong currents,,!
Also, driving around Nusa Penida involves
winding mountain roads and some seriously bumpy, unpaved paths,
so the medication will definitely save your stomach.

The sun is incredibly intense here, so bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat
to protect yourself from the rays-!
I didn't apply my sunscreen thoroughly and ended up roasting my shoulders and chest lol
For footwear, sturdy sandals were perfectly fine,
and I saw plenty of people walking around in flip-flops or Crocs.
Lastly, if your tour includes snorkeling,
don't forget your swimwear, a towel, and your own gear if you prefer :)
Here are some discount codes you can use on KKDAY,
where I booked my tour-! Make sure to use them for your trip~♥

The emerald waters that looked like spilled paint
and the dramatic natural cliffs made this place unforgettable~
Above all, having a private air-conditioned vehicle
made the hot weather so much more bearable. Highly satisfied!
If you're planning your Bali itinerary,
I strongly suggest adding a Nusa Penida tour to your list!

This tour cost ~$33 per person when used by 5 people. This price includes round-trip transportation, an English-speaking driver, bottled water, and the Nusa Penida local tax.
It takes approximately 40 minutes by boat from Sanur Port to Nusa Penida Port. If you tend to get seasick, it's a good idea to bring motion sickness medication in advance.
The West tour itinerary involves traveling from Sanur Port to Nusa Penida Port, then visiting Kelingking Beach, having lunch, Angel's Billabong, Broken Beach, and Crystal Bay, before returning to Nusa Penida Port. The author visited Angel's Billabong first.
Yes, Nusa Penida has strong currents, and when traveling by vehicle on the island, you'll be on winding and bumpy mountain roads. Therefore, motion sickness medication is essential if you experience seasickness or car sickness.
In the past, swimming was possible at Angel's Billabong, but it is reportedly prohibited recently. You can still see the clear water where the bottom is visible.
