Tokyo is an incredibly safe and dynamic urban destination,
making it a top choice for solo travelers worldwide.
However, if you're traveling alone, your biggest concern
is likely going to be the cost of accommodation.
With the recent surge in tourism in 2026, hotel prices in Tokyo
have skyrocketed, almost rivaling major European cities.
When I was planning my solo trip to Tokyo in January 2026,
I was genuinely stressed by the exorbitant room rates.
Today, I want to share my experience staying over a weekend
(Saturday to Sunday, typically the most expensive days)
at a surprisingly cost-effective gem:
Nishitetsu Inn Shinjuku!
First, let's dive into the basic details of Nishitetsu Inn.

located right in front of Nishi-Shinjuku Station.
At around ~$154 per night,
it's highly reasonable compared to Shinjuku's usual steep prices.
Looking at the map,
it's also within walking distance of Shinjuku Station and Nishi-guchi Station,
making it a breeze to travel to other neighborhoods or take day trips.
Just a short walk east brings you to a vibrant restaurant district and Kabukicho,
making it incredibly easy to grab a late-night bite or visit an authentic izakaya.
Despite being so close to the nightlife, the hotel sits on a well-lit main road,
ensuring excellent safety and peace of mind!

Next, let me show you the lobby and the check-in process.
Having been remodeled in March 2017,
the lobby feels spacious, modern, and very clean.
Check-in is done via self-service kiosks
that support English, so you won't have any issues.
Plus, if you run into any trouble, friendly staff members
are stationed right there to assist you.
You can grab your amenities from a self-service bar in the lobby.
Razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, and body towels
are all freely available for guests.
One minor downside was the lack of single-use
skincare items like cleansing oil.
I highly recommend packing your own facial wash and skincare routine.
Now, let's talk about the single room I stayed in.
I was assigned a non-smoking room on the 4th floor,
located down a long, quiet hallway.
The room features a simple layout with a bed, table, and a small sofa.
For a solo traveler, it felt surprisingly spacious.
What I loved most was that despite being a single room,
it came with a double-sized bed.
It was plush and so comfortable that I drifted off immediately after a long day of exploring.
Having a small table and sofa was a nice touch.
It made eating late-night convenience store snacks so much easier.
Since the furniture isn't bolted down,
you can easily shift things around to create more space.
The room had an L-shaped layout providing decent floor space.
I brought a 24-inch suitcase,
and there was plenty of room to lay it completely flat without blocking the walkway.
In-room amenities included an electric kettle, cups,
a robe, and a mini-fridge.
Bottled water isn't provided, but a sign notes that
the tap water in the bathroom is perfectly safe to drink.
The view wasn't bad either!
Even though I was on a lower floor, the buildings opposite weren't blocking the light,
so I got to enjoy a nice slice of the Tokyo cityscape.
The bathroom is your classic
compact Japanese business hotel setup.
It efficiently packs a small tub, sink, and toilet into one space.
It has absolutely everything you need.
The best part? Having a bathtub!
After walking miles around the city, soaking in a hot bath was the ultimate way to unwind.
Bathroom amenities included body wash, shampoo, and conditioner.
Since I booked for one person, exactly
one set of towels was provided.
(And yes, there's a hair dryer too!)
Lastly, let's check out the other facilities
available at the hotel.
Certain floors have multi-purpose utility rooms
packed with handy amenities.
You'll find washers and dryers, vending machines, a microwave,
and even a water dispenser (not pictured).
These make longer stays completely hassle-free.
They also offer luggage storage before and after check-in.
It operates via self-service lockers,
which honestly feels much safer and more secure!
Overall, Nishitetsu Inn was exceptionally clean,
and despite booking a Saturday night—the priciest day of the week—
I was highly satisfied with how affordable it was.
The room had all the essential amenities,
and having a bathtub to soak in was a huge plus.
The location is unbeatable: on a safe main road,
and right next to Nishi-Shinjuku Station for easy transit.
