Nha Trang's Must-Try Charcoal Grill Spot!
Lạc Cảnh (Lac Canh)
Nha Trang is absolutely packed with famous restaurants,
but instead of the usual tourist spots,
you're probably curious about where the locals really eat, right?
When my companion and I visited, we ordered a variety of dishes,
and before we knew it, we had beef, squid, shrimp,
and even fried rice!
This local gem, Lạc Cảnh (Lac Canh), famous for its Vietnamese-style
charcoal grill, offers a fantastic experience. I'll share a review of their
menu and prices, based on our actual receipt.

1. Lạc Cảnh: Essential Info & Atmosphere
Lạc Cảnh stood out as a truly authentic local eatery, unlike the typical
tourist spots you find on a Nha Trang trip.
There weren't any staff who spoke English,
and about 90% of the customers were locals.

We didn't see a single Korean person there, which made it feel like we had truly
discovered a Nha Trang local hotspot.
Even though we used a translation app to order, the staff seemed so genuinely
kind that we felt completely at ease.

⭐ Step Inside: The Vibe at Lạc Cảnh!

Lạc Cảnh has two floors,
and we dined on the first floor.
We arrived around 6 PM for dinner,
and since it's so popular with locals,
the first floor was completely full within 20 minutes.
There's no air conditioning, just fans running,
but perhaps because the space is open, it didn't feel hot.

Since it's a charcoal grill restaurant, if it gets crowded,
there can be a lot of smoke.
Luckily, we were seated near the outside,
which was a blessing.
If smoke is a concern for you, I recommend grabbing a seat
close to the outside.
2. Menu & How to Order
⭐ Insider Tip: Order with Pictures!
Since translation can be tricky, I highly recommend showing images of the menu
items when ordering.

The menu is written in English and Vietnamese,
and there's also a separate page in Chinese.
However, there was no Korean translation.
⭐ Get Grilling: Your Own Tabletop BBQ Experience!
Beef, squid, and shrimp are served with a traditional Vietnamese charcoal grill,
allowing you to grill them yourself at your table.

When the grill plate needs to be changed, the staff will
take the entire grill unit away to swap it out,
and they'll do it automatically without you even having to ask.
⭐ What We Devoured: Our Lạc Cảnh Order!
The beef, squid, and shrimp grill items
come in half-portion sizes, which allowed us to
order a generous variety.

The prices on the menu already included VAT,
so the total on the receipt was pretty much
the same as the menu prices.
If split between two, it comes out to about 407,000 VND per person,
which is roughly ~$16 in USD.
Menu | Price (VND) | Approx. USD |
Lạc Cảnh Style Grilled Beef (half plate) | 135,000 | ~$5 |
Fresh Grilled Squid (half plate) | 135,000 | ~$5 |
Grilled Shrimp (half plate) | 135,000 | ~$5 |
Sugarcane Shrimp (4 pcs) | 160,000 | ~$6 |
Eel Dish + Rice Paper | 100,000 | ~$4 |
Garlic Fried Rice | 65,000 | ~$3 |
Vinegar Dressing Salad | 30,000 | ~$1 |
Grilled Banh Mi (2 pcs) | 20,000 | ~$1 |
Saigon Beer (2 bottles) | 28,000 | ~$1 |
Wet Wipes (2 pcs) | 6,000 | ~$0 |
Total (as per receipt) | 813,998 | ~$31 |
(The USD amounts are based on the average exchange rate for October 2026,
and may vary slightly depending on fluctuations.)
3. Lạc Cảnh Menu: A Taste Review

First, they bring out some red salt.
It has a slight aroma, but it's definitely not unappetizing.
Squeeze some lemon on it and dip your food in for a delightfully sour and salty kick!

They bring out a brazier with charcoal.
Be careful, it's hot!

The dishes we ordered started arriving one by one.
They looked authentic and absolutely delicious!
⭐ Lạc Cảnh Style Grilled Beef
(BÒ NƯỚNG LẠC CẢNH)

It's sweet and salty, seasoned with a fish sauce (nuoc mam)
that gives it a soy-sauce-like flavor, so you might detect a hint of spices.
But it definitely wasn't too strong to enjoy!

It wasn't tough at all; in fact, it was so moist and tender it practically melted in my mouth.
The key is not to overcook it!

Dipping it in the lemon-infused salt really brought out a subtle flavor, which I loved.
Just a heads up, it might be a love-it-or-leave-it kind of dish for some!
⭐ Fresh Grilled Squid
(MỰC TƯƠI NƯỚNG)

Grilling it directly over the charcoal brazier made it savory, aromatic, and delightfully chewy!

The squid's seasoning sauce wasn't too strong and had a gentle sweetness.

I didn't detect any strong spices, just a subtle hint of lemongrass.
Eating authentic local food grilled right on a brazier?
This was definitely my favorite part of the Nha Trang trip!

When we were about halfway through the grilled beef and squid,
we ordered the grilled shrimp and sugarcane shrimp.
⭐ Grilled Shrimp
(TÔM NƯỚNG)

They brought out three large prawns, and they looked incredibly fresh and were truly massive!

The grilled shrimp was decent.
It wasn't a groundbreaking flavor, just a familiar taste.
It was like the grilled shrimp you know and love.
⭐ Sugarcane Shrimp Skewers
(짜 똠 느엉 미어, CHẢ TÔM NƯỚNG MÍA)

The menu listed it as one stick for
40,000동.
Sweet chili and mayonnaise sauces
were served together in one bowl.
The sauces didn't overpower the flavor
but rather sweetly complemented it.

They said it was fine to eat as served,
but we decided to grill it a bit more.

It was so delicious that we ordered this dish twice!
It had a pleasantly peppery, slightly spicy taste,
with delightful pops of shrimp throughout.

The meaty part was moist and savory, much like a Korean tteokgalbi patty.
Although wrapped around lemongrass,
its flavor wasn't strongly present.
⭐ Eel Dish
(르언 둠, LƯƠN ĐÙM)

It tasted like the savory filling of a seafood dumpling,
without any fishiness.
You'll taste mushrooms, glass noodles, and a hint of pepper.

When eaten with the crispy rice paper, reminiscent of Korean nurungji (scorched rice),
it becomes wonderfully savory with a delightful crunch.
⭐ Salad and Garlic Fried Rice

It was tangy with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar.
With cucumber, onion, tomato, and lettuce,
it was perfect for a refreshing palate cleanser between the grilled dishes.

The garlic fried rice was exactly what it sounds like – delicious garlicky rice,
with perfectly fluffy, separate grains of rice.
⭐ Grilled Banh Mi and Iced Beer

The grilled banh mi was a spicy, sweet, and savory
baguette with a wonderfully crispy texture.
It would be fantastic to stuff it with vegetables and meat,
just like a classic banh mi.

The staff member even opened the Saigon beer bottle for me with a little nod, haha!
The staff at Lac Canh were incredibly friendly and
seemed to take extra good care of us, perhaps because we were foreigners!

The beer arrived with ice,
allowing us to enjoy a perfectly chilled 'eol-maek' (iced beer) alongside our charcoal grill feast. So refreshing!
4. Wrapping Up Our Culinary Journey
At Lac Canh, for two people, our delicious meal came to 813,998 VND,
including grilled specialties, fried rice, and refreshing beer.
If you're looking for an authentic Nha Trang local spot,
beyond the usual tourist traps, I highly recommend Lac Canh for its Vietnamese charcoal grill experience.
If you can only try one thing,
definitely go for the sugarcane shrimp skewers.
Since translation can be tricky, it's a great idea to just point to the menu image
when ordering.
