On my first day, with no strict itinerary, I embraced this philosophy, allowing my feet to guide me through the vibrant streets.
Soon enough, I stumbled upon a spot that just *felt* like a local favorite.
The kind of place where you see more residents enjoying a meal than tourists.
This was it! It seemed incredibly popular, with a steady stream of delivery orders heading out.
Interestingly, right next door was another storefront with a completely different vibe, but upon closer inspection, the Vietnamese characters on the signs were identical.
Even without knowing Vietnamese, the lettering was the same.
My guess? They've expanded due to popular demand – a sure sign of a fantastic local eatery!
Traveling freely in Nha Trang would be even more amazing if I knew Vietnamese, but with its six tones, it feels like a monumental task! Still, it's a dream of mine to learn it someday.
On this trip, I've actually gotten hooked on V-pop. I've been listening to it non-stop while writing this post. It has a fresh, unique sound, distinct from Western pop, J-pop, or Chinese music, and I find it surprisingly captivating.
(Typically, I'm the type to obsess over a song for a few days before quickly moving on!)
I'm currently obsessed with two tracks, but I'll hold off sharing them for now – don't want to suddenly turn this into a V-pop review, haha!

I settled in.

A classic characteristic of local eateries in Southeast Asia is their delightfully simple menus.
Often, you'll find just one main dish, differentiated only by size, plus a few drink options.
This place was no exception: large, small, and drinks. That's it!
The price difference between the sizes was 10,000 VND, which felt like a steal at around ~$0.35 more for the large.
Naturally, I went for the large!
The pho looked exactly as delicious as it tasted – the beef was incredibly tender, and the broth was clean and flavorful.
Before ordering, they even showed me samples of the two noodle options: wide or thin.
I opted for the wide noodles, which were perfect.
On my way out, I snapped a quick photo of the kitchen.
I noticed a mix of customers – some grabbing a quick dinner after work, others, like the family next to me, enjoying a casual meal together.
It’s not a fancy sit-down restaurant, but it's ideal for a quick, satisfying bite, or if you're tired of the usual Nha Trang 'must-try' lists.
I left feeling happily full and ready for my next discovery!
ASD Coffee
After finishing my pho at Pho Bac Dang, I barely walked a block before spotting a Nha Trang cafe with an entrance so captivating, I simply couldn't pass it by.
Seriously, it was hardly a walk at all – maybe a hundred feet!
My stomach was full, and while I initially thought about walking more, turning back to this spot would have defeated my 'wander wherever the wind takes me' philosophy for the first day.
(Especially since my first day of free travel in Nha Trang was all about following my instincts.)
So, I decided to dive right in.
Inside, the cafe perfectly echoed the charming wooden aesthetic of its exterior, adorned with a delightful collection of vintage decor.
The overall woody atmosphere and antique vibe were right up my alley.
From old cameras and lenses to vintage radios, every corner exuded a wonderful sense of nostalgia.
The main cafe area is on the first floor, but there's also a cozy, semi-private space on a mezzanine level – it felt like the perfect setting for a wine tasting!
I also noticed the second floor appeared to be a residential home, and after confirming with the staff, my suspicions were correct!
The menu was quite simple, seemingly focused entirely on drinks.
Since it was evening, coffee felt a bit late, and regular fruit juices seemed a little uninspired. So, I decided to try the carrot juice, which was listed at the top.
The staff literally pulled fresh carrots out and prepared it right in front of me!
It looked as good as it tasted – wonderfully sweet and refreshing.
If I hadn't just eaten a big bowl of pho, I would have definitely tried one of their coconut drinks or something else.
I took a panoramic shot from the mezzanine, and I couldn't help but notice the fish tank.
While not bad on its own, it felt a little out of place with the cafe's otherwise cohesive vintage aesthetic.
Earlier, thinking the menu was only drinks, I assumed it was a beverage-focused spot.
But as I was leaving, I saw a sign indicating that food items are served until 6:00 PM. The food looked promising, and I'd love to revisit during my Nha Trang trip to try it, though my schedule for the rest of my visit is pretty packed.
Right up until the very end, the cafe's charm captivated me.
