An Affordable City Gem: My Honest Review

When you're looking for accommodations in Nha Trang, you'll generally find two main areas:

luxurious resorts in Cam Ranh, closer to Nha Trang Airport, and budget-friendly hotels in the city center, about a ~40-minute drive from the airport.

Since the resorts in Cam Ranh can be quite pricey, many travelers opt for a split stay – enjoying an affordable city hotel for a few nights before indulging in a high-end Cam Ranh resort.

That's exactly what I did on my recent 5-night, 6-day trip! I spent four nights at a value-for-money city hotel and one night at a Cam Ranh resort. Today, I'm excited to share my review of the December Hotel, a fantastic city-center option that cost me around ~$36 a night.

1. December Hotel Location

The Nha Trang December Hotel is conveniently located about 25 miles from Cam Ranh Airport, roughly a 40-minute taxi ride.

It's incredibly well-situated for exploring the city. The beautiful beach is just a ~0.5-mile, 7-minute walk away, and the vibrant Nha Trang Night Market is only a ~1-mile, 13-minute stroll. Plus, you'll find an abundance of restaurants, massage parlors, and cafes right on your doorstep – making it the perfect base for your Nha Trang city adventure!

2. Check-in & Lobby

The Nha Trang December Hotel opened its doors in 2022, so it's still relatively new and modern. From the exterior to the guest rooms, it boasts a contemporary feel with just a touch of charming Southeast Asian flair. If you appreciate a clean and sleek aesthetic, this hotel comes highly recommended!

Like many international travelers, I arrived in Nha Trang late at night due to an evening departure, so my check-in was in the early hours of the morning.

While there are many budget-friendly options for half-night stays, since the December Hotel was around ~$36 a night, we opted for an early morning check-in to maximize our comfort.

3. Room Review

I stayed in a City View Double Room.

The room featured a comfortable king-size bed, and near the terrace, there was a small table with a two-seater sofa and a standing lamp. Some hotels can feel a bit dim, but I really appreciated how bright and well-lit this room was!

Basic amenities like a mini-fridge, coffee maker, coffee, and tea bags were provided. The closet also contained bathrobes, a hairdryer, a scale, and a safe. It was great to find everything I needed right in the room!

The bathroom was also spacious and very satisfying. It was well-stocked with towels, disposable toothbrush/toothpaste sets, and other essential toiletries. You'll only need to bring your personal facial cleanser and cosmetics!

4. Breakfast

Breakfast is served on the 4th floor of the December Hotel. It's a buffet-style spread, and I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of options available. I made sure to enjoy breakfast every day of my trip!

The breakfast area is spacious, offering everything from basic breads, salads, and fruits to a mix of American and Asian dishes.

5. Swimming Pool

The December Hotel boasts a fantastic rooftop pool! Located on the 26th floor, this outdoor pool offers stunning panoramic views of the Nha Trang cityscape while you swim.

While it's not a massive resort-style pool, it's an excellent amenity for a budget-friendly hotel, and I was very pleased with it! You get a great city view, and you can even catch a glimpse of the ocean from certain spots. It's truly a hidden gem!

I visited in January, which can be a bit cooler for swimming in Nha Trang, but there were still plenty of people enjoying the water from early morning.

6. Price Comparison

When I plan international trips, I always compare prices across platforms like Agoda, Trip.com, and HotelsCombined. As of September 2026, I've compared the prices for the December Hotel:

Currently, HotelsCombined offered the most competitive price! With a rooftop pool and breakfast included, plus its prime city location, getting a room for around ~$36 a night is truly incredible value. I highly recommend it for budget-conscious travelers!
