Most travelers heading to Tokyo will likely arrive at Narita International Airport. Since Narita is located in Chiba Prefecture, it's a bit of a distance from central Tokyo. The quickest and most convenient way to reach the heart of the city is undoubtedly the Keisei Skyliner.

Today, I'll walk you through how to get from Narita Airport to Ueno Station using this fantastic express service!

Booking Your Tokyo Skyliner Tickets

First, let's talk about the Tokyo Skyliner ticket prices and how to book them.

If you book a round-trip ticket between Narita Airport and Ueno via the official Skyliner website, it typically costs around 4,500 JPY. However, with current exchange rates (as of 2026), you can expect to pay approximately ~$28 for a round trip.

However, there's a way to snag tickets for a bit less than the official site – by booking through a trusted third-party travel agency.

How to Exchange Your Skyliner Ticket

Next, for those of you who've pre-booked your Tokyo Skyliner tickets like I did, I'll explain how to exchange your voucher at the airport.

After you clear immigration at Narita Airport and head towards the train platforms, you'll spot the distinctive blue Skyliner ticket counter, just like in the picture.

Exchanging your ticket here is super straightforward.

If there's a long line, don't worry – you can also use one of the self-service ticket machines nearby!

If you've pre-booked, you'll receive a mobile voucher with a QR code, as shown in the image. Simply present this QR code at the counter, and you'll get your physical ticket in no time.

A quick tip: even if you booked a round-trip, you'll only receive one QR code. Rest assured, both tickets are stored within that single QR code, so there's no need to fret!

When you exchange your voucher, the staff will usually ask if you'd like to issue your return ticket at the same time. If your return plans aren't set yet, you can simply opt for the one-way ticket to the city.

Generally, they'll assign you a suitable seat on the next available train.

As you can see from my ticket photo, my seat was already assigned to Car 4, Seat 4C. Remember, the Skyliner is an all-reserved train, so you must sit in your designated seat!

How to Board the Skyliner

Once you've got your ticket, let's dive into how to board the Skyliner and make your way to Ueno.

At Narita Airport, there are three Keisei Line services operating, but you'll need to head down to Platforms 4 or 5, clearly marked as 'Skyliner Platform.' These days, signage is excellent, with clear English instructions, so you shouldn't get confused.

The Skyliner is usually waiting at the platform. Once the orange doors open, you can board.

As I mentioned before, this is an all-reserved service, so make sure to find the seat indicated on your ticket. I found my spot in Car 4, Seat 4C, just like in the photo.

The interior of the Skyliner is quite similar to high-speed trains you might find in other countries, with a comfortable 2x2 seating arrangement and a modern aesthetic.

However, the seats are incredibly plush, and the legroom is exceptionally generous – almost double what you might expect on some other regional trains.

Even for an adult male, there's ample space to stretch out, and I could comfortably place my 20-inch carry-on in front of me. Once you're settled in, getting to Ueno Station is a breeze. It's the final stop, so you can just sit back, relax, and enjoy the approximately 40-minute ride!
