And when you do, getting from Narita Airport to central Tokyo

often means booking a Skyliner ticket.

But when it comes to booking your Skyliner ticket, are you wondering

where to find the best deal?

Nobody wants to lug heavy suitcases from Narita Airport to downtown Tokyo, making multiple subway transfers,

and you've probably heard that booking the Skyliner on the spot

is more expensive. So, is it really true?

This is my personal, tried-and-tested review of booking the Tokyo Skyliner, based on my own experience. (As of September 2026)

I've packed everything you need into this post: how to get from Narita Airport to downtown Tokyo, booking and boarding the Skyliner, where to find the absolute cheapest tickets, and a comprehensive price comparison.

⭐️ Today's Travel Difficulty ★☆☆

With everything taken care of by the bus, allowing you to explore freely at each tourist spot, even if it's your first time in Japan or you're not confident with navigation, you can enjoy a super relaxed and comfortable trip.

1. Skyliner Route, Timetable

The Skyliner departs from Narita Airport Terminals 1, 2, and 3,

from the basement level, whisking you away to Nippori Station (approx. 36 minutes),

and Keisei Ueno Station (approx. 41 minutes). These are the only two stops on its route.

It runs non-stop, making it incredibly fast!

From Nippori Station, you can easily transfer to the JR Yamanote Line,

and get to virtually anywhere in central Tokyo with ease!

✔️ Narita Airport → (Skyliner) → Nippori Station → JR Yamanote Line Transfer → Shinjuku, Shibuya (Total approx. 55~60 minutes)

It's also one of the most affordable and fastest ways to reach other major Tokyo areas like Roppongi, Tokyo Station, Asakusa, and Ginza Station.

The operating timetable varies slightly each day, depending on departures from Narita Airport.

2. Skyliner Booking Price Comparison

Even for the exact same ticket, prices can vary based on the platform, exchange rates, and any available coupons.

I highly recommend cross-checking all three platforms just before you make your payment to ensure you get the absolute best price!

a one-way ticket costs 2,580 yen per person!

3. How Do I Get to Shinjuku or Shibuya?

If you're heading to Shinjuku or Shibuya from Narita Airport,

consider these two options:

1) Skyliner + Subway

2) Narita Express (N'EX)

If your accommodation is in Shinjuku, Shibuya, or Tokyo Station, the N'EX (Narita Express) is indeed convenient as it takes you there directly without transfers.

The catch is the price.

Direct travel available to Shinjuku, Shibuya

However, it tends to be on the pricier side.

While the downside is that you need to transfer to the subway,

it's over ~$5 more affordable,

which is why I often choose this method myself.

But if you prefer a comfortable, direct journey to Shibuya or Shinjuku without any transfers, then booking the N'EX is the way to go.

The Narita Express timetable changes slightly every day,

so be sure to check it before you travel :)

4. My Ride Experience & What Could Be Better

I pre-booked using a QR code and exchanged it for a physical ticket at the Narita counter. The line was short, so ticketing was super quick!

There's a dedicated luggage space behind the seats for suitcases, so I could tuck away my large luggage.

It was so convenient not having the aisle cluttered!

Since it's reserved seating, there was no need to rush for a spot. After a long flight, I could just relax, sit back, and enjoy the views outside the window all the way to the city center. It made my first Tokyo experience so much less tiring!

Now, let's get real about what could be improved.

✔️ If you're heading to popular Tokyo tourist spots like Shinjuku, Shibuya, or Ginza, you'll definitely need to transfer at least once.

✔️ On days with weather delays, the counter exchange lines can get quite long. If you're arriving late, I highly recommend using the automatic ticket machines.

Q. Can I book a round-trip ticket for the Skyliner?

Yes, both one-way and round-trip options are available.

However, Trip.com only offers round-trip tickets as part of a Tokyo transportation pass package. For a standalone round-trip ticket, Klook or KKday will be more convenient.

Q. Where do I exchange my booked ticket?

You can exchange it by presenting your passport at the Skyliner counter or an automatic ticket machine at Narita Airport Terminals 1, 2, or 3.

The Skyliner counter is located across from the ticket office.

Q. How do I get from Narita Airport to Shinjuku?

If you take the Skyliner, you'll need to transfer once at Ueno Station. If you prefer to avoid transfers, you can book the Narita Express instead.
