This time, my friend and I
embarked on a trip to Tokyo,
and we chose accommodation near Tokyo Station.
I flew with Eastar Jet
and landed at Tokyo Narita Airport Terminal 3.
My friend, on the other hand,
landed at Terminal 1 with Korean Air.
Since the Narita Express (N'EX) is only available
at Terminals 1 and 2,
and not at Terminal 3,
I took a free shuttle bus
to Terminal 1.
Shuttle buses also run to Terminal 2,
and you can also take the N'EX
from Terminal 2.
Terminal 1 | Terminal 2 | Terminal 3 |
Limousine Bus 1,500 yen budget bus | Limousine Bus 1,500 yen budget bus | Limousine Bus available |
Narita Express (N'EX) | Narita Express (N'EX) | No Narita Express |
Skyliner | Skyliner | No Skyliner |
So, why did I choose N'EX?
My friend's flight was delayed by 40 minutes,
so our schedule was tight.
If the limousine bus gets stuck in traffic,
it takes even longer.
The Skyliner requires a transfer
at Nippori.
The N'EX goes directly to Tokyo Station,
and since it has reserved seating, there's no worry about standing or finding a spot.
The spacious seat pitch meant plenty of room for luggage,
and with free Wi-Fi,
it was the perfect choice for us.

Just a heads-up, if there's traffic,
the limousine bus might take a bit longer,
and the Skyliner requires
one transfer at Nippori.
A regular round-trip ticket to Tokyo Station costs 3,140 yen x 2 = 6,280 yen,
and 6,660 yen is the round-trip fare for Shinjuku/Shibuya.

Right after exiting Narita Airport Terminal 3,
at stop #3, you'll find the boarding area
for the free shuttle bus
to Terminal 1.

After waiting for about 1 minute, the shuttle bus arrived.
It takes about 3 minutes to reach Terminal 1,
and it also makes a stop at Terminal 2.

We've arrived at Terminal 1!

I had already paid for a Narita Express
round-trip ticket for one person on Klook for ~$38,
and now the price has gone down to around ~$37.
If your accommodation is near Tokyo Station,
the N'EX was definitely the most convenient option,
taking about 55 minutes with no transfers,
reserved seating, and even luggage storage.
Instead of buying on site,
if you purchase a round-trip ticket in advance,
based on the official JR East website,
the official price for foreigners for a N'EX Tokyo Round Trip Ticket is 5,200 yen, so...
From Tokyo Station, you save 1,080 yen,
and from Shinjuku/Shibuya, you save 1,460 yen!
