Muossi Grill: The Best Cozy Spot Near Holiday Club

We finally arrived in Saariselkä around 8:30 PM.

After quickly checking into the Holiday Club,

our immediate priority was finding some dinner.

We were far too exhausted to walk long distances,

so we decided to grab a quick reindeer burger

from the local grill right in front of the hotel,

take it back to our room, and pair it with some hot instant ramen.

The Holiday Club really has an unbeatable location.

Not only is Muossi Grill just steps away,

but there is also a lively pub nearby,

and the famous Husky & Co. tour office is right there too.

There is something magical about a burger joint in a winter wonderland.

The long operating hours are incredibly convenient.

If you get those late-night cravings after chasing the Northern Lights, this is your spot.

Inside, it feels like a cozy, rustic log cabin.

There are only a few tables available,

and because dining options in town are limited,

the place was absolutely packed with hungry travelers.

While there was one free table, we opted to

order our food to-go and enjoy it in our warm room.

They have a decent variety of fast food classics,

but we had our sights set on the local specialty: the reindeer burger.

If you look at the burger section, the third option down

is the classic Reindeer Burger.

The price is incredibly reasonable at just 9.50 EUR (approx. $10).

When you travel around expensive Finland,

you quickly realize what an absolute steal this is!

We paid by card and waited briefly for our order to be prepared.

The kitchen staff were working fast and efficiently.

There were two cooks keeping the orders moving.

They had ketchup and mustard on the tables,

perfect if you decide to order a side of fries.

They wrapped our burger tightly in foil to keep it piping hot,

and we hurried back to our hotel room.

To be completely honest with you about the reindeer burger:

it doesn't have an overwhelmingly exotic or strange taste.

The main patty itself isn't solid ground reindeer meat;

instead, the reindeer is served as thin, cured sausage-like slices.

Because of this, the gamey flavor is very mild.

Some higher-end restaurants serve thick, pure reindeer patties,

but that isn't what you get at this casual grill.

People who try pure reindeer patties often mention

that the distinct gamey aroma can be quite strong.

Since I am usually sensitive to strong gamey smells,

this milder, sliced style was actually perfect for me.

It allowed us to try local Lapland cuisine without any culinary shock!

(Which is also why we safely ordered just one to share...)

Pairing it with hot instant ramen in our warm room was pure bliss.
