An Honest Review of My Mui Ne Jeep Tour

When you think of Mui Ne, images of vast deserts immediately come to mind!
The White Sand Dunes and Red Sand Dunes are particularly famous here.
Among the various ways to explore these unique landscapes at your own pace,
a private jeep tour stood out as the most convenient option.
I booked this tour without even looking closely at the itinerary,
and honestly, I went in with low expectations. But it turned out to be so much fun
that my travel companions and I kept saying, 'We're so glad we did this!' throughout the tour.
However, having experienced it firsthand,
there were a few things I realized were 'must-haves'
and some aspects that were 'a bit disappointing.'
Here’s my honest, self-funded review of the Mui Ne Jeep Tour,
let’s dive in!
3 Things I Wish I Knew Before Booking My Mui Ne Jeep Tour
The Fairy Stream was hotter and longer than expected.

You walk upstream through ankle-deep water,
and with little shade, it gets surprisingly hot.
It's quite a workout!
Also, there was a fair bit of trash along the water's edge,
which honestly didn't make for a great first impression.
When visiting the Fairy Stream,
I highly recommend wearing aqua shoes or
secure waterproof sandals instead of going barefoot.
The White Sand Dunes ATV cost is not included.

The White Sand Dunes ATV ride is
an optional extra not included in the tour price.
When I visited, it cost 300,000 VND per person (approximately ~$12).
Walking across the desert sands to the viewpoint is
virtually impossible and incredibly tiring, plus your free time is limited.
So, I strongly recommend renting an ATV.
After the desert tour, you'll be covered in sand!

After visiting the White Sand Dunes,
I found sand everywhere—not just on my clothes and shoes,
but also in my hair and bag!
Mui Ne Jeep Tour Itinerary 1. Fairy Stream

Our first stop was the Mui Ne Fairy Stream.
This involves walking along a stream below a set of stairs,
and it takes approximately 40 minutes.

When we first descended,
I was honestly a bit taken aback by some litter and a faint smell.
Part of me just wanted to turn right back around.

However, after about a 15-minute walk upstream,
a unique landscape of red rocks and sand began to appear.
They call this the Mini Grand Canyon, and I could definitely see why.
The walk was a bit tiring, but the scenery was quite stunning, making me glad we came.
Fairy Stream, Visitor Tips
✔️ Avoid going barefoot due to rocks and occasional litter.
✔️ Aqua shoes or secure, heel-strapped sandals are recommended.
✔️ Your pants will likely get wet, so opt for shorts or a skirt.
✔️ Essentials: hat, sunscreen, water.
Mui Ne Jeep Tour 2. Fishing Village, Photo Spot

Our next stop was the Fishing Village viewpoint
for some photo opportunities.
You can skip this stop if you prefer, but the Fishing Village offers
a surprisingly exotic and picturesque view from a distance, so it's worth a quick visit.

On the way from the Fishing Village to the White Sand Dunes,
we stopped at several scenic photo spots,
snapping tons of pictures.
Our jeep driver truly transformed into a dedicated photographer,
even suggesting poses and making sure we got some fantastic shots!
Mui Ne Jeep Tour 3. White Sand Dunes (ATV)

We finally arrived at the undisputed highlight of the Mui Ne Jeep Tour:
the White Sand Dunes.

I knew the ATV ride wasn't included,
and at 300,000 VND per person (about ~$12), I initially hesitated.
However, the distance from the entrance to the main viewpoint
is significant, and you have to traverse several sand hills, so
the ATV is practically a must-do.

Once we rode the ATV to the top,
the expansive sand dunes and accompanying lake were
far more spectacular than I'd imagined. And the ATV ride itself was an absolute blast!
I wanted to go again, seriously! haha.
White Sand Dunes Visitor Tips
✔️ Keep your ATV ticket until you return.
✔️ To descend, simply hop on any available ATV at the top and show your ticket.
✔️ ATVs don't have seatbelts, so ride with caution.
✔️ There can be sand gusts or small insects, so a light long-sleeved top and sunglasses are a good idea.
Mui Ne Jeep Tour 4. Sunset at Red Sand Dunes

Our final stop was to watch the sunset at the Red Sand Dunes.
This dune is low enough to walk up, but I'm not the most athletic person, so the climb was a bit challenging.

The sunset wasn't incredibly dramatic, but
seeing everyone happily sitting on the sand dunes, waiting for the sun to dip below the horizon,
made me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
It was a truly wonderful way to conclude the tour.
Mui Ne Jeep Tour Overall Review

While satisfaction varied slightly between the stops, the Mui Ne Jeep Tour
was absolutely worth doing just for the stunning White Sand Dunes, the thrilling ATV ride,
and the experience of cruising along the coastal road in a jeep.
Most importantly, it was a private tour,
which made traveling with our group incredibly comfortable and enjoyable.
I highly recommend this tour for first-time visitors to Mui Ne, anyone looking to see the main attractions in a short amount of time,
and especially those who love capturing lots of travel photos. Remember:
Your driver doubles as your personal photographer!
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear and what kind of shoes should I prepare when visiting the Fairy Stream?
At the Fairy Stream, you will walk in ankle-deep water for about 40 minutes, so it is recommended to wear shorts or a skirt to prevent your clothes from getting wet. Also, since there might be rocks or debris in the water, you should wear aqua shoes or sandals with heel straps rather than going barefoot.
Is the ATV ride cost at the White Sand Dunes included in the jeep tour?
The ATV cost at the White Sand Dunes is an optional extra and is not included in the jeep tour price. You need to pay 300,000 VND per person on-site, and taking it is highly recommended as walking up the sand dunes is difficult.
What should I be careful about when riding an ATV at the White Sand Dunes?
ATVs do not have seatbelts, so please be mindful of your safety while riding. You must keep your ticket until the end, as you will need it to take an empty ATV back down. In addition, it is advisable to bring a thin long-sleeved shirt and sunglasses to protect yourself from blowing sand and flying insects.
Can I exclude the Fishing Village from the itinerary if I don't want to visit it?
Yes, you can skip the Fishing Village course if you do not wish to go. However, the exotic scenery viewed from a distance is quite beautiful, so we recommend stopping by even for just a short while.
