Worried about rain on your Mount Batur Jeep Tour in Bali? Here is my honest review of doing the sunrise tour on a cloudy, rainy day in 2026.

Anyone else constantly refreshing their weather app
after booking a trip to Bali?
I was exactly the same after booking my Mount Batur Jeep Tour.
Checking the Bali weather forecast days in advance
had me practically losing sleep!

Of course, rain was forecast for my entire trip... ^^
I seriously debated whether to cancel it,
especially since it wasn't cheap.
To start with the conclusion:
There was thunder and lightning, and while it did rain during the tour,
it was so cloudy that we couldn't actually see the sunrise.

And yet, I still walked away with some of the best photos of my life, making it a completely satisfying tour!
Right now is peak travel season in Bali,
so inquiries and bookings for the Mount Batur Jeep Tour
are absolutely skyrocketing.

Since I know many of you might be worrying about the weather just like I did,
I've put together an honest review based on my actual experience.

The package I booked on Klook was
the Mount Batur Sunrise Jeep Tour,
and I chose the option that includes a visit to Akasa Cafe.

This is probably the part
you are most curious about.
It was also my biggest worry after making the booking...
The truth is, you won't really know the weather until you actually get there.
Although there was thunder and lightning, it didn't rain heavily during the actual tour,
but we still couldn't see the sunrise because of the thick clouds.
If you're traveling to Bali during the rainy season,
it's best to prepare yourself mentally for this kind of weather.

But it wasn't all disappointment.
Our guide took so many amazing photos and videos for us,
so even without the sunrise, we definitely walked away with some lifetime shots!

If you're hesitating because of the weather,
I highly recommend checking out
the available dates that fit your itinerary first.
Check availability for your travel dates first
I started my journey from my accommodation in Ubud,
and my pickup time was around 2:30 AM to 3:00 AM.
Since this tour starts so early in the morning,
many people choose to do it on their very first day in Bali.
As a tip, airport pickup is also available,
so you can join the tour straight after landing!

After riding in the pickup vehicle,
we transferred to the jeep and headed up Batur's volcanic paths
to ascend the mountain.

I heard it gets super dusty and chilly up there,
so I brought a face mask and a lightweight down jacket.
Maybe because of the rain lol, there wasn't any dust,
and it didn't even feel that cold.
So masks, light down jackets, windbreakers, and heat packs...
can be packed depending on how easily you get cold.
Looking at other reviews,
some people even rented blankets because they were freezing!
To be completely honest, you might not get to see it.

We couldn't see the actual sunrise either due to the heavy cloud cover.
Because it's a volcanic region, the weather changes rapidly,
and it's quite common for clouds or rain
to block the view.
But there's a reason why I still have absolutely no regrets.

Since our guide kept taking photos and videos for us,
even though we didn't actually get to see the sunrise, we still got photos that made it look like we did,
and we definitely walked away with some absolute lifetime shots lol.

For me personally, the coolest scene
was seeing all the jeeps lined up in a row.
This is a view you really can't find anywhere else,
so I was incredibly glad I captured it on camera.
Some people book just the jeep tour on its own,
while others choose a package like I did
which includes the Akasa Cafe.
We booked the Mt. Batur Jeep Tour + Black Lava + Akasa Cafe
package, and looking back,
it was absolutely worth it.

✅ Black Lava
You can walk right across the dark lava fields
formed by past volcanic eruptions.

✅ Akasa Cafe
A cafe with stunning Kintamani views
and perfect spots for epic photos.
If your itinerary isn't too tight,
I highly recommend booking this combo package
rather than just the standalone jeep tour.

Since you're already heading out in the early morning hours,
it's much better to see as much as possible along the route!
And the price per person drops as your group size grows,
so booking together with friends or family
is a great way to save some cash.

Q. Mt. Batur Jeep Tour:
Is it okay to book even if it rains?
A. Yes, absolutely!
We also went during the rainy season. Even though we heard thunder,
it didn't actually rain during the tour.
However, you should keep in mind that cloud cover
might block the actual sunrise view.
Q. Does the pickup time vary by hotel?
A. Yes, pickup times depend on where you're staying.
For Ubud, it was around 2:30 AM to 3:00 AM.
It's best to check your exact time after completing your booking.
Q. Can I join straight from the airport?
A. Yes, it's totally possible!
Since it starts so early in the morning,
many travelers use this tour as their first day's activity in Bali.
Q. Is it suitable for kids?
A. Yes, it is.
I've seen reviews from travelers who went with elementary schoolers,
and most of them
had a really great and satisfying experience.
Just keep in mind the early morning start and the bumpy off-road sections,
so it's best to check if your child is up for it!

Even though I hesitated because of the weather,
I ended up loving every moment of it with zero regrets.
The view of the jeeps lined up and the epic shots we took
stayed with me far longer than any disappointment about missing the sunrise.
Right now is the absolute peak travel season for Bali,
and spots are filling up fast.

Pickups from accommodations in Ubud are between 2:30 AM and 3:00 AM. If you are joining the tour directly upon arrival at the airport, you can be picked up at 2:00 AM.
The tour takes about 6 hours and 30 minutes, and prices start from ~$120 for a group of two. The price per person decreases as the number of participants increases.
Since it is chilly and dusty in the early morning, we recommend bringing a mask and a lightweight puffer jacket. Depending on your personal needs, bringing a windbreaker or heating pads can also be helpful.
Black Lava is a field of black lava formed by volcanic eruptions where visitors can walk around. Akasa Cafe is a great spot to enjoy the view of the Kintamani area and take memorable photos.
