Bali Jeep Tour
Mount Batur Sunrise Experience

If a friend planning a Bali trip asked me
to recommend just one must-do activity,
I'd undoubtedly tell them about the Mount Batur Sunrise Tour.
Honestly, before going,
I was a bit skeptical.
Having to start so early in the morning
and knowing it would be quite physically demanding
made me wonder if I'd truly enjoy it.
But after experiencing it,
I realized it was absolutely worth every ounce of effort.
Even though it was a real landscape unfolding before my eyes,
the scenery was so unreal it felt like something out of a photograph.
My pictures and videos turned out so beautifully,
it almost looked like I'd Photoshopped them! 😄
I've organized everything I learned from my personal experience,
including what to wear, what to bring, the itinerary, and my review of the Korean-speaking guide.

1. Booking Your Bali Jeep Tour

There are so many companies offering Mount Batur jeep tours, so I really deliberated over which one to book.
Since I'm not super confident with English,
I only compared companies that offered Korean-speaking guides
and I specifically looked for tours that included Black Lava and Akasa Cafe.
Comparing photo reviews,
it seemed most companies were pretty good at taking pictures.

So, in the end,
I chose the company that was the most affordable at the time.
Company | Korean Guide | English Guide |
Klook (Where I Booked) | ~$99 | ~$86 |
Wayan | ~$122 | ~$92 |
Apong | ~$118 | ~$90 |
Klook was the most affordable when I booked, and it still is now.
And the prices have gotten even cheaper....^^ I booked for two people for ~$126. Haha!
Prices can change, so I recommend checking the current rates before booking :)

Brief Itinerary Summary

04:30 | Arrive at Mount Batur |
06:30 | Mount Batur Sunrise |
07:10 | Black Lava |
08:30 | Akasa Cafe |
10:30 | Arrive at Hotel |
2:30 AM.
I never imagined I'd be waking up at this hour even on vacation ^^...
Pickup times vary slightly depending on your hotel's location,
but they sent me the exact time via KakaoTalk the day before,
so I could prepare without any worries.
I got into the car still half-asleep,
and I was first surprised by how incredibly well the driver spoke Korean.
Since it was just my sister and I traveling in the early hours,
I was worried about communication issues, which is why I chose a Korean-speaking guide tour.
It turned out to be an excellent decision – no worries at all! Haha!

After about a two-hour drive,
we transferred to the jeep tour vehicle.
There was a separate jeep driver who didn't speak Korean, but
Having our Korean guide with us throughout,
we didn't experience any inconvenience at all.

And just like that, our Bali Jeep Tour kicked off!
"Are we *really* going to climb this steep slope?!"
we wondered, but our jeep tackled every challenging path without a moment's hesitation.
The ride quality, though... well, it was an adventure in itself! 😉
It definitely woke us up from our early morning slumber.

Once we reached the summit,
each driver found their designated spot,
and that's when the serious photoshoot began!
They kept snapping photos of us every time the sky's colors shifted,
to the point where we eventually got tired and had to ask them to stop! 😂
Before the sun made its appearance,
it was truly magical to lie back and gaze up at the sky, absolutely full of stars.
They handed us sandwiches included in the tour,
and honestly, I was surprised by how delicious they were, considering their humble appearance! 😄

Adding to the charm, the long line of jeeps stretched out before us,
making the entire scene feel incredibly romantic.
After about two hours
of snapping photos and soaking in the breathtaking scenery,
the sun finally made its grand ascent.

This was hands down the most memorable sunrise
I've ever witnessed.
As the sun painted the sky, I thought, 'This is exactly why I woke up at 2 AM!'
Every bit of the early start and the challenging schedule felt completely worth it.
Not only did they take a ton of amazing photos of us,
including fantastic portraits,
but they also captured cinematic-style videos!
If getting great photos is a priority for you, this tour will definitely exceed your expectations.

After soaking in every last ray of that incredible sunrise,
we made our way to the Black Lava fields.
It's not a spot where you'll linger for ages, but with Mount Batur as its stunning backdrop,
the scenery here is absolutely magnificent! I highly recommend making a stop.
Even seeing it with my own eyes,
I had to double-check if it was real or CGI!
When I posted it on my stories, everyone instantly wanted to know where it was.
Even if you're feeling a bit tired,
trust me, you absolutely have to snap some photos here!
Since you've already put in the effort waking up before dawn,
you won't regret putting your heart and soul into capturing the perfect shot here! 😉

After exploring the Black Lava fields,
our next stop was Akasa Cafe.
As one of the most famous cafes in the area,
it was bustling with people – so much so that they even had a parking attendant!
Our driver kindly waited for us outside,
while we took our time exploring the cafe.
To be honest, the pastries and drinks were pretty standard,
but the view alone was absolutely incredible!
It was the perfect final stop for our tour.
The prices for drinks and pastries were also quite reasonable given the view.
Two drinks and a croissant cost about ~$10.

However, since we arrived a bit late,
only the seats directly exposed to the sun were available,
so we couldn't stay too long.
Not that we had the energy to linger anyway, haha! 😄
Still, we savored the stunning views,
took a short break, and then headed back to our accommodation.
Starting so early in the morning was definitely tiring,
but even if I were to visit Bali again,
I'd probably book this tour without hesitation.

3. What to Wear, What to Bring, and Insider Tips from Your Korean Guide
✅ What should you wear?

Since Mount Batur is climbed at dawn,
it's quite cold, more than you'd expect.
I wore shorts and a hoodie, and as someone who gets chilly easily,
it was just right.
But remember, once the sun rises and you start descending, it heats up fast,
so I recommend wearing a short-sleeved top underneath.
Confession time: I actually wore a tube top under my hoodie,
hoping to get some great photos. But it was so incredibly cold
while waiting for the sunrise that I ended up never taking off my hoodie! 😂
Beautiful photos are wonderful,
but getting sick can ruin your whole trip,
so I highly recommend dressing warmly.
✅Definitely Recommend Renting a Blanket

You can rent blankets right there,
and we got ours for about ~$3.
Honestly, I was a bit worried about whether they'd be clean, but they smelled fresh and were spotless, so I was really pleased!
Since you'll be waiting for sunrise for quite a while,
if you tend to get cold, even just one blanket can make the wait so much more comfortable.
✅Bring Some Cash Along

At the viewpoint, there's a restroom and a spot selling coffee,
but both only accept cash.
We bought a warm cup of coffee, and maybe it was the crisp morning air,
but it tasted so much better than usual!
You won't need a lot of money,
but I definitely recommend having some small bills on hand.
✅So Glad We Chose a Korean-Speaking Guide

One of the things I was most satisfied with on this tour
was having a Korean-speaking guide.
Our guide was incredibly kind and looked after us from start to finish,
and they also shared fascinating stories about Balinese culture and travel
during our journey, making the travel time fly by without a hint of boredom.
Best of all, perhaps sensing our fatigue,
they thoughtfully allowed us to rest comfortably on the way back.
Those small, thoughtful gestures really made a difference.
They weren't the type to force conversation
or artificially hype up the atmosphere, which actually made the journey even more relaxing.
✅Prepare to Be Amazed by Your Photos!

Our jeep driver didn't speak Korean,
but when it came to photography, they were an absolute pro!
We communicated with hand gestures and body language,
but they knew exactly how to capture stunning shots, naturally guiding our poses,
and even enthusiastically taking videos for us.
Just looking at the quality of the photos,
you'll instantly understand why everyone shares their jeep tour pictures online.
Thanks to them, I managed to get some of my absolute favorite photos from Bali on this very day.
I have so many amazing photos that I'm still trying to pick my favorites! 😂

Since this tour starts bright and early before dawn,
I admit I had some reservations before committing.
But after experiencing it myself,
I instantly understood why it's consistently ranked as one of Bali's must-do tours.
With the right clothing preparations
and a fantastic guide, even first-timers can thoroughly enjoy this incredible tour.
If you're looking to create a truly unforgettable day in Bali,
the Mount Batur Sunrise Jeep Tour sounds like a choice you definitely won't regret! :)
