The Ultimate Guide to Booking Miuda Campground in Tsushima! From Filling Out the Application to Sending the FAX © Text & Photos / Oraiyeosa |
Hello, this is Oraiyeosa!
In my previous post,
I introduced the facilities and how to use Miuda Campground in Tsushima,
as well as essential tips for preparing for your camping trip,
including car rental reservations and grocery shopping.
(I'll leave the link below!)
There was one question I got more than any other:
"How do I make a reservation?"
Even I got pretty lost when I first tried.
I thought it would be as simple as choosing a date on a booking website,
just like with domestic campgrounds,
but most campgrounds in Tsushima still operate with FAX reservations.
The application form itself is written in both Japanese and Kanji,
and as someone who has never studied Japanese, my first thought was,
'How am I supposed to fill this out?'
That's what immediately crossed my mind.
Even after searching, I found very few articles that explained how to fill out the application form
step-by-step.
So, in this post,
based on my own reservation experience,
I'll guide you through everything, from how to fill out the Miuda Campground application form,
how to send a FAX,
to all the essential precautions you need to know when booking.
I'll explain everything simply, one step at a time.
If you just follow this guide, even if it's your first time booking,
you'll be able to prepare without any trouble.

01. Must-Knows Before Booking Miuda Campground!
First, before we dive into booking,
let's go over some absolutely essential information.
When Can You Book?
You can book Miuda Campground starting one month before your desired check-in date.
For example, if you plan to visit on August 20th,
you can start booking from July 20th.
During weekends and peak seasons,
spots often get snapped up right when bookings open,
so it's best to prepare well in advance once you've set your dates.
Check-in & Check-out Times
Check-in: 13:00 ~ 17:00
Check-out: 08:30 ~ 10:00
Make sure to remember these times!
Since there isn't a resident manager on-site,
check-ins are not possible after 5 PM.
If you think you might be running late,
it's absolutely crucial to contact them beforehand.
Booking Method
Miuda Campground cannot be booked
through regular reservation websites.
You need to download the application form from the Tsushima Busan Office,
fill it out, and then submit it via FAX.
I've got the application form file right here for you. You won't have to go through the hassle of downloading it from the Tsushima Busan Office. ^^

02. Get These Ready Before You Fill Out the Application!
Before you dive into the application,
having these things ready beforehand will make it a breeze.
Passport
English Name
Name in Kanji/Chinese Characters
Mobile Phone Number
Mobile FAX App
Desired Dates of Stay
Number of Guests
You must fill out the application form with both your English name and your name in Chinese characters.
Since the person reviewing the application is Japanese,
they won't be able to understand if you write it in Korean.
Be sure to write it in Chinese characters (Kanji) and English.
03. Let's Fill Out the Application Form Together, Step by Step!
Alright, let's take a look at the application form and fill it out, piece by piece.

① Applicant's Name
First, write down the applicant's name.
In the top box, write your name in English,
and in the bottom box, write your name in Chinese characters (Kanji).
It's crucial to write the name exactly as it appears on your passport.

② Japanese Language Proficiency
In the right-hand box, indicate your Japanese language proficiency.
○ : Japanese speaker
× : Cannot speak Japanese
If you can't speak Japanese like me, just mark '×'.

③ Phone Number and FAX Number
Write your mobile phone number,
and also include the FAX number where you wish to receive a reply.
If you don't have a FAX machine at home, I recommend using a mobile FAX app.
I'll explain why in more detail below.

④ Number of Guests
Enter the total number of guests.
You can differentiate between adults and children.
For example,
if there are 2 adults,
2 Adults / 0 Children
You would write it like this.

⑤ Period of Stay
This is often the most confusing part.
Enter your check-in and check-out dates,
and indicate the number of nights.
For example,
if you check in on August 15, 2026, at 1:30 PM
and check out on August 17, 2026,
then
you would enter 2 nights.

⑥ Purpose of Visit
Most often, the purpose of your visit
will be Tourism (観光)
which you can check.

⑦ Select Facilities to Use
Miuda Campground offers various types of accommodation.
Permanent Tents
Uses pre-pitched tents.
Although it says 6 people, it can feel a bit cramped for 6.
These are cabin-style tents without a vestibule.
Tent Sites
You rent just the space to pitch your tent,
Unlike the auto campground, you cannot park your car next to it.
You must bring your own tent.
Bungalows
You can think of these as individual rooms, each equipped with powerful air conditioning.
Honestly, in summer, I recommend bungalows over camping.
Auto Campground
The auto campground is in a different location
than the facilities mentioned above.
This is where I did my usual camping, as you can see in the review.
This is the spot.
The spots aren't assigned; you can choose
any available space you prefer.
If you're backpacking or using your own tent,
you can choose ② Tent Site (tent space rental)
or ④ Auto Campground space rental.

⑧ Enter Quantity and Number of Nights
Once you've selected your facility,
you need to enter the quantity and number of nights.
For example,
if you're using 2 tent sites
for 2 nights,
you would enter 2 × 2 nights
like this.

⑨ Select Rental Items
If you need them, you can request these items along with your booking.
Cooking utensil set
BBQ set
Sleeping bag
I usually bring my own gear so I don't typically request these,
but if bringing your own equipment is a hassle,
feel free to rent and use theirs.
Please note that the cooking utensils are hard-anodized aluminum pots,
not the stainless steel type commonly used.
Just keep that in mind.

⑩ Trash Bags
Many people overlook this part.
You must purchase trash bags.
The price is 100 JPY,
and the basic purchase is 1 set of 2 bags per tent.
You can just check '1'.
One bag each for general waste and recycling should be sufficient,
so don't buy too many.
⑪ Special Requests
You can use the last box to write down any special requests you might have.
If you're arriving late or have any messages, please write them here.
However, please remember that check-in is not possible
after staff working hours.

04. How do I send a FAX?
Don't have a fax machine?
No worries!
Just download a mobile FAX app on your smartphone
and you're good to go!
I use a mobile FAX app too when I send my application forms.
Just save the application as a PDF or take a photo of it,
then send it through the app, and that's it!
It's much easier than you'd expect,
so even if it's your first time, you'll pick it up in no time.
The reason I swear by this app is
that it allows for scheduled sending.
I always schedule my faxes to send at 00:01
and then hit the hay!
Since it's first-come, first-served, using this method
has given me a 100% success rate.
Reservation Application Submission Date | 1 month before usage date |
Application Method | Fax |
Recipient | 001-81-9820-86-4678 |
05. How Do I Confirm My Reservation?
After you send your fax, you'll usually get a reply within 2-3 days.
The reply will indicate:
□ Reservation Confirmed
or
□ Reservation Unavailable
You'll see one of these options.
If your reservation is confirmed, make sure to save or print this reply!
They'll definitely check it along with your passport at check-in,
so don't forget it.
And if you don't receive a reply,
it means your fax likely failed to send,
so be sure to double-check!

07. Top Tips for Your Stay
I'll also share some personal tips I picked up during my own stay!
✔ Fill out your application form in advance.
To increase your chances of getting your desired dates, send your fax right on the reservation start day.
✔ Stick to the check-in times.
There isn't a permanent caretaker on site,
so check-in after 5 PM can be tricky.
✔ Always use a fire pit for bonfires.
If wind speeds of 5m/s or more are forecast,
bonfires might be prohibited,
so it's a good idea to check the weather too.
✔ Use designated trash bags and strictly follow recycling rules.
Japanese campgrounds really value these points,
so it's best to follow the rules carefully.
08. My Final Thoughts
At first, the Japanese application form and fax reservation process seemed a bit daunting,
but once I got into it, it wasn't as complex as I imagined.
Turns out, the most crucial thing wasn't filling out the form itself, but rather timing your reservation perfectly.
Especially for Fridays, Saturdays, and the bustling summer peak season,
spots fill up incredibly fast.
That's why it's super important to prepare your application form beforehand and submit it right on the reservation opening day.
In the next installment, I'll be diving into:
My top recommendations for the best spots at Miuda Campground,
tips for selecting an ocean view site,
my real camping experience, and a list of absolute must-pack essentials.
