If you've been exploring **Tokyo** and enjoying a few late-night drinks,
chances are you're probably in or around Shinjuku's vibrant Kabukicho district.
And if those late-night adventures left you needing a fix, there's nothing quite like a steaming bowl of something comforting
to get you back on track.
Today, we're diving into a fantastic late-night spot in **Shinjuku Kabukicho** – perfect for those post-party cravings:
the legendary **Tokyo Tonkotsu Ramen joint, Menya Hiro**!

Menya Hiro (Menya Hiro, 麺屋ひろ) |
Opening Hours: 6:00 PM - 3:00 PM (the following day) Closed: Never! Location: A quick 5-minute walk from Shinjuku Station or Seibu Shinjuku Station |
📍 **Menya Hiro** is incredibly easy to get to, located just
a quick **5-minute walk from Shinjuku Station or Seibu Shinjuku Station, heading towards Kabukicho**.
Its prime location makes it a highly accessible ramen spot.
Given Kabukicho's nature, buzzing with even more energy at night than during the day,
Menya Hiro is a classic late-night ramen joint, open continuously
**from 6 PM until 3 PM the following day**,
making it the ultimate cure for those late-night cravings or post-party recovery!
As you'll notice from the sign at the shop's entrance,
it proudly advertises **'Nōkō Tonkotsu' (rich pork bone broth), making it a specialist in pork bone-based ramen**.
With toppings like spinach and nori (seaweed),
you'll quickly recognize it as a classic Iekei-style ramen.

The restaurant is located on the **first basement floor**,
so just look for the sign outside and head downstairs.
There's even a simple menu displayed outside,
so you can browse the delicious ramen options before you even step inside!

The entrance immediately transports you to an authentic Japanese setting,
and the sign stating they close once the soup runs out
gives you a real sense of confidence in the deliciousness of their ramen!
While there was no wait when I visited,
if a queue does form, they ask you to line up neatly
along one side of the staircase.

Step inside, and you'll be greeted by the rich, distinctive aroma of Tonkotsu broth – a true ramen lover's paradise!
The interior is long and narrow, with a classic counter-style seating arrangement
almost entirely counter seats, save for a single table.
I personally love this traditional Japanese ramen shop vibe!

Water is self-service and can be found at the counter.
Interestingly, smoking is permitted here,
though only e-cigarettes are allowed, not traditional ones.

Each seat is equipped with condiments like vinegar and chili oil to customize your ramen,
and after you've savored every last drop,
simply place your empty bowl and dishes on the counter!

Menya Hiro's menu is based on their signature Hiro Ramen,
with various toppings added to create different dishes.
The basic Hiro Ramen costs 900 yen, and prices vary depending on the toppings,
ranging from 1,000 to 1,350 yen.
You can also choose and add toppings as you like.

And ordering is super simple!
On the paper menu near your seat,
you select your desired ramen, toppings, drinks, and so on,
then choose your noodle type, doneness, flavor strength, and amount of fat.
For my Moyashi Ramen, I chose thin noodles,
"katame" (firm) for doneness, rich flavor,
and less fat.
Next, I'll tell you all about the flavor of the ramen I ordered.

When the ramen arrived, it was placed on the counter for me.
It was topped with chashu, bean sprouts, green onions, nori (seaweed), and spinach.
Although the signboard said Tonkotsu Ramen,
it actually looked like a classic Iekei ramen.

Each of the vegetable toppings had a wonderful texture,
and the chashu was incredibly tender and delicious.
The noodles were similar in thickness to Korean ramyeon,
but instead of breaking easily,
they had a delightful chewiness.

Personally, the most satisfying part was the broth.
Even though it was Tonkotsu-based, the broth wasn't heavy at all;
it had a lovely lightness and a rich umami flavor.
It tasted as if pork bones and chicken bones were simmered together,
with a refreshing quality reminiscent of Samgyetang (Korean ginseng chicken soup).
I personally found it incredibly delicious.
However, it is quite salty,
so it might be a hit or miss for some.

After finishing your meal, simply place your empty bowls on the counter as shown in the pictures,
and you're good to go!

Today, I introduced you to Menya Hiro in Shinjuku Kabukicho, one of the truly delicious spots I discovered
during my Tokyo trip.
Despite its rich Tonkotsu base, the soup
also had a delightful, light umami reminiscent of chicken,
making it a truly delicious ramen that I slurped up every last drop of.
If you've been out drinking late at night around Shinjuku,
this would be the perfect spot for a satisfying hangover cure.
Just remember that some people might find it quite salty,
so keep that in mind before you visit!
