When you travel to Tsushima, Value Mart is an absolute must-visit for shopping!
Today, I'm sharing a post about
Matsumoto Kiyoshi, which is right next door.
I'll cover everything in order: from how to get there from Hitakatsu Port,
store information, reviews of the items I actually bought,
and finally, a price and product comparison with Value Mart.

How to Get There from Hitakatsu Port
I traveled by rental car, but I know many of you might be looking to get there by bus, bike, or taxi from Hitakatsu Port,
so I've put together a quick guide for each option.
①.Bus
From Hitakatsu Port to Value Mart Oura Store,
there are 5 regular buses and 2 Waniura loop buses running.
The regular bus takes 15 minutes, while the loop bus takes 31 minutes, so if you're only going to Value Mart, the regular bus is more convenient.
The fare is 310 JPY one-way, and since the intervals between buses are long,
day-trippers should plan their shopping time around the return bus schedule.
② Electric Bicycle
Many people traveling in Tsushima also use bicycle rentals.
I didn't use an electric bicycle, so I can't recommend specific shops or pricing, but I did snap a pic of a coupon I found at Hitakatsu Port.
However, there's a tunnel section on the way to Value Mart, so you'll need to be careful if you're going by bike.
📌 If you plan to do a lot of shopping, I recommend taking the bus or a rental car over an electric bicycle.
③ Taxi
There's also Hikari Taxi, which is widely used in Tsushima.
You can add them as a friend on KakaoTalk and book via voice call, and the taxi fare is around 1,600 JPY one-way.
If you have your return time set, it's a good idea to pre-book your taxi back as well.
Shopping Haul Review
After grocery shopping at Value Mart,
I headed straight next door to Matsumoto Kiyoshi.
I'll share a comparison of the size and prices of both stores separately at the end of the post.
While Ebisu toothbrushes are famous,
I personally love Sensodyne toothbrushes.
I've tried it, and it fits perfectly, so I always stock up on these toothbrushes.
Highly recommend for those who prefer smaller brush heads!
TMI: I'm still too scared to get my wisdom teeth out,
but the small brush head cleans even my wisdom teeth really well.
Every time I visit Japan, I've always been curious about that subtle fabric softener scent,
and it turns out my Japanese friend uses it!
I asked her to send me a photo of the fabric softener, and I bought it this time.
I bought the large size.
If you've ever wondered about that unique Japanese fabric softener scent, definitely give this a try!
This is a powder detergent called Kaostic Zero.
The one in the photo is specifically for indoor drying,
making it an absolute must-have for laundry, especially when it's humid like now!
Being a powder, it's super lightweight, making it perfect for stocking up and bringing home!
Utamaro Laundry Soap and Shimitore
I actually tried Shimitore when it was super trendy,
but I honestly didn't feel it was exceptionally good at stain removal.
Utamaro, however, works wonders on stubborn sock and shirt stains,
making it fantastic for pre-treating!
Just a heads-up, it does contain a fluorescent whitening agent,
so I'd recommend sticking to white clothes for this one.
Rohto Vita 40 is an item I always make sure to grab whenever I'm in Japan.
It's fantastic for those moments when your eyes feel dry or fatigued.
Just a quick note: it's not meant to be used while wearing contact lenses,
so if you're a contact lens wearer, make sure to double-check this before you buy!
Many popular health supplements in Korea, like Yunker and Hepalyse QPCore,
are readily available here.
I already had a good supply from my previous trips, so I decided to pass on them this time.
Given the large number of Korean visitors, the pain relief patches are also prominently displayed with popular Korean favorites.
Personally, I highly recommend Loxonin over Salonpas or Coin Pas!
This is one of those items I absolutely make sure to bring back every time I visit Japan.
I really should get around to reviewing the products I've recently purchased,
but I figure I need to use them for at least half a year to give a proper assessment, so it keeps getting postponed.

I'm prone to swelling, and when I'm in Japan, with all the delicious drinks and
frequent soy-sauce based meals, I notice I swell up even more.
That's why I always make sure to stock up on Mukumi by the box!
Just a heads-up: the boxed Mukumi wasn't available at Ohura Value Mart,
but I found it at Matsumoto Kiyoshi.
Konjac jelly is one of those items you'll find virtually everywhere,
and it's fantastic for controlling cravings when you're on a diet!
While it didn't have as wide a variety of snacks as Value Mart,
it still stocked all the well-known ones, and even a great selection of Nissin Cup Noodles!
Right next to Matsumoto Kiyoshi, there's also a 100-yen shop, so I highly recommend checking both out!
Value Mart vs. Matsumoto Kiyoshi
They're right next to each other, so
many of you might want to visit both,
but if you're on a day trip, your shopping time could be quite tight!
It took me about
1 hour and 30 minutes to browse both!
Ohura Value Mart had a wider variety,
and for the same products, the prices
at Matsumoto Kiyoshi were slightly cheaper.
Both locations offer tax-free shopping, but
at Matsumoto Kiyoshi, you can combine tax exemption with discount coupons.
What's more, duty-free closes at Value Mart at 5 PM,
so if you're shopping late in the afternoon,
Matsumoto Kiyoshi will be more convenient.
So, I recommend buying at Matsumoto Kiyoshi first,
and then heading to Value Mart only for the items you couldn't find.
As for Matsumoto Kiyoshi coupons,
you get 3% off for purchases over 10,000 JPY, 5% off for over 30,000 JPY,
and 7% off for over 50,000 JPY, so make sure to grab one before you pay!
You can travel from Hitakatsu Port to Matsumoto Kiyoshi Oura Value Store by bus, electric bicycle, or taxi. A one-way bus fare is ~$2, taking 15 minutes by regular bus or 31 minutes by loop line. A one-way taxi fare is around ~$10, and you can book it via KakaoTalk Voicetalk.
Matsumoto Kiyoshi Oura Value Store operates daily from 9 AM to 10 PM. It's recommended to consider these hours when planning your shopping trip.
Oura Value Mart offers a wider variety of products, but Matsumoto Kiyoshi generally has slightly lower prices for the same items. Matsumoto Kiyoshi allows for both tax exemption and discount coupons to be applied, whereas Value Mart's tax exemption service closes at 5 PM.
Discount coupons can be applied at Matsumoto Kiyoshi Oura Value Store. A 3% discount applies to purchases of ~$62 or more, a 5% discount for purchases of ~$187 or more, and a 7% discount for purchases of ~$311 or more.
