Matsumoto Kiyoshi Izuhara Review: Tsushima Shopping
Discover tax-free shopping on Tsushima Island! Here is our honest review of Matsumoto Kiyoshi Izuhara Store 1, including discount tips and top buys.

When it comes to shopping in Tsushima,
one place you absolutely can't miss is Matsumoto Kiyoshi.
Since it's an island, prices tend to be a bit higher than on the mainland.
But if you spend over 5,500 yen, you can get a tax refund,
and if you spend over 10,000 yen, you can also use discount coupons!
So, if you make good use of coupons and tax-free shopping,
you can actually score some great deals.
There are two branches in Izuhara (Store 1 and Store 2).
Since Store 1 is larger, I decided to check it out first.
Matsumoto Kiyoshi Izuhara Store 1
Open daily: 09:00 - 23:00
Free parking available
It's close to the Kaneishi Castle Ruins and the Monument to the Marriage of Princess Deokhye,
and right next to Tiara Mall and MaxValu,
making it super convenient to plan a route combining sightseeing and shopping.
Store 2 is just a 2-minute walk away, but since Store 1
is slightly bigger, I headed there first.
Store 1 had pretty much everything I was looking for,
so I ended up doing almost all of my shopping here.
The Store

Just grab a cart or a basket at the entrance and enjoy your shopping!
Many people rent cars to get around Tsushima,
and there is parking available right in front of the entrance.

Stepping inside, it felt much more spacious than Store 2.
They had a wide variety of items, including cosmetics, sunscreen, body sheets, hair products, medicines,
supplements, and even snacks.
There were quite a few overlapping products with the MaxValu next door,
but since Matsumoto Kiyoshi lets you combine tax-free shopping with discount coupons,
this is definitely the cheaper option if you plan on spending over 10,000 yen.
Purchase Amount | Coupon Discount |
10,000 yen or more | 3% |
30,000 yen or more | 5% |
50,000 yen or more | 7% |
Beauty Picks

This is a must-buy every time I travel to Japan in the summer:
Bioré Sarasara Body Sheets.
The travel-sized packs are perfect for tossing in your bag.
If you can't stand that sticky summer feeling, you absolutely need these! 😄

I spotted a "cool type" version that I hadn't seen before, so I grabbed that too.
If you're planning a trip to Japan this summer, I highly recommend
the Bioré Body Sheets! 👍

Nivea UV Sunscreen is another item I restock on
every single time I visit Japan.
It leaves absolutely no sticky residue or white cast on your body,
so even my boyfriend, who hates sunscreen, actually uses this one.
Of course, I still have to nag him to apply it every day...

The hair care section was also quite well-stocked.
I don't use any of these myself,
so I just took photos for your reference regarding prices and variety.
They had most of the famous brands, including
Tsubaki, Yolu, and Botanist.

I also picked up the Nivea Acne Body Wash.
It's a bit embarrassing, but I get summer breakouts on my back, so I use an acne-specific
body wash. Even though this one is formulated for acne,
it's great because it doesn't leave my skin feeling stripped or dry.
It lathers up beautifully with just a tiny amount, so a bottle lasts a long time.
I went with the refill pack!

I snapped a quick photo of the Fino Hair Treatment to keep track of the price,
and it turned out to be way more expensive than on mainland Japan!
Since it’s around ~$14 for a pack of two on the official Korean online mall, there’s really no need to lug the standard version all the way back from Tsushima.
On the other hand, the large-capacity refill pack isn't available in Korea,
and the price difference compared to mainland Japan isn’t that huge. So, if it's already a staple in your hair care routine,
picking it up here in Tsushima seems like a solid choice.

There was also a wide variety of sheet masks to browse.
My personal favorite, the Derma Laser Super Exosome 100 (the purple one),
was unfortunately out of stock when I visited.

They did have the Suisai Powder Wash in stock,
but it was actually much cheaper on online duty-free shops.
I usually switch between the blue version for summer and the pink one for winter,
and always pack them in my travel bag.
They’re so compact and absolutely perfect for travel!
Medicines & Health Products

They also carry Ohta's Isan and Cabagin, which are
major must-buy items for travelers visiting Japanese drugstores.
Since these are staples on almost every Japan shopping haul list,
I'm sure a lot of people search for them here in Tsushima as well.

And now, my absolute favorite section: supplements!
Because honestly, traveling in your 30s without vitamins is a tough sport.
Japanese food can be a bit on the salty side, and since I bloat easily,
I always rely on the ultimate combo of Mukumi (for swelling) + Ukon (for fatigue relief)
every single time I travel here.
For Mukumi, the pink packaging is the one designed for managing bloating,
so make sure to keep this color in mind if you plan to buy some!

I looked around for the new Suntory beer release, but this specific branch didn't have it.
On the bright side, I was still able to stock up on my beloved Kinmugi.

They also had Konjac jelly in stock.
Just a quick heads-up: the cup-type Konjac jellies actually cannot be brought back into Korea,
but because there was a big sign saying "KOREA BEST SELLER," I saw many elderly travelers
tossing them into their baskets. Please double-check the import regulations before you buy!
Also, at Matsumoto Kiyoshi,
you can use discount coupons if your total purchase exceeds 10,000 yen.
If you're planning a big haul like me,
check out the coupon link below :)

Just click the link, scroll down to find
the coupon that matches your purchase amount,
and present both the coupon screen and your passport to the cashier
to enjoy both tax-free shopping and the extra discount!
While drugstores in Tsushima are slightly more expensive than those on mainland Japan,
if you combine the tax-free benefits with discount coupons,
it's still totally worth stocking up on your favorite daily essentials! :)
Wishing you all a fantastic and savvy shopping spree in Tsushima!
