Just one look at their signature dish, piled high with a vibrant chili paste, and you'll understand why it's been a beloved local favorite for so long.

As you step into the bustling food alley near Dongchon Amusement Park, a striking red sign for Mannasikdang immediately catches your eye. From the outside, you can already tell this place has that authentic, old-school charm that hints at incredible flavors within.

Step inside, and you're greeted by a cozy, relaxed atmosphere, reminiscent of visiting a countryside grandmother's home.

They offer both standard table seating and traditional floor seating, so you can choose what's most comfortable. Plus, there are private rooms available that can accommodate up to 70 people, making it an excellent choice for larger gatherings, family celebrations, or even corporate dinners.

While their signature Pollock Jjim is a must-try, Mannasikdang also offers a variety of other delicious dishes, including different types of "jeon" (Korean pancakes). It's the perfect spot to enjoy a meal with a few drinks!

Our Dining Experience

Once we placed our order, a delightful array of "banchan" (side dishes) was promptly set before us. We had kimchi, spicy radish salad (musaengchae), refreshing white kimchi, sweet and spicy dried radish strips (mumallaengi), and a cooling bean sprout soup! These flavorful accompaniments are crucial for balancing out the potent spiciness of the main dish.

And then, the star of the show arrived: the Pollock Jjim! Unlike the typical red-sauce pollock dishes you might find, this one featured a special yellowish sauce generously topped with a mountain of vivid green chili paste. It was a truly unique sight!

After carefully flaking off a piece of the tender fish, I took a bite. As someone who's sensitive to spice, I found it quite fiery, but in the best way possible! It wasn't an artificial heat; instead, it was a clean, sharp, and invigorating spice from the fresh chilies that kept me reaching for more.

The fish itself was incredibly flaky and moist. Paired with a spoonful of hot, white rice, it was an absolute "rice thief" – meaning it's so good you can't help but eat more and more rice! That satisfying "hoo-haa" feeling of delicious spice just makes you want to keep going.

Feeling a little adventurous, we also ordered a "Jeongguji-jeon" (Chive Pancake)! It was freshly prepared in the kitchen the moment we ordered it.

This generously sized, warm pancake was the perfect accompaniment to our meal, and absolutely fantastic with a glass of soju!

Don't worry if you can't finish it all; they offer neat takeout packaging so you can enjoy the leftovers later! Since Mannasikdang opens at 10:30 AM, it's an ideal spot to grab a delicious lunch or even an early afternoon drink after a leisurely stroll through Dongchon Amusement Park.
